This is it for me, make or break. 2011 Mac Mini on its last legs. If no update then its Windows for the first time in my life
Totally feel your pain. I personally don't think mac desktops are 'worth' it. They have too limited options/configurations/upgradability. I don't foresee them going back to easily upgraded devices anytime soon if ever, so you'll be left with whatever they offer is all you get to choose from and the mini seems like a red-headed step child at this point.

Store down - how cumbersome for such a small company.
Could it be that the guy who prematurely made Files.app visible and now needs to be electrocuted, also was the webmaster ?
You KNOW it's the marketing people thinking that it generates more buzz when they do that (I'm sure someone in their business intelligence group crunched the numbers over the opportunity loss of the store being closed for several hours).

All of these people being giddy....excitement for what???

OK I thought deleting items from the catalog had made Filemaker Pro crash...

This is exactly what makes me skeptical about the MBP update, we might see a speed bump in mid July, and WWDC might show only a new MacBook / iPad combo.

I mean they did not even remove the "new" from the store , and they could have in the last month at least, instead they left it there to drive sales....

It will disappear later tonight when the store comes online, and in mid July it will reappear ;)

No, Is it really a sign that a product release is imminent when the store is down for updating? I swear,..Einstein has nothing on this 'rumor'.

This is just getting too apocalyptic to me.
So back to domestics:
Did anyone see Bono in a taxi together with Tim ?

Apple keynotes have become so useless and lame that even listening to Donald Trump is way more interesting. What Apple is going to show? NOTHING!

"Oh... we have a revolutionary glue for the stickers that comes with the products you purchase". And that is it.

Jeepers. I understand calling in sick to watch the keynote, but the other days?

...for recovering from the inevitable post-traumatic stress when all that gets announced is a Siri speaker "coming soon" and some exciting new watch bands.

Am I still in time to post before the "why in 2017 they need to put the store down for x hours for an update?"

Timezones.

From the date of this thread, it looks like the store went down at 0000 EDT.
Here in the UK, I didn't spend the night checking the Apple Store, but maybe it went down at local midnight?

So customers can't buy an old-model (whatever they update) from the store actually on Jun 5th - which, I'm sure, keeps things simple when they offer concessions to people who ordered X days before the launch.

Yeah, Amazon may do better, but they're not generally co-ordinating high profile product rollouts across multiple countries. Also, Amazon sell more varieties of left-handed obsidian toothpick holder* alone than the total number of products on the Apple store , so they'd never be up if they didn't invest in the tech to do hot updates. Apple only do this a couple of times a year.

* Please don't fact-check this!

I heard Amazon is going to start shutting down their store for a few hours every time they add a new product.

For the past few years I've tuned into the live stream for the event. It seems that each event brings disappointment, what's going to upset the Apple Cart at this event.? I can't be bothered tuning in this year, I find the events patronising and boring.

No problem
I was trying to regain my shopping cart but it got automatically transferred to Dell.
Great user experience

This is WWDC. World Wide DEVELOPER CONFERENCE. Apparently you are not a developer. Go away. Nothing here for YOU to see. I will find the keynote very interesting.

Apple's online store has temporarily closed its virtual doors ahead of today's WWDC opening keynote at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

apple-store-down-wwdc-2017-message.jpg

When clicking on the "Buy" button for any product on Apple's website, be it a MacBook or accessories, the online store currently says "we're busy updating the Apple Store for you" and advises customers to "please check back soon."

During the keynote, Apple is expected to announce updated 12-inch MacBook and MacBook Pro models, alongside major new versions of its iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS software platforms.

Apple is also rumored to possibly debut a 10.5-inch iPad Pro and smart speaker with Siri, positioned as an Amazon Echo and Google Home competitor, but those announcements could be delayed until later this year.

Apple routinely closes its online store in the hours leading up to its special events, but that's not typically the case ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference, since the keynote is usually focused on software only.

For that reason, the store's downtime today is a good sign that new products of some kind will be announced imminently.

WWDC has been absent of major hardware announcements since 2013, when Apple unveiled redesigned models of the Mac Pro, MacBook Air, and its AirPort Time Capsule and Extreme wireless routers.

MacRumors.com will be providing news coverage and a live transcript of the WWDC opening keynote on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Twitter users can follow @MacRumorsLive for live updates.

Update: Apple's online store became functional again at approximately 5:10 a.m. Pacific Time, but only briefly as Apple fixed an earlier message that incorrectly said to check back starting at 8:01 a.m. Pacific Time.

It is down in the UK.
Though why it has to be unavailable the whole of the business day here beats me.
