This has just appeared on my Apple TV.
If I click on it it just says welcome to the App Store with a continue button which does nothing.
A placeholder for something?

Im so excited I need to take a Xanax to calm down I hope they launch a new iPhone SE today even though it’s an event centered on education.

I have it as well but it gets me to the Events app on the App Store. It's just to promote that app basically.

It is 2018, why do they still need to bring the whole store down is confounding. I can understand it for big events as it builds up the hype, but this is a small even that isn't even being streamed.

It's pageantry, there's no better advertising strategy than that ;) It could be security, privacy or technological reasons the event isn't being streamed, not just because it's a small announcement. It looks like at least some consumer facing changes will be forthcoming as the store is down at all?

Apple Store App:

'We've got something special in store for you.
And we can't wait for you to see it.
Please check back soon.'

Hmmm...

Apple knows that a whole lot are disappointed with the current Macbook/Pro lineup considering price and performance. I think they will announce something new in the Macbook/Pro line today, most likely a cheaper MB/Air, but it will be enouth to make people satisfied until summer.

Well if I look around me right now in my class, it's more than 50% macbooks, about 10% iPad's, 20% pen and paper and the other 20% is windows laptops. Literally zero chromebooks. I get that it's a small sample size, but I doubt it's much different in other colleges/universities.
The educational discount is aimed mostly at secondary schools, not colleges and universities. University students generally buy their own computer equipment, possibly at a 10% or so price reduction. Some universities buy computers - usually desktops - for use in some of their labs and libraries. A major university in my city buys about a 40/60 smattering of Apple and Dell desktops at bulk discount for those purposes. Since Chromebooks are 99% dependent on cloud networking for functionality, they have less of a cost benefit for universities with large student/faculty/employee populations. Chromebooks have made large headway into public school districts, which buy them at bulk discounts for use by their students. Secondary schools have considerably less network infrastructure costs than universities, as they have smaller populations. That is likely why the educational event today at the Chicago high school isn't being streamed - it would bog down whatever network they have set up at the school.

Apple has lost so much ground in education to Chromebooks, et al. Let’s see if they have any desire to catch up a bit.
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a real strategy for the education market - throwing iPads at schools isn't the full circle needed, nor is a new Pencil or a case with sparkles.

It's also worth noting that "just" iPads isn't the right approach IMO, iPads are fine as is, but kids still need to learn the whole computing thing - being locked into an ecosystem may be great from a business point of view, but it's more of an hidderance than anything in the real world (and that's outside the whole money/budget debate).

People need to stop over hyping this, it will just be cheaper ipads and macs its for students and teachers not everyone

Yeah, seems some people here can't connect the bread crumbs Apple has left us: education, hosted by a high school, "creative new ideas for teachers and students," not streamed on ATV or online.

It's no mystery Apple has gotten pummeled by Chromebooks in secondary edu. Clearly this is an endeavor to regain a toehold because this is about the time school officials start filling out requisition forms for the next school year.

Neverless, people will be bitching and moaning in a few hours that Apple only unveiled a gimped laptop, iPad or something. They really do live in their own world.

Lots of Apple fans excited to see what’s new, even though this isn’t a major keynote (like WWDC or an iPhone launch).

Meanwhile, in the other camp....

“And on that day there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

why Apple? why must you continue to do this embarrassing ridiculousness? Everybody knows you can just flip a switch to make updates and don't have to take your store down for hours..... so petty and idiotic.

I didn't realize the event was happening in Chicago!

That's awesome.

It will be an "Education only" event. Just look at Tim's latest tweet.
The store is down, which suggests some sort of consumer facing change - schools won't generally be buying via apple.com ;) even if it's just a gold colour for the X and one or two small tweaks to the lineup. Even if the event if 100% education focused (likely) there could be a separate press release upon it's conclusion. So yeah, I wouldn't be getting hyped for new MacBooks etc, but we will likely see something (personally hoping for pricing drops for countries where exchange rates have surged since the end of last year)

They should lower the prices in Europe, a TB macbook pro costs the equivalent in euros to 2300$

OMG, one more iPad - I may faint in a moment.
When will transit traffic in the Northern hemisphere resume ?

Doesn’t Europe get a longer warranty period than the standard 1 year warranty in the US? Seems like no one expects Apple to charge higher rates in countries that force their products to carry longer warranties. I’m sure you added state sales tax to the US price too, in order to do a more Apple to Apple comparison, right?

That's true! I'm all for new products but no product leaks has happened more than a golden iPhone X (rumours) or a bigger iPhone X from what I've seen. Let's wait and see :)
