I have it as well but it gets me to the Events app on the App Store. It's just to promote that app basically. This has just appeared on my Apple TV.
If I click on it it just says welcome to the App Store with a continue button which does nothing.
A placeholder for something?
It's pageantry, there's no better advertising strategy than thatIt is 2018, why do they still need to bring the whole store down is confounding. I can understand it for big events as it builds up the hype, but this is a small even that isn't even being streamed.
Apple Store App:
'We've got something special in store for you.
And we can't wait for you to see it.
Please check back soon.'
Hmmm...
The educational discount is aimed mostly at secondary schools, not colleges and universities. University students generally buy their own computer equipment, possibly at a 10% or so price reduction. Some universities buy computers - usually desktops - for use in some of their labs and libraries. A major university in my city buys about a 40/60 smattering of Apple and Dell desktops at bulk discount for those purposes. Since Chromebooks are 99% dependent on cloud networking for functionality, they have less of a cost benefit for universities with large student/faculty/employee populations. Chromebooks have made large headway into public school districts, which buy them at bulk discounts for use by their students. Secondary schools have considerably less network infrastructure costs than universities, as they have smaller populations. That is likely why the educational event today at the Chicago high school isn't being streamed - it would bog down whatever network they have set up at the school.Well if I look around me right now in my class, it's more than 50% macbooks, about 10% iPad's, 20% pen and paper and the other 20% is windows laptops. Literally zero chromebooks. I get that it's a small sample size, but I doubt it's much different in other colleges/universities.
You mean thick right? If it’s that high you can’t reach it with a knife.I can feel the hype, it's so high that I could cut it with a knife.
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a real strategy for the education market - throwing iPads at schools isn't the full circle needed, nor is a new Pencil or a case with sparkles.Apple has lost so much ground in education to Chromebooks, et al. Let’s see if they have any desire to catch up a bit.
People need to stop over hyping this, it will just be cheaper ipads and macs its for students and teachers not everyone
The store is down, which suggests some sort of consumer facing change - schools won't generally be buying via apple.comIt will be an "Education only" event. Just look at Tim's latest tweet.
OMG, one more iPad - I may faint in a moment. It's pageantry, there's no better advertising strategy than thatIt could be security, privacy or technological reasons the event isn't being streamed, not just because it's a small announcement. It looks like at least some consumer facing changes will be forthcoming as the store is down at all?
Doesn’t Europe get a longer warranty period than the standard 1 year warranty in the US? Seems like no one expects Apple to charge higher rates in countries that force their products to carry longer warranties. I’m sure you added state sales tax to the US price too, in order to do a more Apple to Apple comparison, right? They should lower the prices in Europe, a TB macbook pro costs the equivalent in euros to 2300$
That's true! I'm all for new products but no product leaks has happened more than a golden iPhone X (rumours) or a bigger iPhone X from what I've seen. Let's wait and seeThe store is down, which suggests some sort of consumer facing change - schools won't generally be buying via apple.comeven if it's just a gold colour for the X and one or two small tweaks to the lineup. Even if the event if 100% education focused (likely) there could be a separate press release upon it's conclusion. So yeah, I wouldn't be getting hyped for new MacBooks etc, but we will likely see something (personally hoping for pricing drops for countries where exchange rates have surged since the end of last year)
