"UI elements being removed"... you can take that one quite literally. They just made it white with black text, otherwise known as ugly.

Perhaps this was pointed out earlier, but it looks like Move to iOS can move your message history to new iPhone. Copy my Data can't do this, so apps are not exactly clones.

Google's apps on iOS have material design! Which works horribly on iOS and they don't take advantage of any of the iOS features! It's so annoying!!
I hate the the new YouTube app. I guess I'm not the only one as that's one of the few Google apps not highly rated in th App Store.

Android users: "Let's give this app one star just because we hate Apple and iOS and not because we have a legitimate reason to give it one star!"

This just shows you the kind of users that exist on the Android platform. This should be one of those software items that can't be rated without without actually using the software, and probably could have been done by making the item cost 99 cents.

I see a lot of Apple bias and elitism falling through here, regardless of whether is righteous or not.

Just b/c its an Android app doesnt mean apple should half ass it. In fact it should be one of Apple's best apps as to give prospective customers an example of what Apple is all about.

Apple likely doesn't want to keep a developer team on hand just for the one or two products they might release on Android. Just like Microsoft or Blackberry. You're not going to see too many apps from them because they have their own hardware/software platforms, and it's more cost effective to outsource this kind of thing to a third party who has experience with the platform. Apple just needs to publish the API's to iCloud/iTunes/Apple Music to the third party and endorse the third party, or rebrand whatever they come up with.

Yeah, and if Google made an app for moving to iOS (and Apple allowed it in) there wouldn't be a lot of 1 star ratings because it's about moving to Android.

I think it would be a very interesting comparison.

My observation of Fandroids is that they love to rip Apple & iOS to shreds.
To the extent that many of them believe google invented the modern smart phone interface.
I love pointing them at this article

quoting:
"Chris DeSalvo’s reaction to the iPhone was immediate and visceral. “As a consumer I was blown away. I wanted one immediately. But as a Google engineer, I thought ‘We’re going to have to start over.’”"

Just read the negative responses from the geeks over at Slashdot on this topic.

On the other hand Apple Fan's don't seem to have the same burning need to diss Android.
Why?

So I think if you were to have a "Move to Android" app on iTunes you'd probably find it largely ignored in comparison to this one on Google Play.

That is wholly unfair.
There is a certain % of jerks on the planet... and consequently, in any subgroup.
Moreover, android is on certain phones that are really affordable, something Apple/iOS doesn't offer.

So by default, Apple has a larger % of people with higher income and probably higher education, because they simply ruled out people with less income...
That doesn't mean android isn't a nice platform for people with higher income... I'll make a guess and say the % of people with high income and education is the same on both platforms, but android also gets all the teenagers, lower income and technically less savvy population, and thus, 30% more market share.

".....Move to iOS is Apple's first Android app, and the app has gained numerous negative reviews in the Google Play Store. Of its 15,230 reviews, 12,184 are one-star reviews. Criticisms in the negative reviews include complaints about iOS, Apple, and that the app uses Apple's design philosophy rather than Google's Material Design....."

Who woulda thought.....

Absolutely pathetic, does not exactly shine a good light on users. I think it is quite clear that most of the users who voted have never had an intention to go with Apple. I am actually feeling quite embarrassed for them.

Wow. Statistically, its likely someone in the Middle East will be trying to quit both Android and Islamic State on the same day. Rough times.:(

I'am curious hoe many stars the app had before it changed or sold to Apple. Does anyone known?

No. Google Apps in the App Store have good reviews. And the Apple haters/Androd fanboys FAR outnumber Apple fanboys. This is why tech blogs have learned that click bait articles about Apple generate the most clicks.
Unless I'm mistaken, there is no Google app designed to help you port your stuff over to Android.

Because Android users secretly wish they had an iPhone, hence the whole "we hate Apple" sort of attitude. Unfortunately they can't afford an iPhone and they turn that love into hate so they subconsciously still have a relationship with the brand that everyone else around them is talking about. Can't scientifically explain why, maybe my psychologist wife can...

Edit: grammar

Well, yep confirmed, most of the 1star ratings are fanboy rants and not because of the functionality of the app.lol

Apple likely doesn't want to keep a developer team on hand just for the one or two products they might release on Android. Just like Microsoft or Blackberry.

Microsoft do have their own iOS developer team, one of the reasons they are porting a lot of their software to iOS and it has to be said they are doing a good job of it too.

These are the rantings of fools and there is little to really debate here. Move to iOS has an average now of 1 stars when we know it's just a re-brand of a 4 star app.

The complains about UI are absurd for two reasons. 1) It's the last Android app they'll ever use before moving to iOS so why should it need to look like Material Design? and 2) None of Google's apps on iOS follow the Apple design guidelines.

Using this app review feature as a platform to moan about other aspects of Apple or iOS is akin to giving Skyfall a 1 star review despite not having seen it because you thought The Amazing Spiderman was a bit pants.

There are also apps on iOS which offer some similar (albeit limited) functionality to do just this and match up apps etc. Googles own website even has a guide on how to switch.

Most people using this app won't care about the reviews because they will have already made the decision to buy the iPhone and will use it anyway and it'll work. I suppose this could have been mitigated by charging for the app and perhaps offering some form of iTunes credit note for 50p or something in return but why bother? These fandroids are only giving even more promo time to this app because of their spamming and people that want to switch will use it regardless.

Anyone know if the iOS side of this is baked directly into iOS, or is it an app you download from the app store.
Reason for asking is that if it's an app you download, then it's the first I know of that can directly manipulate your messages from a sandbox.

I downloaded from the Google Play store in order to ease my mover from my S5 till my 6s when that comes in the mail next week. It asks permission to access your messages, which is how they can directly access and copy any messages you may have on your phone.

I gave it 4 stars just because I still have to go hardline to transfer my downloaded music, if it's doing everything else via wifi it should be able to transfer that as well.
