So if they do not update the Verizon CDMA phone, the users still WILL NOT be able to talk on the phone & surf/check email, etc?

If the iPhone was a fashion item maybe, but Apple can wow plenty with massively upgraded guts in an iPhone 4 case. I'm impressed by phones that make my day easier. That new voice control looks pretty amazing...and impressive. We'll see.

Are you suggesting that iOS5 is massively upgraded guts?

This looks just as disappointing as the Macbook Air updates, Apple's new strategy - unleash new OS with minor hardware updates and claim it's something epic.

I keep seeing this argument and it does not stack up. The iPhone 3GS is still the second best selling device on the market (second only to the iPhone 4) and that's now. Not in 2009. Now. With all the super smashing great Android phones around. The 3GS has a design that is the same as the 3G which came out in 2008!

We're not talking here about the past. We're talking about the present. The difference in the market is, therefore, a moot point.

That's because Apple keeps it simple and has 1 iPhone each year unlike the dozens or hundreds (?) of Android phones over the past few years.

If you look at marketshare of android vs iOS its a different story.

It took 16 months for iOS and iCloud while they were also finishing up Lion. The hardware was never the issue.

I also think Apple wanted to reposition the iPhone launch period from summer to fall since the iPod is fading and they need a "hot" holiday item. I won't be too surprised if the iPad launch moves from early spring to late spring.

Almost two years? Give me peace, "almost two years".the iPhone 4 only turned 12 months old three months and four days ago.

Quoted for truth. So many damn whiners.

The 4S is an enormous upgrade on my 3GS and apple puts in incremental changes that really only make upgrading phones worth it every 2 years. Every year is an improvement, but Apple is shooting for a two year cycle.

I imagine most people bitching have an iphone 4. Let me let you in on a little secret: you are not the target demographic. I have a 3GS and I am thrilled. Its basically an ipad tablet's power...in a phone. Coming from a quickly aging 3GS thats all I need. Adding IOS5 just makes it that much sweeter.

The 4 was also a gorgeous phone and easily my favorite looking device in the last 5 years. I wanted to get a 4 simply because of how good it looked. Now I will have a chance. Those with an i4 can wait until the next one comes out, which will be a guaranteed chassis revision.

Also, If the only thing you care about is cosmetic changes and a smaller number, then you should really reconsider your priorities in life.

I'm with you. But let's see what happens. This new upgrade may look the same (we think) but the software surrounding it has never changed more than it's about to.

No one is talking about iCloud, iOS 5 and Assistant. If these things are as cool as they promise to be then the way we use our iOS devices is going to change massively.

So let the crybabies go and get their big screen Galaxy phones. They may have the bigger screens but I'm the one looking at the bigger picture.

Nobody jump the gun yet! Remember, this is Apple. If it is just the 4S, then I am sure there is a reason behind it. Quite possibly it could be they are waiting on parts that are not readily available.

Oh and.....

Anyone want to bet that Jobs comes on with "just one more thing"...;)? I mean after all, that is his own catchphrase!

hearing that the 5 has NFC now from a network source due to their mobile wallet testing

.I am really shocked and disappointed......

Now what is going to happen to our 100,000 shares of stock?

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

If you own 100,000 shares of Apples, I don't think you really need to worry about its financial impact on you--- especially given it's gone up more than 33% this year. If you're worried it'll be worthless soon though, feel free to give it to me.

assuming this is true...i think i will just buy an iphone 4 and wait till next year for the 6 (so i dont have to re-sign a contract)

Prediction: Apple releases the iPhone 4S with big speed and graphics improvements and one or two "headline" features (probably the Assistant and something else).

MR posters and "analysts" proclaim it to be the end of Apple, the death of the iPhone, etc.

Yet it goes on to sell like hot cakes and Apple rakes in the cash hand over fist.

Repeat next year.

No, and I'm not really sure how you arrived at that conclusion. Guts are hardware based -- A5 chip, more RAM, better camera, etc., etc. But we also know the voice command feature requires an A5.

That will be the iPod nano

At best he'll deliver one more thing via Facetime with Cpok >_>
