I would really like an Apple watch 2 but I can see the motivation to hold a 'super September' event and release the redesigned IPhone and Watch together.

A part of me also thinks this is a slightly tactical time to try and damped Samsung's momentum, I noticed more leaks after the positive S7 feedback.

Waiting 18 months after the Watch was unveiled, and offering nothing new but some watch bands seems like a poor decision. If someone hasn't bought an Watch by now, they are unlikely to just because it now comes with a new bright yellow band from Apple's Spring collection.

Releasing both a new phone and a new watch is going to tax customers pocketbooks for the holidays, especially if there are any other new products like TVs, and iPads as there were last year. Then again, maybe Apple will start offering 0% financing with Apple Care + on all their products and customers will be able to justify spending all that money at once broken up into monthly payments.

Or, consumers could just NOT buy stuff they can't afford.

So another iPad also dubbed as the iPad pro and also 9.7"?

Customer One: "Well I have the iPad Air 2, what do you have?"

Customer Two: "The iPad Pro."

Customer One: "But it looks exactly the same as mine, what's the difference?"

Customer Two: "You can purchase a $100 Apple Pen to use with it, and it costs $200 more than yours."

Now, now. It's what's inside that counts, remember!:(
Besides, no difference between this and the laptop/desktop situation that's been going on forever. Same body for several years running, but updated inners.

I'll be coming from an ipad Air 1 and can't wait. The Air 1 really has been an average ipad in my books. The ipad 1, 2, 4 and ipad Air 2 have been the standout machines. the Air 1 and 3 have been the underwhelming machines.
I'm just unhappy to hear that the announcement date has been pushed back. I want to pass down my Air 1 asap and finally get rid of the stuttering animations on it.

Am I the only one that sees "SE" could easily have been a confused "5E"? I think it would be odd to have a 5SE or just an SE, but we have had a 5, 5S and 5C, so I'm thinking perhaps the phone will actually be called a 5E. I guess we'll have to wait another 3+ weeks to find out. I love my 6 for the record, but I have two family members one with a 5 and one with a 5S that say they will absolutely not go to a larger phone. Hopefully this new phone will work for their needs as those two phones are obviously getting very old.
There was a sketchy rumour saying it would be called the 5e: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/01/11/iphone-5e-a8-1gb-ram-apple-pay-volte/

I quite like SE, even though not sure why it's relevant. I suppose iPhone mini would be more appropriate.

No Apple Watch update for 18 months isn't surprising, the technology obviously hasn't been ready for any substantial upgrade

Re/code reports that the much anticipated Apple Media event will actually fall during the week of March 21st, not on March 15th, as originally rumored. Curiously, the delayed date was first floated by Korean site Underkg earlier this week. The date change had been largely ignored at the time due to the unproven source of the rumor, but it appears that Re/code has confirmed the new date according to "several sources".

Besides the 4-inch iPhone SE, Apple is also expected to introduce a new 9.7" iPad (possibly dubbed as the iPad Pro), and new Apple Watch bands.

Update: According to BuzzFeed's John Paczkowski, Apple's media event will take place on Monday, March 21, likely at Apple's Town Hall in Cupertino. The event will be held one day before Apple is scheduled to stand off against the FBI in court.

Stand your ground Apple.

With the 2015 15 2.8/16/1tb rmbp and the iPad Pro i bought last year I'm good for the next oh say....... 6-8 apple media events

This makes sense. The Apple Watch is an extension of the iPhone so it seems logical to announce the Apple Watch 2 along side iPhone 7.

Except instead of one $650 upgrade now it's going to be one $650 and one $350-$1200 at the same time. Add to that new iPads, Apple TVs and Macs, it's a lot to dump out during the holiday season all at once.

We have some VERY exciting products to announce today!

iPhone SE: It's almost as good as the 6S, but smaller, with an older design!

iPad 3: It's almost as good as iPad Pro!

One Last Thing!

More Watch Bands! Also, we've updated the software so you can (buy and) wear multiple watches that do the same exact thing!

Can you imagine how disappointing this event will be if there is no Macs?
That is very possible...and I would hate to see that.

Rumor has it they're going to tease the car that they're considering producing in 2025. So don't be discouraged by that utterly boring list.

Not sure why you think we'd ever know the official date from anyone besides Apple. Hence why the website is called MacRUMORS, not MacOFFICIALNEWS. Don't be so uptight :)

That's exactly my point. I'm not the one asking when the next iPad comes out.

I'm stuck with a broken ankle that's left me unable to walk for the next 3 months... Was looking forward to the iPad release... Now I get to wait there too

Personally the rumoured device is exactly what I want, but I also agree none of this really requires some big press event. Every spec and feature already exists in their product lineup - and are they really so self absorbed as to need some ceremony to show off a watch band?

It's incredible how apple is doing everything wrong with the iPad. they lost it after the iPad 2.
What are they doing wrong? They're currently selling the only tablet that actually sells in quantity, not to mention their mind and market share are dominant, compared to the Surface, Nexus 9, and Pixel C.

New watch bands to be Show Cased. Are Apple this desperate? Fine - event for iPad and iPhone... But an overly expensive watch band?!

New Skylake based MacBook Pros please!
You see it as desperation, but they're trying to pitch a technology device as a fashion statement. Look no further than them bringing Angela Ahrendts onboard from Burberry.

I think what will happen eventually, if not immediately, is this. There will be only two lines: iPad and iPad Pro. The current mini 4 will drop that designation off and simply be an iPad (7.9"). The current Air 2 will drop that designation also, and be simply an iPad (9.7"). The iPad Pro line will consist of the current 12.9" model, and the new 9.7" model to be introduced. The mini 2 and Air will cease to be sold. Maybe a "price surprise" for the better for consumers to kick start sales again, and that's about it. Making them all Wi-Fi plus cellular at WiFi-only prices would be one way to give us all a break, instead of the shaft....er, instead of the Apple tax! We'll know soon I guess.

I'm looking forward to this event, maybe I can finally retire my iPhone 5 after 3 years. Came fairly close to switching to one of the new Nexus phones, although I dreaded the thought of something both unfamiliar, and too unwieldy for one-handed use. Hope it's worth my wait.

"Or to put it another way, it’s not going to be on March 15, the time frame that other outlets previously reported, according to several sources. It is not clear if the event was moved or if this was the same timing as Apple had always planned."

... or it could be the sources all jumped on the bandwagon without any concrete evidence. Usually when things like this backfire mishap happen, my first reaction is always "lack of evidence"

Sorry, that's just me. I'll be up anyway .... (...and probably a whole lot of coke to keep me pumped. :D )

March 21st is my 20th wedding anniversary. To bad I will be on vacation and can't watch it live.

I was wondering what was going to come up interesting in the near future. Last 18 months I've been up for the iphone 6, then retina imac, rMB, watch, couple of ATVs and ipad pro. Can't see anything of interest to me coming up any time soon though... certainly nothing we know of in the next year
