X should've been $699. 8 is redundant and should've never been introduced.

You nailed it. It's just the 7S, though Apple decided to keep it, to fill that price point, and have an excuse to up the X.

The x should have replaced the outgoing 7, so the 256 x should be £950, now we have three price points for the 6 design ...each one sticking around to up the price ...

Apple has absolutely been guilty of that in the past (and still are in some product categories like the Mac Mini still selling for the same price as when it was released 3 years ago), but the phones are very competitively priced. The SE for $349 is a steal, in my opinion. There is nothing that competes with it in the 4" market. Nothing even comes close, as far as I can tell. $449 for the 6S is also an insane value. Even by today's standards, the 6S is a respectable high-end flagship phone.

Don't forget that Samsung and Google and even LG have outrageously priced phones in the high-end. The X compares very favorably to those devices.

I set those SE's up at work all the time for employees. I see nothing special about 'em. Deal or no deal I can't stand the tiny screens on them but I still recommend iPhones to anyone since their pretty low maintenance for me. All of the users that get them, use them just as a phone, barely any texting, their RSA app, and checking to see if I got an email so I can reply from desk. When they fill 'em with photos they've taken on it they just leave them on the phone until next upgrade period or come to me asking how do I get this picture onto my computer or what does it mean when it says my iCloud is full. Lol

The official store price in EU (e.g. DE) is just crazy. IPX 256G ~ USD1600. This is unbelievable regardless the technology they managed to stuff in. They are simply trying what people are still willing to accept - next year we go for 2K? I can afford it but definitely not sure whether such price is worth it - probably not. I really hate their memory & people rip of strategy - 64G for such a phone - this means that people not willing to spend that crazy money for 256G will be straggling with 64G and there will be many of them.. while price for another 64G chip is just couple of $. If you want to fully use its potential you need more than 64. It's like giving you Tesla S with battery for 100 miles.. No.1 concern for them is just more $. We just need more :D

I have noticed that Apple is using a different "Apple Tax" exchange rate for each phone

e.g. the iPhone X 64GB carries a AUD Apple Tax of 16%
while the iPhone 8+ 64GB carries an AUD Apple Tax of 12%
(After removing 10% GST from the conversion)

Its funny how there used to be just 1 iPhone, the current model and that was it, then they started keeping the old model, then they added the old, old, old model but updating just the internals, now we have 5 different models at one time. Kind of a stocking issue for carriers I suspect. Still more bummed about the X not shipping for 1.5 months, but oh well my cash can sit with me for a longer period of time.

That's because Apple is not confident in their decisions and with every new model they introduce it gives them a fallback plan so if you don't like the new you surely will still be interested in our previous model then. Either way they still make the $$$.

The 6s shouldn't be there.

I'm tempted to agree from a streamlined point of view but the SE is basically a 6S without 3D Touch. The 6S adds 3D Touch and a larger screen, so it gives Apple a large screen device at a relatively entry level price point. But its an interesting departure from historical precedent, something must be driving it, possibly lack of people upgrading?

Why? It's slower than Touch ID, less flexible when it comes to unlocking your device from various angles..

If its off to the side I cant just press home to unlock it.
If I'm in bed and just wanna unlock it quickly I need to pick it up now and face it.
It takes longer to unlock your device.

The whole reason apple worked so hard to try and sell people on FaceID is because they know it is inferior when it comes to speed and convenience and couldnt make Touch ID work.
It may unlock quicker but how would you use it without picking it up and looking at it? The whole point with Face ID, if it works as well as I trust Apple it will, is that it removes the need to do anything, therefore you are inherently protected without needing to think about it - that’s the magic that the likes of Samsung don’t understand

Please tell me you are joking. They are just keeping old models in stock and selling them at lower prices. In what way is that "confusing" in the least? Anyone who finds that confusing won't be able to operate a modern smart phone anyway.

I will never understand that logic. "This business is giving me too many options! I'm so confused!" If I go to a car dealership, I'm not confused if they offer a 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015 model of the same car. I don't ask the dealership to stop selling the 2015 model because it confuses me.

We are past the point where smart phones become outdated in 2 years, so there's no reason to discontinue phones so quickly. It's a good thing Apple still offers the older phones for people who don't need the latest and greatest. No need to overpay for the 8 when you can use a 6s and be just as happy.

Actually I disagree, this line-up can be confusing. Can you imagine walking into an Apple store (such as my mom) and she tells an Apple employee she wants an iPhone. Apple person says which one and has to explain to customer the differences of each model of the iPhone. Got a half hour to spare? Cuz it is going to take longer than just saying well it's the previous model and the previous of the previous model of the current model phone. That's not a good remark or even a good sell-play. The words Previous / Old / Former / Past / Precedent will surely be on the restricted word list that an Apple employee cannot or will not use to a customer. I can tell you right now not a lot of non-techie people care about 30% faster graphics cpus and what-not.

I think the SE should have been part of the 6S family rather than a separate iPhone but they ballsed it all up when they went with the “Plus” naming convention with the iPhone 6. I agree the 6S range shouldn’t now be there, but I’d be weary of buying the SE/6S because they meet the minimum processor requirements for AR. I’m sure for that reason Apple won’t kill support for them soon but I certainly wouldn’t pay all that money for a 2 generations old processor. For that reason, my wife’s new phone will need to be an 8 (while I get the X :D)

Do you know about cases?
What do they stop fear of breaking your phone?
I have one and it lessens the fear but people have cases and phones still get cracked screens.

