I'm not a high end user. I use it for photoshop and Lightroom. I love the screen and it's big enough for me to watch stuff on it and be happy. If I was to build this in a PC, It would be too expensive I would bet. How much is a 4k screen at 27"?

Maybe I don't need a k4 screen, but I like this all around. Ive been using a 21 inch iMac at work for 7 years and it's the only computer left not replaced. All other PCs crapped out.

I'm not a computer person that tinkers. Give me something nice and I'm good for a while.

A 4K display runs around $400. 5K is pretty much exclusive to Apple though.

Change it to year-to-year total revenue, and Mac will smoke all of them out of the window. The profit from one MacBook Pro 15' Touch Bar version is the same as at least 5 to 6 "typical" PC notebooks.

HP already sells 5 or 6 machines to every one Apple sells, so it's a wash.

Not all of HP's sales are $300 Walmart specials either, they sell a TON of workstations that are more powerful than anything Apple offers, at any price.

Apple makes a gazillion dollars in profit every year but can't update their computers on a regular basis? Obviously this is what it is choosing to do, not what it is limited from doing.

Apple has already lost me for desktops - after years of using G4 and G5 machines, I've been happily using a Windows 10 machine for photo/video editing. Apple's last chance with me is the rumored low cost laptop, presumably an Air update to replace my aging MacBook Pro, but one can easily start to feel ridiculous waiting years for it to show up.

Apple’s Mac business is still bigger than most companies in the s&p500.

HP hardware has razor thin majors and it’s mostly junk.

I know, I’ve owned the stock. Most recently, HPQ had 7% operating margin and Apple had 24%.

HPQ also makes like $3B in annual profit while Apple makes $55B, so I know which company I’d rather own and the strategy that’s working better.

If only....

Apple to re-introduce the throwback Unibody MacBook Pro's!! Both the 15" and the 17" models with both USB-A & USB-C Thunderbolt ports!

It will have MagSafe3 which is a special USB-C plug interconnection which has a magnetic quick release like the original MagSafe on the back two USB-C ports (L&R) of the four USB-C ports with the addition of two USB-A ports one on each side. The system will also offer a SDXC slot as well as Gigabit Ethernet port.

The systems will support Super 4K Liquid Retina displays that have almost no bezel's! Allowing a smaller system size! 13.5" 15" & 14.75" 17" Wide, 9" Deep and .80" High for both. The iSight camera will be replaced with the new FaceID system used in the new Xs iPhones as well as a second rear facing wide angle camera! It will also have the TouchID power button which allows a dual ID support solution if desired.

The real kicker is the new Intel i9 or custom order Xenon chips will be used and the system will offer user upgradable RAM modules and the system will have a three drive configuration: The boot drive will be a soldered-in secure enclave 128 or 256 GB flash drive controlled by the T2 chip and have two NVMe/PCIe x4 interfaces which can hold either: 256, 512 GB, 1, 2 & 4 TB flash drives either discreetly or in a RAID configuration.

A newer version of the older Unibody silent blister keyboard will be offered in this system. It will offer a fully sealed keyboard to reduce liquid or grit damage. And the keyboard is designed to be easily replaced within less than 30 minutes if it needs to be replaced. A smaller Touch Pad will be used to remove the need for palm rejection and offer more space for the new 83 15" /95 17" watt extended battery which also introduces the new LiOn battery technology which removes the risk of fire from battery puncture or swelling. This tech also allows denser power storage with less weight. Depending on your CPU and drive options your runtime will be no less than 10 hours for the 15" and 15 hrs for the 17" model (wireless web or iTunes playback). The battery will likewise be replaceable in less than 30 minutes at an authorized service center.

The weight will be reduced to an amazing 3.4 pounds for the 15" and 4.5 pounds for the 17" and yet have the needed space for an ultra-cooler subsystem to allow the CPU to run at sustained turbo mode without overheating the system for 10 minutes before being throttled down.

Can't speak to their margins but my HP ZBook Studio is one nice laptop and preferable to Apple's current laptop lineup.

But then they'd make a gazillioin - $50.00 and that would hurt the stock price :D

Okay, take your pick: Dell, HP, Lenovo - they all sell 5 or 6 machines to Apple's one.

The stuff you or I can buy from HP at Best Buy or Walmart is mostly junk that's very true, but their enterprise hardware has a fairly blameless record. Nowadays that's a separate company though I believe.

Same as the Android argument. It runs Windows....many like Mac OS, Apple support, and Apple hardware.

Only Apple makes any good money on hardware. All those companies are like Android competing for scraps and have razor thin margins. Computers are a commodity...except for Apple machines.

This, this so much. People are like "Just buy an HP or Lenovo or whatever..." NO, freaking no, I don't want to run Windows. I don't even want to run Linux on the desktop. I want to run MacOS, and I really want Apple to make a laptop I actually want to buy again.

I literally bought a Dell XPS when the TouchBar MacBooks came out. I do software development in Visual Studio, and use the F keys 10 times a minute, and I use Windows 99.9% of the time at work. VMware on a Mac had serious performance issues.

A lot of people would upgrade their machines, if there was an update. People are waiting for the modular Mac Pro, a Mac mini that is from this decade, an affordable MacBook Air that has updated parts compared to the 2012 version, including the CPU and the screen.

Nobody wants that annoying AF touchbar. It's literally a reason NOT to buy a Mac.

Also, how long can it take to design a new Mac Pro? It's been almost six years.
Or or or... guess what? You can disable it and make it exactly like the outdated and bulky MBP’s!

Keep waiting, Apple is moving in a different direction. A lot of people were nonplussed when they removed the floppy and ADB ports in the iMac G3, and through the rest of the line over the next year or so. Technology moves forward and Apple usually is the first to remove legacy features.

HP servers are a separate company. HP Consumer and Enterprise workstations, desktop and laptops are from the same company and while it move some 300% more units than Apple's Mac unit does on a quarterly basis, they generate only 30% more revenue than Apple does selling Macs. So most of what HP sells is that "junk" you find in Best Buy and Walmart.

Look at the numbers from everyone else. Everybody is down for the most part. It's not a lack of updates. It's a lack of consumer interest in desktop and laptop computers and it's been a trend for several years now. Mobile is the future and it's what most are buying into.

You may be right, and this may be why Apple is mum of what's coming for the Mac. To let several systems become _very_ outdated suggests either neglect or a complete focus of something entirely new.

Let's hope it's something new and radically awesome AND affordable! Because the silence from Apple is deafening.

You can change the touchbar to the default F-keys! *shocker*

You cannot operate the TouchBar F-Keys by feel, they have no tactile response and there is nothing to feel except glass. Ever try typing on your iPhone while looking away from it? Same thing. Traditional keys can be used without looking, the Touch Bar cannot. That is a huge deal to many people, you know "Pros" who buy Pro machines - like the MacBook Pro.

My 2013 machine still going strong. I loaded it up at the time.
Sad thing is, everytime I look at what's available, just no compelling reasons to spend any money.

I suspect this may be why Apple is taking their time. My 2013 Air still runs like a champ!

But I want two Mac minis for my retail stores, and I refuse to pay full price for the 2014 Mac mini. It's not even clear if a new mini is on the way. And it's frustrating.
