Modular Mac Pro 2019 *

* supports only components with special chip made for Mac Pro. Apple Store exclusive.

I don't really believe they will make upgradable Mac Pro like those < 2013. Funny thing is that PC cases didn't change much over the years, so the old Mac Pro case still looks very good. They just could upgrade the internals each year and everybody would be happy.

I hate when companies are "creating a problem" and then try to solve it (and then fail in case of Apple). Like those MacBook keyboards. The original retina MBP is a design masterpiece. Of course thinner bezels, lighter device, bigger trackpad are welcomed improvements, but it should be done carefully.

Well, someone a few comments above me was wondering how Apple would earn from a modular computer. I guess we have our answer.
On a more serious note, I think this is how Apple sees the future of computers. For example, you have a thin and light MacBook Pro for maximum portability, that can dock to a 5k display and eGPU for additional screen estate and graphics power (effectively simulating a desktop setup). On paper, this allows for the best of both worlds, but boy will you pay through the nose for it.

I wonder what sort of connectivity and expansion Apple will come up with for usb c.
Send that shopping list - that I support - to Tim and he’ll probably answer with a Pencil (= his main Pro attribution)

I cannot wait for the new modular Mac Pro. It's the #1 product that I've been wanting for the last two years, more than any other electronic or non-electronic device. The next Apple event can't come soon enough!
Apple nowadays could let us wait for some years and then “later ‘this’ year”.

So this "can longer innovate my ass" thing turns out to be can no longer innovate my ass. :D
When they said that during the event, then it is probably true.
Same when they emphasized “courage”, they nolonger have any courage.

Apple has been “talking” about the new Mac Pro for a year and a half now and we still don’t have anything. If nothing is released until the end of 2019, then it will be 2.5 years since they said they’re “committed” to the pro market.

For a company the size of Apple and with the resources they have, it should not take this long to design a new Mac Pro and release it. It’s been all talk and no action. Let’s face it: Apple’s leadership is not deeply committed to pro users. It’s readily apparent that high-end mobile devices is Apple’s primary focus and the professional creative market is an afterthought.

Look at what happened to Blizzard with the D3 community upon announcement of an iOS version. People are tired of the "we are listening" PR smoke, and Apple blows tons of it.

Don't have any of the "new" ones, but we still have seven towers: 3 live as I type this, 3 just retired (will probably use them for web services), 1 for testing. Oh, and one in there store room for parts. LOVE these machines.

I'm pretty sure professionals would be perfectly fine if they dust off the cheese grater design, and maybe make it space grey. They're less concerned about "oooo shiny" than consumers are.
No real professional is really concerned about that at all. It's more a "nice to have" feature, which determines for you whether the computer is on your desk, or under it. Apple products sell themselves by being products people want to display. I hope Apple does go tower again, but I'm not holding my breath.

IIRC the iMac Pro was supposed to be a stop gap measure.
In my opinion it is a placeholder to justify the higher price of the Mac Pro.
But we will see ... I do not expect any reasonably priced products from Apple anytime soon.

Exactly. But ...

As a busy typer, who is most times still using a mouse for precision, I don't like the bigger trackpad.
Also, Apple is selling you one, you can use it even when the lit is closed and you are using a monitor and a real keyboard.

I think the keyboard and the trackpad are the main problem if you cannot work with external peripherals.

It's so awesome, that it lasted 5 years!/s ;)

Seriously Apple, just switch back to the previous design and call it a day. You dont need some crazy visual design for this market segment, just functionality.

I've been waiting since 2013/4 for a new Mac Pro to replace my beloved cheesegrater. I nearly bought a PC, then nearly ordered an iMac Pro, but thought I'd give Apple the benefit off the doubt, and wait for the new 'pro' system. So I've now waited another two years – in which time I could have been happily using another, more powerful machine – and now my biggest fear is that I'll have to wait another six months – maybe longer – for a machine that's expensive, overdesigned, and still doesn't allow access to Nvidia GPUs.

I just can't help feel that after all this time, and my pointless loyalty to Apple and the Mac, I'll still end up buying a PC in 2019...

I'm glad they've taken their time. While I was waiting I upgraded my (4,1) cheese grater to a dual 6 core (24 virtual cores) monster with SSD boot drive, modern Bluetooth and USB 3.1, eSATA hot swap external drives, modern color card, and dual 4k monitors. So my box that I bought in 2009 is running Mojave. Less than $1200 for a modern Mac. I'm in no hurry for the "modular" MacPro.

The MacPro that I bought in 2009 is still humming away under my desk. It's the best piece of equipment I've ever bought, but I'd have replaced it two or three times over by now if there was anything that justified it. I'm thankful for everyone on the forums that have shared information to keep these machines competitive and supported up through Mojave.

It's so incredibly obvious what Apple needs to do to serve the user base using these war horses. It's certainly not the biggest revenue base they have, but it's the base that's building Mac software, building iOS apps and pushing the edges of what's possible in Apple's ecosystem.

I so completely hope I'm wrong about what I fear is coming in 2019.
