Seems that 40% rumour was true. Those tariffs are a pure rip-off and only an idiot would pay £35 a month for 200 mins and 200 texts. You can get better deals on Pay and Go for frig's sake.

Apple, you are idiots. Why would anyone get this over a 16Gb iPod touch?

How the hell can a Q&A session open and close, and not one person asked about MMS, IChat, Copy and Paste... Ugh. What a disappointment.

Wow that was a real disapointment, looks like I won't be buying one of those then. I've got no problem with paying for the iPhone at that price but the tariff deals from O2 simply aren't value for money.

Q: Have you thought about opening the iPhone to 3rd parties?

Steve: "Yes, we've already done that with Web 2.0. We're looking at more intimate apps. But people hold their phones to a higher standard than their PC. The more open you are, the less predictable." Again, same ol' same ol'.

More and more proof that Steve does not like the Touch, didn't intend to make one and did not want to be arm-twisted into it.

"Q: Were you aware that the iPod touch was coming out when you were negotiating the iPhone deal?

Matthew: "One of the great things about working with Apple is they are always moving forward.""

You can almost feel the sarcasm in that sentence! In other words, no, O2 didn't know about the Touch. I doubt Apple did either.

"The iPod touch is training wheels for the iPhone"

Ouch!

10:42 - Q: Unlimited data packages: will those go to other contracts as well?

Matthew: "On 1st October we'll be rolling those out for all out customers."
Steve: "it's the future."

So basically you have to pay £35 a month for a contract with 200 mins/200 texts when you could get one of the cheaper o2 deals with another phone and still have the unlimited data!? Seems a bit ridiculous and just shows how much of a rip-off the contract is!

Thats the truth. Maybe they'll get their fingers out and ship my touch now.

No, I just looked on the Vodafone site, it's £180 + £35 per month.

Thats for new customers from Vodafone direct, i've just finished a 18 month contract with Vodafone with the 8800 (bought from 3rd party retailer online + discounts etc). The phone was crap and knocked out on ebay for £280.

As a side note i've seen the N95 free + £30/£35 recently online (thats not including cashback / free gifts).

Ouch!

Its just to appease O2. I see an iTouch rampup in January for MWSF.

Compared to T-Mobile, those are very, very poor monthly rates.

I am currently with O2 but will be moving to T-Mobile next month if they can offer me a better deal. I was hoping the iPhone might shake O2 up a bit to offer good unlimited data tariffs, but if today is anything to go by they will be a complete waste of time.

With investing in EDGE, training up 1,000 people to deal with iPhone queries and agreeing to Apple's financial terms (whatever they are), I think O2 has made a very expensive mistake.

The O2 plans totally suck. As I see it I have two choices.

1) Contract T-Mobile. They do 170 minutes and unlimited data for £22.50.
2) PAYG Orange. You can get unlimited data on PAYG for £1 for a day. So whenever I'm travelling for a weekend I'll just pay the couple of pound to have data on those occasions.

What definitely is not an option is the O2 plans. Who would pay £35 for 200 minutes? That ends up being more for a contract than you'd pay for the same minutes with PAYG.

Hmm. Shouldn't be too hard to unlock the phone and stick any O2 SIM in there.

Hold on there buddy!! Current iPhones run firmware 1.0.2 which has been hacked to death. It is rumored that the new firmware (which will probably come pre-installed on new iPhones) will patch the bug used to unlock current iPhones.

how do you know the £35 is for 200 mins / 200 texts?

I thought the iPhone, combined with new O2 tariffs, would be what finally made mobile internet accessible to the mass.

Instead, all this does is give high end (business) mobile users a better rate and a swankier phone than their last one.

Will O2 be opening these tariffs to other handsets?
Because i'd be prepared to take one for my Xda i currently have.

And that firmware will be cracked too.

Apple have either gotten a bit silly recently or I've gotten a bit more picky - but no, I shall not be cancelling my contract, moving my number to O2, and buying an iPhone.

No 3G is a definite deal-breaker.

Dos anyone else find it strange that they're talking about "the future" whilst now heavily investing in EDGE - an outdated technology? It would've made sense to go with Orange who already have an EDGE network (that no-one uses...)

Well the way it looks, I'm not buying one.

Unless I can unlock it (and use it on a cheaper tariff)

Does anyone know whether it will work on a non iphone O2 sim?
