Apple, have it turned OFF by default please. There's millions of ordinary non-tech-nerds who will be confused as to why they are suddenly losing iPhone space so quickly.
I can't imagine very many opportunities to see the full resolution for most people for quite some time.

No one really cares how its being achieved. The fact is result is the same.
Microsoft: I thing I already saw this thing before...
Wrong! The 'result' of going from New York to Los Angeles is the same via car, train or plane. The mode of transportation really matters, and you're saying it doesn't?
I really care HOW something is done. I guess that's why I'm an Apple fan. Apple is the master of taking something technical and making it easier.
For example, Living Images are NOT the same in ease-of-use. In your camera, same concept, but when you move it to a Windows PC, you need to rename the file to .mp4 to see the video portion. Who's going to do this? Very few people.
You shouldn't treat it like a video - it's not meant to be! It SHOULD work the same as on the camera, but it doesn't. This is why Apple's technologies catch on, and are more fully implemented than competitors.
Me!! why would Apple forgo the extra 100$ of profit. As long as people are buying iPhone in record numbers, I support their decision. Just think of it as a price hike of 100$Anybody still dumb enough to defend 16gb base storage?
One of the novel new features coming in the iPhone 6s is the new Live Photos feature which captures an additional 3 seconds of video surrounding photos on the new iPhones. The new feature is on by default and allows you to take photos as usual. Apple describes it:Live Photos will be viewable on existing iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watch devices with the latest operating systems. Apple is also opening up the API for developers to support the new format in their own apps. Facebook has already committed to supporting Live Photos in their iOS app later this year.
While few details about the new image format has been released, TechCrunch's Matthew Panzarino reveals in a video that the new format will take up approximate twice the space of a normal 12MP photo. Panzarino describes that even the current iPhones start taking photos the moment the Camera app is launched, and that traditionally, only the last photo the moment the shutter is pressed is stored. The new system will simply take the surrounding photos and compress them into this new format.
Meanwhile, @DanMatte reveals that the new Live Photos format is a bundle of images based on the JPEG file format, allowing them to be easily sent as a still image to devices that don't support Live Photo. Apple's developer documents indicate that you can share the image as a regular JPEG if desired.
More details should come out as the new iPhones begin shipping on September 25th.

My Canon G16 does this
Honestly, Live photos + 4K + 16GB - How could it possibly go wrong![]()
Anybody still dumb enough to defend 16gb base storage?
Seems like no one is happy having 128GB upgrade at 64GB price... or 64GB upgrade at 32GB price.
If you think Apple is making money at 16GB... Have you wonder how much Apple lost giving double space on upgrader?
I mean that few people will have displays capable of showing 12 megapixel images any time soon, that's all. And especially not on Facebook (where the resolution *will* be greatly reduced of course). What do you mean by that?
In terms of developers integrating with the API? (Facebook have already said it will be functional before the end of the year)
Even better idea since my last iPhone was the 4s. With the way plans work in Canada, I would pay an extra 2000$ over 2 year for the privilege of having an iPhone. I pay 35$ a month an got a LG g3 for free versus 500$ upfront and 85$ a month if I went for an iPhone. No phone is worth 2000$ to me. I could have paid over 1000$ upfront and got the 35$ plan but I can't justify paying that when I can get a free phone.Don't forget apple care price increase.
What do you think video is comprised of rocket scientist! So just hi res short videos then?
so that's why they stuck with 16gb