Apple are pitching this one at the strongest glass they have used yet.
Very careful wording to give the impression you are not going to crack these screens when dropped.
[doublepost=1505290857][/doublepost]
Are you including tax differences in that?
Apple are charging 12-16% more in Australia, the Apple Tax is back

This is likely the last year of an iPhone with a home button or bezel. There won't be a 9 or 9 Plus. Next year we will see the return to 2 phones. The next generation X and a X Plus to compete with the Samsung S9 and Note.

"Introducing the all new SE-X iPhone. It's big enough to hold in one hand, with enough power to last all night."

Well considering how many people actually watch XXX on their phones I guess in a way that name would be fitting. lol Watching XXX on the SE-X. Yuppp!

The clever money would be to buy the iPhone 7 if your still on the 5 or 6 and save the change.

At the end of the day it's iOS, which is exactly the same no matter which iPhone you have.

Plus, bragging down the pub with your £1200 iPhone X 256gb and your mate scratches your screen... ouch...

At this point it’s far from a phone. It’s an incredibly powerful and wireless Apple computer that you carry in your pocket, and is likely used more than any other computer by most people.

Also, I know Apple is pushing the upper limit on iPhone pricing, but they are pushing the lower pricing too. I’m happy to see more options at the lower end of the spectrum.

People keep mentioning 'computer', which is more of a geeky term, but due to software limitations of iOS, doing anything geeky on an iOS device is highly restricted.

The day Xcode is available on iOS is the day an iPhone or iPad can be called a computer... Until that day any iOS device is just the ultimate consumer entertainment device.

What a stupid point of view. You could say the same if Apple released a $2000 iPhone or a $3000 iPhone. The thing is Apple shouldn't preach that the iPhone "has changed the world", then put the flagship price up. Cheers Apple.
Dude, chill. Have ever listen to any event, Apple, Microsoft, Google, etc. where they didn’t pitch they were doing something earth shattering? If you don’t believe the hype, good on you. But don’t let it ruin your day.

Yeah. 999$ is currently 840€. Add VAT and the Euro Price should be roughly 1 to 1. Now the iPhone x actually starts at 1149€. That's a tough pill to swallow and I have a feeling that apple will correct prices early next year, which would get me all pissed. Problem though: my 6S is running out of space. I need a bigger iPhone.
Then get a new 6S with more storage. And you can still use wired headphones with it sans dongles.

For those complaining about price, how about keeping your phone for more than a year, and saving up for the next phone you want / need?

iPhones are not obsolete in a year.

I've still got my 6+ (3 years old) which is painfully slow, but still not bad enough for me to bother to "upgrade" to any of the newer models. At the moment it seems the only reasonable "upgrade" would be to 6S+ assuming I wanted to pay ~900USD (759e) for the 128GB plus model. iX would be 1349e (or ~1300USD excluding VAT).

Regardless of how long I've had my phone or how much I need a new one, I always compare the price to what it gets me. On the case of iPhone X I fail to find any reason to buy it. Sure, the screen is bigger while the physical size is smaller than on the Plus models, but is that worth a few hundred to me? Surely not. iPhone 8+ seems to have all the features of the X except or the better selfie camera and faceID which I'm not too excited about to begin with. I'm writing this on a Surface Pro 4 which has the Windows Hello. It works as long as you spend enough time staring directly at the screen in a room with enough, but not too much light. It fails the second I'm wearing a hat, sunglasses or anything else on my face. It had issues on my summer vacation when I got tanned - just recognizing slower, rarely failing though. I've had the same problems with every single other device with face recognition I've tried (and returned). Even were the FaceID to work flawlessly you'd stlll have to bring it in front of your face to get it to work. You're walking on a street, which makes more sense: taking the phone out of your pocket while unlocking it using TouchID on the way so you can quickly check whatever you needed to on the hip level, then locking and returning it to your pocket - or taking the phone out, holding it in front of your face while staring at it (because nobody wants to watch where they're walking anyway!), waiting for it to recognize our face before doing it all. Even if it worked quickly it'd still be an annoyance.

I'm beginning to feel they made it that way so that everyone quickly realized how crappy the feature is so they could push more Apple Watch sales. Then again, complementing one useless toy with another useless toy... not my idea of entertainment. I will consider the watch when it has >3 day (REAL LIFE) battery.

Oh, did I forget to mention: 8+ has better battery life than X. None of them still anything to write home about, though.

The only thing going for Apple at the moment is that nobody else is making anything that seems any better. You get to choose from many different mediocre products, all of which have to be recharged once or twice during a work day to keep them going. Plus all night, every night. Oh joy!

Last year I got a 7 with 128GB storage for 699.
This year 699 buys you an 8 with 64GB storage.

Ok.

Don't even start me on 999 only gets you a 64GB X.

No but the battery’s are f’d in just over a year. My 6S+ for me does everything I want and runs iOS11 fantastically but the battery is screwed it’s currently reporting a capacity of 2300mah out of 2750mah but on some days it has read as low as 1800mah.

Yesterday I enabled low power mode at 20% and literally watched 8% battery just drop off in 5 minutes by scrolling my Twitter timeline.

So in May when I am due an upgrade I imagine the battery will be even more f’d and will literally force me to upgrade even if the phone itself is still working well.
So, fork over $80 for a new battery.
