HEY! Let's make it HALF the size, have HALF the function, contain HALF the expected memory... for THE SAME PRICE

ok, so half the size is a GOOD thing.

"expected memory"? expected by whom? now yer mad about things you made up in your own head?

The funny thing is nor could the guy in the commercial. There's no way that you could navigate it that easily.

oh, i couldn't, could i? i'll bet i could. and since you have exactly the same amount of experience with it as i do... you have no idea either.

don't tell me what i can't do. doesn't even look that hard, to me.

maybe YOU can't. but you may have no fingers, i don't know.

multitouch that you cant use in a useful multitouch way

umm... says who? looks pretty useful to me. i would say swiping and rotating are two very good examples of useful multitouch function.

unless, of course, everyone on this board has humongous sausage fingers.

well, we ARE geeks, after all. so i guess fat fingers are more likely than not...

Can't believe it, nano price point is way too high. People would want to either spend $50 more for the 8GB touch or save $100 and buy just the shuffle instead.

Btw, the shuffle is very, very cool. I think I might buy one when it's available in the refurbished store. My upcoming iPhone 4 can not be clipped and use while running (and the accessories to badly enable that is as much as the iPod shuffle itself).

That is what having a concealed handgun is for as you run on the park -- mostly young beautiful women. Heard it best like this.

England: Woman on runs in park. She is attacked. She is raped. Rapist gets away. Low quality cameras all over the city and can't trace the guy. Entire town undergoes genetic tests only to find the rapist is not in the DNA database since he is an illegal immigrant. She undergoes state sponsored counseling and put on bunch of mood calming medications. Lady gets on a few daytime television shows and is recruited into a victims political group.

One of the 38 Right to Carry States in the USA: Woman on runs in park. She is attacked. Woman pulls out handgun and shoots rapist dead. Woman gets cash reward for the rapist since he was on the lam for over a year. Woman upgrades handgun to one that is more lady like with some pink and bling on it.

Well, I might be not from the States and live very near England, but if I was the judge, the woman would get caught for murder. If she just made the rapist unconscious, now that's another story. But murder is still murder in my eyes.

* And no, the rapist wouldn't either get out free. Imprisonment for X amount of years. Or therapy, which I think helps more.

On-topic: Something says me if I buy either the iPod Shuffle or the new and often joked iPod Watch, it'll get lost quite soon. Those things are small. They can get everywhere when my house's a mess. (and that is often. :D )

WTF? Who said I was mad? Merely astonished at this year's product logic.
Memory almost always doubles.

Or is the same memory, half the function, and a smaller screen a good deal for the same price one year later? Anyone that believes this Nano was a good marketing move is questionable. It was the worst product blunder by Apple in years due to pricing. If it was a lot less money for that, it would make sense.

You're right. No argument against it.

Only, when you make millions, billions, or kazillions (is that how you write it?) amount of profit, what difference makes a few hundred dollars nowadays? You don't even notice the difference between one dollar and ten dollars when you have that amount of money. It muddles your thoughts. So why bother?

That little nano is kind of cute. It's growing on me. I don't need it, though. Well, maybe I could use it. I like the all touch-screen miniaturized mojo. Yes, I need one! So, um, so I don't run down my iPhone battery listening to music!

The RDF...too strong...cannot resist...must buy...

iPod touch chrome back that scratches when you fart too loud...why do they keep using that material??

why 8gb rather than 16gb for the base model...just to **** the customer in the ass to make you buy the 32gb model.

it's sad they do this on purpose.

They did. A lot. They call it the iPod Touch.

Then, because they want people to buy it, they cut down their cheap-oh players even more than they were. Pretty smart move.

It makes sense to me. I bought an iPod Mini for $249 way back when. Now you can buy a frick'n touch iPod for less than that. They've made an amazing amount of progress over the last decade...and it starts at $199! That's the iPod they love and the one they want you to buy.

So Apple's cheap iPods are...cheap? Yeah. That's the plan.

