Apple, please make all your phone and all of your products USB-C or wireless charging compatible. This includes your keyboards, mice, headphones, etc. Make USB-C the last cable needed.
The last iPads Pro that had lightning supported USB 3.0 transfer speeds. The limitation isn't in the connector. The limitation is that Apple, for whatever reason, refuses to use a USB 3.0 chip in the iPhone itself.I am under the impression there aren’t enough pins to handle the bandwidth; It’s a limitation of the plug.
Otherwise Apple woulda done this years ago, right? I can’t imagine anyone at apple wants USB 2.0 on their flagship phones.
Not in my opinion. Have to provide choices to the customers.Isn't there a certain level of hypocrisy re: wireless charging (of any kind, not just MagSafe).
True, but more convenient.
- It's far less efficient than wired charging.
Up to the individual to decide on the usage and let them take the risk.
- Creates more heat, especially at higher charging speeds, and that has a negative impact on battery longevity.
Not proven, but solid opinion. If we are worried about lithium, Tesla is stripping the planet.
- Faster battery degradation = bigger negative impact on the planet as we'll need to mine more materials to manufacture replacements or dispose of spent batteries safely.
But not the wire from the brick to the phone.
- You still have to plug in the "wireless" charger so, on some level, there is still a wire.
Yes, they (apple) touts their own environmental record, but they can’t force consumers to be environmentally friendly or green. For a company that touts its environmental record at every turn (and often does so arrogantly)
Customers want choice, even if the choice is between Buying a wireless charger or new mfi cable.wouldn't it behoove them to only ship charging solutions that promote charging efficiency and minimal planetary impact?
Mr. Schillers remark has nothing to do with you are conflating two thoughts. 1) is apple green and 2) is the customer green?Perhaps Mr. Schiller can't make a "courage" related connection to shareholder return on this front. Then again, ever since that 2016 keynote he's come off as a jacka$$.
Indeed. See my post #98.Two words: Wired Carplay. The vast majority of vehicles out there today don't have wireless support (and the dongles don't work worth a damn). Either apple would have to create a wireless dongle that does (and omg I'd buy one in a cold minute), or they'll continue to have to offer devices with ports.
Plus, I have zero interest trying to sync 500GB of content over wifi.
USB-C solves both problems.
I use an aftermarket adapter to convert my wired CarPlay into wireless CarPlay! EASY! And it actually works in my 2017 Honda Civic Ex. I love it!!!!!I just hope they switch to USB-C.. they can't get rid of the port completely, too many devices rely upon some kind of physical port, namely millions of cars that have Apple CarPlay. They would piss off a lot of people if they killed it off completely unless they can magically turn all those cars into wireless CarPlay.
It feels no different than holding an iPhone with a smart battery case on itYes, I know but if your holding the iPhone for 30 minutes to a hour, having a disk on the back is just not comfortable
I suppose battery life is now at the point where it doesn’t need to be charging all the time so it won’t matter regardless of this change

Internet recovery has existed on the Mac for years.how exactly are you going to establish a wireless connection to restore your iPhone when it gets stuck in recovery mode? A lot more issues that could be fixed by users will now require a visit to a service center.
all I can say is that I don't want to buy another iPhone till there is a significant uptick in transfer speed. I could care less whether USB-C or lightning. It took me 6 hours to download all the photos on my wife's phone this weekend (120 gb) because she was upgrading and (sadly), was given a phone with half the storage of her current phone... I didn't realize till we'd already fully opened, applied the screen protector, and everything. Sigh... all worked out, but, good grief, that was slow.Apple just updated the Magic Trackpad and it still has a Lightning port. If their computer peripherals aren't migrating away from Lightning yet, the iPhone certainly won't anytime soon.
Apple is concerned about lower standards of water resistance for USB-C compared to Lightning
Disagree. There are already third party wired to wireless CarPlay. Easy for Apple to first party a better one. Or bless official alternatives. It's such a fastly improved experience, I think people would take it in stride, in spite of the usual anti-change complainers.I just hope they switch to USB-C.. they can't get rid of the port completely, too many devices rely upon some kind of physical port, namely millions of cars that have Apple CarPlay. OK, I'm also sticking with my iPhone 12 for the considerable future.Apple is sticking with Lightning on iPhone for the considerable future.
