Funny, how in 3 years of owning my macbook I saw that screen only 2 times. Wonder what's the PC ratio.

Since 2004 I've had that once and that was when trying to install OSX from my iMacs restore DVD. It's not a perfect OS but I've had far more problems in Windows, but even then I've not had many.

Seamless. My wife's PC is falling apart at the seams. I already had it warranty repaired due to a failed processor. The whole time, I thought HP was a dependable brand. Now, I need to send it in again because the fan is just falling apart and making tons of noise...I told her: "Oh well I've already made you a user account on my Mac. It's easy to anticipate these kinds of problems"

I'll have her switched eventually :)

Where are mosx, pr5owner and BMWFanboy? They usually jump in with some hilarious anti-Apple propaganda on the first page. Come on boys, shake a leg, you're letting the side down!

How misinformed can you get. You obviously haven't spent much time around here.

Tell us what this "best" software is, I feel like a laugh.

don't be so niave. Windows may pale in comparison to OS X but that does not mean there are some great exclusive products for it.

Soundforge for one. In my opinion there is no Mac alternative that can compete to the same level of speed, efficiency, depth and results. Cakewalk Sonar is also good (although I do prefer Logic). There are also some really nice VSTs that you simply cannot get for Mac OS X.

Also, tell me when the Mac version of Fallout 3 or Crysis or an AAA title is available on Mac. Sure there are a few, but OS X simply hasn't got the same choice of games.

I find it lame that after all this time apple still harps in viruses when it's a fact, all retail stores back of house computers have virus protection. If this could be made into the general public, msft would have a field day. Not sure why it isn't. All they have to do is ask any apple retail employee.

It's also a fact that there are no Mac viruses. Apples use of anti-virus software in their stores doesn't change that, so I can't see MSFT having any kind of "field day."

Personally I use Macs because I don't like Windows - my PC is stable enough for what I do, I just don't like it.

Bootcamp or virtualization makes it possible :D

Which means Windows is falling victim to viruses and malware, not OSX.

I don't doubt this. However, I'm not being naive when I question this guy on his blanket statement that the "best" software is only available on Windows.

There are some great AUs on the Mac that you can't get on the PC. But Logic is a good enough reason alone for music makers to leave Windows behind.

Games? Sorry, not my department. If it were, I'd get a console.

They didn't (and could not) respond to the central theme of all the Microsoft ads and that was PRICE. :)

I own 2 Mac Pros, an iMac and a Macbook Pro. I love Apple products but it's laughable to suggest they don't crash and are not prone to viruses or malware in general. For the price I paid for all these machines, I only wish those ads were true.

I've been using Macs since 1984. I (currently) own a MacBook Air, 2 MacBooks, a MacBook Pro, and a Mac Pro. I've never installed antivirus software on any of them and I've never had a single malware or virus attack. And crashes are close to non-existent. So I wonder what it is you run on your systems that makes them crash and susceptible to viruses and malware? Seriously, I'd be interested in hearing your story in more detail.

Cheers,

Steve Kochan

Coincidence or are you THIS Steve Kochan?

Let the fighting begin :D

as long as apple us in the renting business, we will never see flash or anything that allows streaming movies tv as this takes away from app store and apple tv which doesn't sell anyway. Time fir jobs to step down and get with the times. All movie web pages use flash, myspace, flash, MLB football, flash, fox sports flash, hulu flash, most audio high end entertainment all flash and apple is supposed to be the leader in entertainment creatives? What a joke. Things like simple looking fir bands in iPhone to find music for tv/films impossible since no flash and sling box crippled. You can only imagine the apple netbook unless if course, knowing apple, the tablet will be the media hub, flash and all, os x, but with a subscription fee. You watch. It's the Apple way. Either cripple or outrageous fees, subscription fees.

Terrible.

Don't blame Apple for flash - blame Adobe for having a bloated software package that's crippling the net.

Yeah because Macs never cra

Most Mac users have never seen this screen. And never will.

In fact, it's such a rare occurrence that it isn't even recognizable by most users (the blue screen for Windoze, however, is famous.)

It all comes down to reputation.

The exception proves the rule here.

Well actually PCs don't get such a beautifully rendered Kernel Panic graphic either. Blue screens are so much more infuriating... in their simplistic "I dunno where I come from, why don't you check what E001D-FFGHH-FRQUWWRRZHH means?"-ishness...

Many security experts don't even run anti-virus or anti-spyware on their machines, because they aren't surfing bad sites or clicking MySpace email invites. Ordinary Windows users, sure - and limit it to AV programs and Windows Defender only. The security suite packages are so bloated it's not even funny. Mac users ... no - not yet.

Please read what I wrote before commenting. :) I said MOST ORDINARY COMPUTER USERS should be using security products as a line of defense to protect them from their lacking knowledge or experience.

Security experts are not ordinary computer users. They know what they are doing. They can probably configure a firewalled router. They probably block javascript by default on a lot of sites. They probably don't surf random webpages using an unpatched version of IE. So yes these people can usually get by without Norton or Kaspersky. :)

I agree a lot of these programs are bloated and do slow the computer down. But that's by design as they are sitting there in the background monitoring what you do looking for stupid things computer users might do, scanning open files, internet activity and emails as they arrive.

I think the only time I got that screen on my current MBP (since 10/2006) was when I was running...
- Windows XP (Parallels)
- Windows 98 (VirtualBox)
- C64 (Power64)
- N64 (SixtyForce)
- and a few others

One or more of the OSs running in virtualization/emulation caused an issue.

Macbook Wifi = Headache.

£300 netbook Wifi = perfect.

Safari crashed on my Macbook SEVERAL times a day.

On my Win XP64 desktop - Safari has never crashed.

This is false advertising.

Kind of a blanket statement. I've had an MB for 1 1/2 years, and never had an issue with WiFi, or Safari. Yet on two different Laptops [Lenovo and DELL] the WiFi would flake out, and not work.

So based on my experience, it's not false advertising...