The iPod touch unfortunately still does not serve the purpose of a high capacity media player, at only 64GB for the highest capacity model, which costs way more than the classic. $399 vs $249 is not good. I noticed someone on the forums mention that he/she had 172GB of music, and wouldn't upgrade to a touch until it gets to a decent capacity (128GB or above...)

So I really hope they continue the classic or upgrade it, keeping it as the low $/GB iPod.

And the only one to still have the beloved click wheel.

Wait no HD photo taking for ipod touch??

how many mega pixels is the camera

Cnet.co.uk says 0.7mp according to the max resolution of the lens.

Yes, I laughed too. And it explains why the pixel count isn't listed anywhere! Still going to buy one though...and only £60 (or £20) more than a nano...you get SO much for that extra coinage. Seems ridiculous to consider a nano actually...although it is cute.

Wish they would've left in the video playback. P90X and other workout videos are much easier to use when actually at the gym...weird, I know. I ripped 'em all and they're on my 3rd gen nano. Works beautifully...guess it'll do until it dies.

Does this new nano work with nike's new heart rate monitor?

No built-in mic on iPod Touch

No built-in mic on iPod Touch - what were they thinking??!?!?! Now have to use headphones to use FaceTime - WTF!

Apart from that ... a good update I think! :)

This iPod is a beast!!!

The new iPod Touch with front-facing camera & HD Video Recording will start a new level of iPod...

We now have the ultimate iPod!

I truly don't think we will get 3G (nor 4G) service for an iPod Touch (counterproductive for the consumer wanting an iPhone), and there will never be a GPS on an iPod Touch due to the GPS chip utilizing A-GPS for such alike devices.

Like, I said... We now have the best iPod ever! Only thing else a user could want, is more storage!

oh great!!! i went and bought the iphone 4 when i could have just gotten the touch and avoided the crappy service while still getting all the perks of the phone lol :D meh, ill live. i dunno if its just me,but i find the design of te 3gs way more appealing than the 4 design...am i alone in this??? hope not. wish they woulda stuck to the original design *sigh*

Nano....now virtually useless in a vehicle

I actually do quite like the new nano.

There is a downside to multitouch as it currently stands (not knocking it though!) and that it is not particularly vehicle friendly. I have a 2ndG shuffle, which I find to be the most controllable in a vehicle as I don't need to take my eyes off the road when skipping songs. That is the advantage of the physical click wheel. I wish there were a way in which to supersize the iPod controls on the iPhone/iTouch for easy navigation in a vehicle. That would at least help (Apple take note!).

I do know there are accessories available that have physical controls, but these are often on the DC connector and depending on the type of vehicle you have, the location of the socket is not always that convenient (Car manufacturers take note!).

Of course, this doesn't apply to those who have vehicles where iPods can be integrated fully into their car systems.

Just a point of view based on observation from my experience.

The only problem with the new Nano. People like to feel buttons in their pocket or when they have their eyes focused on something else. Although, to be able to "show off" who you are listening to is a plus. But the screen probably doesn't stay on full brightness all the time. If you jog or want to be more discreet with your ipod, I would probably get the shuffle. You can't beat the cool factory with a multi-touch display, but when it comes down to usability I think the shuffle is the way to go.

iTunes 10!

Finally downloaded iTunes by accident, I found a way how to get it downloaded! Follow me on Twitter @joue to get the instruction!

Oh please thats like saying they beefed up my cavalier. A lot. They call it the Corvette ZR1. Two completely different beasts.

Until iPod Touch gets two simple seek/next buttons so I don't have to look at it [which I realize might never happen, but it might when they drop the classic] I'm ultimately uninterested in the iPod Touch and now I wouldn't look twice at the nano either.

Touch screens, while neat, is inferior as far as functionality goes. Yes I've owned one, the 1st generation 16Gb Touch when they first came out, I used it for about 2 months put it back on the shelf because the neatness wore off. Picked it back up when apps came out, checked out some apps, and came to the decision this device just isn't for me. The classic and shuffle fits my needs the most out of all the players.
