its is, but i prefer noscript, does the same thing and more

shocker, apple has an issue with industry standard:rolleyes: at this point i don't think its fair to isolate strictly to adobe as SL has had some issues with performance and is still being vigorously updated.
Link? All I could find was the one for Safari.

You do realize Adobe is a large company with a lot of programmers right?

They also make the Flash plug-in for Windows and OSX. It is up to Adobe to address this problem not Apple.
If Apple were to "write their own plugin" it would do nothing because in essence you're saying Apple should re-write the Flash plug-in and give it to Adobe.

Adobe would never allow that to happen.
This problem is a direct result of Adobe not caring about making Flash better.

Microsoft has it's own Mac Unit that makes cross-platform applications such as Silverlight, which is actually better than Flash. At least Microsoft tries to make their product better. I have seen no desire on the part of Adobe to make their OSX products better. They simply do not care because the web uses it so much and Windows holds a 90 something % share of O/S's.

so why doesn't this happen with Flash for Windows? I use flash in every browser on Windows 7 and never had this issue

doesn't mean it's flash either. could be a bug in the graphics drivers since OS X is OpenGL and on Windows almost everything uses DirectX.

Re-read my post and you will see why.;)

it could still be a bug in the graphics drivers or something else where Flash could be making a function call to do something and it's causing a memory leak or something similar.

when i used to upgrade my nvidia drivers years ago on a regular basis i used to read the change log and they would code all kinds of crap into the drivers because different games did things different ways and it would cause all kinds of problems with the drivers/directX and whatever. or they would just fix bugs in their drivers or introduce bugs because there are always errors in the hardware and the drivers work around them.

SO let me see if I got this straight...

Apple needs to test not only its OS and its OWN internally developed applications and the open-source projects included with OS X for QA issues but also the MANY THOUSANDS of 3rd party applications available of OS X too?

....

Uhm, no. Not many thousands. But stuff like FLASH, which is on virtually every computer on Earth, yeah, it should be tested.

If Apple was serious about Flash running well on Macs, it would have done it. Come on, the new Flash 10 beta runs nicely on Android, but it chokes a 27" iMac?! And this is not Apple problem?!

Notice that Apple has gone out of it's way to prevent Flash on the iPhone, making it the only major mobile platform which will not be able to run Flash 10.

I like Apple, but for some here it's like religion. No matter what the evidence against their deity, the faithful will defend it to the death.

Issues like this are just making me less and less eager to buy a Mac. People talking about their Mac's breaking down all the time, then everyone saying their Mac's can't even play Flash, that's kind of sad. Worse is the fan boy's saying Flash is crap because their Mac's can't play it.. Noo, I think it's just the Mac's that are crap.

I'm on a PC, and over the years using a PC I've never had an issue with Flash, ever.

And this is a great example of windows user logic.

There's absolutely nothing apple can do about Adobe refusing to put out a good plugin for flash on OS X.

Adobe is notorious for optimizing their CRAP (and I mean CRAP emphatically) for windows.

Flash is antiquated, and so are you.

YouTube and Flash are not some random or obscure applications. Head over to http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/ and scroll down the page. YouTube is closely integrated into the iPhone, AppleTV, and iMovie which makes it a pretty big priority for Apple to test correctly.

If this issue happened in Windows 7, I wonder how many Apple fan boys would step up to defend Windows like they are for Apple?

I can't get over how big the screen is lol. In the video he actually has to pan the camera over just to get the shot of activity monitor

have you never seen an HDTV? :p just playin with ya a bit but seriously, there are much bigger screens out there

Agreed.

Well, getting flash to run well on Android likely took quite a bit of optimization, optimization that either Adobe, Google or some combination of the two put the effort in for.

But yeah, there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't run well on a 27" iMac.

Notice that Apple has gone out of it's way to prevent Flash on the iPhone, making it the only major mobile platform which will not be able to run Flash 10.
Part of me wonders just how much hostility exists between Adobe and Apple. A lot of the die-hards here want to shove all of the blame to Adobe, but Apple could very well be at fault here. It somewhat reminds me of the days of Flash and how Apple wanted to provide their own implementation instead of just working with Sun on it.

I like Apple, but for some here it's like religion. No matter what the evidence against their deity, the faithful will defend it to the death.
Every major OS/hardware company/etc. has this though. To be quite honest, while at times the Apple lovers can get annoying, it's no where near as bad as the console fanboys ;)

Adobe cares more about Flash on Windows and Youtube ( owned by Google ) than it does on OSX.

There is currently a fall-out between Google and Apple. Android was started by Google.

Add it up and it comes out ..Adobe cares more about Google than it does about Apple.

Flash is so beat on my MB.

What upsets me is when I watch say a Keynote in streaming QT format, it looks, and sounds great. Great resolution and frame rate, yet I can barely make it through anything on Youtube without quiting before the end. The performance is terrible!!! I wouldn't be upset if I didn't know that there was a format out there that is soooo much better than Flash video. Ugh.

That doesn't bother me at all, because I can always click on those rare instances where Flash is useful...90% of the time it's just about crappy drop-down ads that you NEVER wanna see, ridiculous auto-playing video and music and pop-ups...definitely no, thanks.

Edit: I am 68010!!! ;)

This is just stupid.

First of all, Flash is a lot more than ads, and a lot of the cooler sites are either entirely in flash, or use it heavily.

Second, if everyone blocked these "crappy drop-down ads that you NEVER wanna see," most sites will ether disappear, or demand payment to view them. And this includes MacRumors.

As I said, just stupid.

Nothing Apple can do? They can't create their own Flash player, or plugin? Seems like they could. They did it for Java.

And what determines whether something is antiquated or not? You know Unix is 40 years old right? Seems to be working well for OS X ;)

Apple gives away stuff as open source all the time. What do they lose if they improve Flash on OS X "for Adobe?" Nothing.

Exactly why Apple should step up. Instead, they are trying to pretend the problem will go away if they just ignore it hard enough.

Only problem with that is Flash player isn't open source. It is a proprietary format owned by Adobe.

Apple can't simply decompile Flash and re-write it and give it to the open source community. That's illegal.

why the HELL should apple pick up adobe's slack? All of you saying that Apple should release their own flash plugin are crazy.

If adobe wants to survive they should start treating the massive amount of creative professionals using macs a little better by at least enabling them to view the content they make without any problems.

They make a creative suite for OS X and then make the end products suck performance-wise? Doesn't make any sense.

And seriously, who the hell designs adobe programs? Their UI is all dark color on darker color. Someone running that company must be color blind. Maybe autistic, too.

Flash Player itself isn't open source, but Adobe did release the SWF specification, so Apple could create their own flash player.

Heh, are you saying, that in the long run, Apple is dead in the water, because all the cool new technology will be unavailable to it...? :)

Flash is important, and Adobe does deliver it for OS 10. If Apple truly cared, they can dedicate a couple of people to work closely with Adobe, and with the rest of the Apple team, to work out the kinks.

But, if the iPhone is any indication, Apple just doesn't care.

P.S. It does seem to be a different experience on different Apple hardware:

A two years old white MacBook I have, starts sounding like a vacuum cleaner every time I watch a Flash video, or run a Flash site, or run a Java applet.

My two new, sealed battery MacBooks Pro (one 13", one 15"), don't have any significant issues with Flash, even though the processor speed on the 13" is not all that much faster, and both use 9400 graphics. They all run SL.
