It seems like a large percentage of people are fed up with ever increasing pricing. Apple recently adjusted laptop pricing at different storage levels and I’ll bet they saw a sales uptick despite the keyboard saga. I would have been surprised with yet another bump in the premium tier.
That's what it comes down to. Everyone claims they're sick of it. But unless Apple sees an actual sales impact from raising prices, they'll just keep doing it.

So is this a staggered new generation starting by the larger size as customary? I.e., any chance later down the line a 14” will replace the 13”?
If they don't move the lineup to be 12", 14", and 16", then I will be surprised. Maybe all 3 sizes as both Air and Pro models, but more likely 12 and 14 as Air, and 14 and 16 as Pro.

Apple said the Mac Pro is coming this Fall. Technically until December 21st that’s true but Fall is sept- November in my book. December is winter; Apple is late

This is great news. Hope we see great specs for SSD and RAM size standard. Prices have come down and competition is strong. Still excellent news.

They'll never bring back MagSafe. It's USB-C from here on out.

It's funny how I've seen many similar responses. I feel bad that I don't articulate it correctly cause I don't want to create forum tension. I should have said "USB-C MagSafe like the one Griffin makes". I want a magnetic connector so I don't have to buy a new laptop if I accidentally trip over the cable (no one is perfect), and Tim Cook knows that replacement laptops are an excellent revenue source.

Apple's upcoming 16-inch MacBook Pro is set to replace the current 15-inch MacBook Pro, which is priced starting at $2,399, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

The new 16-inch machine, which will be the largest laptop Apple has offered for sale since the 17-inch MacBook Pro was discontinued, will "cost about the same" as the current 15-inch model.

Prior reports suggested the 16-inch MacBook Pro would be sold alongside the 15-inch model as a higher-end, more expensive option, but it sounds like it won't be quite as pricey as first expected.

The new MacBook Pro is said to feature a revamped keyboard that's designed to be "more reliable," and previous rumors have indicated that it will abandon the butterfly switch mechanism Apple has been using for a new scissor switch mechanism.

The display of the upcoming machine will be brighter, and Bloomberg suggests it will appeal to video and photo editors, gamers, and software developers.

As for launch timing, Bloomberg believes that the new MacBook Pro will come out as soon as Wednesday, with the Mac Pro to then follow at some point in December.

Apple this week has been holding private press briefings at its luxury loft mansion in New York City, likely providing media sites with review units for first impressions. Apple will announce the new 16-inch MacBook Pro via press release, as there are no more Apple events expected this year.

So, if this 16.4 is a direct replacement for the Current 15.6, can we confidently assume the 13 inch will be replaced by a 14 inch next year?
I am not after one of these 16.4 inches but I would totally replace my 30 months old 13 inch by a 14 incher around June next year.
Make it happen Apple.

I really hope it has improved battery life. Last generation was really underwhelming in that regard.

Not so much a new generation as a bezel shrink + larger display. Like the recent 9.7” —> 10.2” iPad refresh. An improved keyboard is something they’ve done the last three years, but this time it appears they’ve given up on the butterfly design.

Next year will likely bring a refreshed overall design, for both MacBook Pro (including a 14” to replace the 13) and iMac/iMac Pro. And with that, the entire Mac lineup will have been completely remade over a period of less than two years. I guess it turns out Apple cares about the Mac after all :)

"Bloomberg suggests it will appeal to video and photo editors, gamers, and software developers."

So, everybody then.

can we just get a 32/512 option for $2800?
So you want a bigger screen and a $200 discount? Why not wish for $1,999, it’s equally likely.

32/512 will likely be about $3,100, you might be able to get one on sale over the holidays from the usual suspects, depending on how tight supply is.

This makes a lot of sense to me. People seem to be forgetting that the 2016+ MacBook Pros were already overpriced. (And I'm not saying that in an anti-Apple way, it's just the truth—I own a 2016 15", so I'm speaking from experience.)
Since it sounds like they're not weakening on this crazy idea that it's okay for a "pro" machine to have 100% soldered-in RAM and storage, then I hope they at least have some decent value options for both... and please, just drop the f***ing 256 GB build; it's just a bad joke, in this day and age. I mean, I suppose if you're someone who literally does everything with cloud storage, then maybe, but there's still no excuse, given the pricing, for a 256 GB option... start at 512, Apple, please...

I last bought a brand new MBP in 2012. Since then the prices have gone up, and worse, they removed the upgradeability of RAM and HD/SSD, which in effect massively increases the price, as I would need to either buy much more than I currently need but at current high prices, or turn over my laptops every time I needed more. And thus, I haven't bought a brand new machine since. The only sane price point without upgradeable RAM/SSD is to buy second hand. And due to the problems of every MBP since 2016, I have stuck with my current 2015 (which came with maxed out RAM, and I've since upgraded the SSD as prices came down on OWC). So, I know my own case is only anecdotal, but I for one am not only claiming I'm sick of the prices, I've been voting with my wallet too. And I presume I'm not the only one, and suspect that is why Apple did reduce prices on larger sized SSDs.

I’m gonna be the cynical one of the group that says I don’t believe its gonna be the same price or even “about the same”. im betting on at least a $200 price bump and that although the screen is technically bigger, it’s barely even noticeable and everything else will feel just about the same. So all this hype over...a marginally bigger screen. I’m also waiting to hear the reports of the new keyboards failing

/the grinch
The screen size bump will definitely be noticeable, 15.4” —> 16.4”. Put in monetary terms, it’s like the $2,399 base model increasing to $2,729.

So on a pixel by pixel basis, the 15” MBP is getting a larger screen, a more reliable keyboard with a physical escape key, and a price cut o_O :p 😂

Well this was unexpected, but absolutely most welcome news. Looking forward to its release.

EDIT - Anything within a $500 price difference would be “about the same” to Apple.

"More reliable" doesn't mean they're leaving the butterfly switches.

Gurman clearly spoke with someone today who was at the hands on.

So, more reliable keyboard (whatever that means) and brighter screen.

Same price point as the 15 inch.

Not a true re-design.

You can see why there is no event for this.

*Assuming* everything Gurman says is accurate (and I think it is).

Just curious. Do you arrange your power cable so it runs across the floor? I understand it may be a challenge due to furniture arrangement. At home, I happen to have a power outlet in the wall directly next to the desk I use. In the office settings I've been in at any given employer, there are typically outlets in the cubical or directly under the desk.

I loved MagSafe when it was the norm. I was initially sad when it started being dropped. But, then I noticed my power cable never runs across a floor and was never in a place where somebody might trip over it. Eventually, I grew to prefer the USB-C connector because it can carry power and data. In a single cable. And in a MacBook with multiple USB-C ports, any of those ports and be used to supply power.

More ports, upgradeable RAM and SSD. Is that so much to ask?
That's what you call a rhetorical question ;) Honestly though, last spring I opened up my 15" rMPB 2012 to do a MB replacement (I found a 2013 rMPB motherboard w/16 GB of memory on eBay for ~$300). If you saw firsthand the engineering inside, you would realize that it ain't that easy to keep the form factor of the MBP and have field-replaceable main components. Btw, the upgrade did work, with that 2013 motherboard being the last version that would function in the 2012 chassis. I got an additional 8 GB of memory, GPU bump to the nvidia 750M/2GB, and a wifi bump to 802.11 AC (had to buy the wifi mini-pci card separately). It was worth it, although I managed to lose the kb backlight, which kinda sucks. I bought a cheap flexible USB led light to cover that - not ideal, but functional.
