Well, yep confirmed, most of the 1star ratings are fanboy rants and not because of the functionality of the app.lol

One of these geniuses actually wrote "-ve stars" then hashtagged a review. I fear for the future of the world.

Android users: "Let's give this app one star just because we hate Apple and iOS and not because we have a legitimate reason to give it one star!"

Exactly... and whinge that Apple licensed if from somebody (as if nobody does that ever).

Pretty lame that you'd give an app 1 star when you haven't even used it.

Anyone know if the iOS side of this is baked directly into iOS, or is it an app you download from the app store.
Reason for asking is that if it's an app you download, then it's the first I know of that can directly manipulate your messages from a sandbox.

It's baked in when you set up your phone/iPad

I wonder if there is a way of using this to backup/restore iOS message history. With everything else stored in iCloud, messages are the only reason I ever do a restore on my device when a new iOS is released.

That is wholly unfair.
There is a certain % of jerks on the planet... and consequently, in any subgroup.
Moreover, android is on certain phones that are really affordable, something Apple/iOS doesn't offer.

So by default, Apple has a larger % of people with higher income and probably higher education, because they simply ruled out people with less income...
That doesn't mean android isn't a nice platform for people with higher income... I'll make a guess and say the % of people with high income and education is the same on both platforms, but android also gets all the teenagers, lower income and technically less savvy population, and thus, 30% more market share.

I'm a teenager and most people in my school use iPhones, and almost everyone who has a tablet uses iPad. And although there are some cheap androids, there are alsp expensive ones as well, on par with the iPhone. Also, how does an OS show how technically savvy you are? Both android and iOS can get complicated.

I downloaded from the Google Play store in order to ease my mover from my S5 till my 6s when that comes in the mail next week. It asks permission to access your messages, which is how they can directly access and copy any messages you may have on your phone.

I gave it 4 stars just because I still have to go hardline to transfer my downloaded music, if it's doing everything else via wifi it should be able to transfer that as well.

Thanks, but I was thinking more of the iOS side of the transfer mechanism.

I can't remember what it was called, and it may not work anymore due to iOS 8.3s security, but it could back up your texts and restore them to a new phone.

EDIT:

I found the app, it's called iExplorer (https://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/features/export-iphone-messages-voicemail-contacts/). It only lets you export them, and you would have to pay to export, but not to view.

The best thing about this app is "You can recycle this android phone in any apple store" line on the first screenshot on the bottom.
Priceless :D

i have iMazing that allows backup and archive of messages (amongst other things). Shame nothing has the ability to poke them back into the phone.

Yeah, and if Google made an app for moving to iOS (and Apple allowed it in) there wouldn't be a lot of 1 star ratings because it's about moving to Android.

You must be confusing Apple users with people who actually give a stuff. Here's a tip, they don't. Unlike android users who carry their hate around like a tortoise shell.

I think it would be a very interesting comparison.

My observation of Fandroids is that they love to rip Apple & iOS to shreds.
To the extent that many of them believe google invented the modern smart phone interface.
I love pointing them at this article
http://www.theatlantic.com/technolo...y-google-had-to-start-over-on-android/282479/
quoting:
"Chris DeSalvo’s reaction to the iPhone was immediate and visceral. “As a consumer I was blown away. I wanted one immediately. But as a Google engineer, I thought ‘We’re going to have to start over.’”"

Just read the negative responses from the geeks over at Slashdot on this topic.
http://apple.slashdot.org/story/15/...o-ios-is-getting-killed-with-one-star-reviews

On the other hand Apple Fan's don't seem to have the same burning need to diss Android.
Why?

So I think if you were to have a "Move to Android" app on iTunes you'd probably find it largely ignored in comparison to this one on Google Play.

You captured the sentiment perfectly. Apple users just wouldn't give a stuff if there was a switch to android app on the App Store. We'd just chuckle under our breath and say, "you'll be back". Moving to android is a punishment in itself.

"Criticisms in the negative reviews include complaints about iOS, Apple, and that the app uses Apple's design philosophy rather than Google's Material Design."

That's funny because Google does the exact same thing on iOS: Shove their Material Design down our throats rather than using iOS interface elements.

To rate an app you should have at least to download it (This is how it works on iTunes and App Store at least), if it isn't like that in Play Store, they should do something about it, how can you rate something you do not own?

Jesus, how insecure are Android users that they feel the need to do this?

What a bunch of whiners.
Probably about as insecure as Apple users who do the same thing for Google apps on the ios app store. I see reviews all the time bashing Google when they clearly never used the app. It is just such a higher percentage on this new app because it is Apple's first app for Android.

Let me get this straight. This is a copy of another app on the Android store that got 4/5 reviews. All they did was slap an Apple skin on it and mention the concept of jumping ship from iOS to Android and the app gets 1/5 from 12,000 out of 15,000 reviewers? And their only complaint is that it mentions Apple and has iOS artwork? But the app functions completely and is bug-free?

Where there you have it folks. Statistical, factual proof that 80% of Fandroids are the true 'mindless sheep' they so adruosly claim iOS and Apple fans are.

Ironic and deliciously satisfying. I wonder if they realize, in an attempt to take a stab at Apple, they shot themselves in the foot.

Yes, there are some Android phones that cost more than iPhones but most don't.

Android, as an OS, was designed to be fit on anything and sold at any price. The point of Android is to get people online who wouldn't have been online otherwise. That was the point being made, that while the wealthy and intelligent may be equally likely to pick up Android or iPhone, because both are solid platforms, those with less wealthy (which may generally correlate with education levels) are more likely to have an android even if only for budgetary reasons. I'm not talking about saving up for a months to get an iPhone 5c for $400, I'm talking about buying an android tracfone for $15 because that is literally all you can afford.

Just had a look myself on the Apple App Store at Google apps. Here are the review scores. Bear in mind 'Move to iOS' is currently rated at 1.7/5

Youtube - 3/5
Google Search - 2.5/5
Google Maps - 4/5
Google Earth - 3/5
Chrome - 3/5
Gmail - 3.5/5
Google Translate - 4.5/5
Google+ - 4.5/5
Google Drive 4.5/5
Snapseed - 4/5
Chromecast - 3.5/5
Hangouts - 4/5
Google Docs - 4/5
Google Sheets - 3.5/5
Google Authenticator - 4/5

I'm willing to bet Apple Music will be rated similarly to 'Move to iOS' when that comes out on Android.

I think it's important to remember that 12,000 people is an infinitesimally small percentage of the total number of Android users. Do I believe that Android fanatics are worse than Apple fanatics? Yes. But at the same time, I don't like being judged based on the actions of the most extreme Apple fanboys, so I won't judge all Android users based on the actions of a rabid few.

Most people just buy the phone they like and move on with their life- it's not fair to stereotype them just because other people that happen to have a phone with the same OS are irrational and immature.

This is a good app. Samsung Smart Switch does the same thing and it pulled all my information from the iCloud. If you want to go Apple go out if you want to go Android go Android. These apps are just to make people's lives easier once in switching platforms.

14k out of 17k of the reviews were 1 star, according to the screen shot posted above. I think it gives an idea the percentage of the insecure fanboy bunch. It really is sad.

I'm both Android and iOS user and I love both OS's (only after I jailbreak and root them), but I feel really pity for those diehard Android fanboys, hating so much on a brand and making so much effort expressing it everywhere online. They really need better things to do..

Come on let's be fair Apple fanboys are just as bad. Fanboys are fanboys on both sides of the fence.
