I agree. The nice thing about OSX (and other well designed OSs, I'm not talking XP here) is that usually an application failure won't touch anything on the OS level. The same can't usually be said of XP.
"Usually" might be a bit of an exaggeration now-a-days, but the fact that application installs tend to mess with your DLL's a lot (see my prior post) does seem to make the whole system a bit of a house of cards.

I find both XP and OSX to be stable but if I were to pick a OS that has been the more stable over the last 12 months then I would have to say XP. Most don't realise just how stable XP is now.

OSX is also very stable but the recent patches gave me a few problems that I just don't get with M$ patches.

I predict dual core powermacs with a new case design, better video cards. YEAH!

I've been on the road (business travel), so I've not been able to read through the thread to see what the predictions have been.

Thus said, I will have to say that its not fun/easy to read MacRumors on the tiny screen of a Blackberry.

...and as such, what would make for a pretty sweet "PRO" grade Laptop would be to have the wireless Blackberry/RIM cellphone broadband connection built right in, just like it currently is for 802.11

Granted, this would probably screw up all of the WiFi Networks' business models for business travellers, but I do have to say from direct experience that its *really nice* to be able to go anywhere and have nearly fully transparent connectivity without having to even think about logging on, etc.

For a PRO Laptop, that's the way to go IMO, Hands down.

And since Apple's already been working with Cingular for the iTunes phone, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch for them to also negotiate the necessary agreement for a laptop that has a data-based cellphone system built in, along with its 802.11 Airport card.

-hh

EDIT:

PS: and since I'm currently lugging around a ~5.5lb IBM T41p, a Road Warrior class machine needs to be lighter and able to be open on a jet's tray table while the seat in front of you is relinced...to me, this all suggests a 12" widescreen, which unfortunately I'm afraid that Apple will definitely NOT be releasing today.

You've gotten remain rational about this issue dude. I crashed the cr*p outta my 1.67 Powerbook during only 2 weeks of owning it. All it takes is flakey software, drivers, or hardware. On either platform.

Agreed. I have a mac and 3 XP machines all on a KVM switch.. and all 4 computers crash now and then. OSX is the best OS I've ever used, hands down, but it's not perfect.

Is the press event broadcasted on TV? If so which channel?

Thanks all!
TV? Just try to get it on the intetnet where everyone wants it and you'll fail miserably ... at least until it is over. TV?!?! BWAHAHAHA! :D

Half an hour left, 1:30AM - blow this, I'm getting some sleep. See you again in 7-8ish hours, after three more headline stories and ~2000 posts, the majority of which will be bitching about why we didn't get BluRay drives or dual dual cores or whatever. I swear, what other computing company inspires people like this. Do you see HP fanboys watching live feeds of the new Dimension models? :p

US STORE DOWN! YEAH! :D

(p.s... if you really keep the 2.7Ghz and don't change them like some have suggested... I'm done. ick.)

You know, every time there's a new pro machine revision, someone finds a reference to PowerMac 7,2 and PowerMac 7,3 or something like that which hints at upcoming computers. Is this not the case in 10.4.2? Could we finally see 10.4.3 today?

Go to iChat, File -> "Go to chat" and then enter "appleinsider"

Kind of cool.

JT

That doesn't do anything for me when I type appleinsider in to 'go to chat'. What is supposed to happen?

Track pad with 2 buttons, on the new powerbooks I'm calling that right now.

i hope not. i hate using a trackpad with two buttons. the one button makes so much more sense because i always press in the centre. tapping the button for left and the pad for right, thats innovation.

Quicktakes for sure!

Apple will launch a full line of Quicktake cameras.

Quicktake video = allows for video recording

Quicktake Nano = small digital camera

Quicktake Shuffle = takes random photos all the d@#n time :p
