That's not gonna go far as an argument in light of Samsung's internal documents about the F700 design, it's 2006 design registration, and frankly, their entire brief :

Maybe Apple's lawyers should have familiarised themselves with this little nugget :

Seriously, do Apple's lawyers even read court briefs ? This is gonna be interesting.

You mean the mock-ups done in 2008, after the iPhone launched?

samsung are pathetic.it is normal in korean Copycat culture to leach of others for profit.
Stop posting images that have been debunked multiple times. The old classic microphone icon for microphone is not something Apple invented. The gear icon for settings is not something that Apple invented. The text bubble icon for text is not something Apple invented. Pretty much all of the icons shown are obvious to represent the function of the phone. And did I see a maps comparison? Maps is software, provided by Google, I assume. Google copied Apple's map? About the only new thing that Apple did was make consumer gadgets into a premium item, and not just a functional item, and package them in a pretty box, instead of a regular cardboard box. What now? They own pretty packaging, and nobody else can make pretty packaging? Just like they own rectangles?

Have you ever seen the back of a white iPhone 3GS?

Here, let me jog your memory:

Actually, I'd better put them both up to give you a clearer view.

I assume that's a personal dig, but I'll chalk it up to your being hurt by the truth. :p

They aren't the same materials. Nor the same color. Nor the same design. So what was your point, exactly?

I have zero respect for the corrupt company Samsung is and hope Apple wins.

So I'm sure you'll be returning your iDevices out of respect for Apple since a bunch of vital components are made by a company you have no respect for and who you claim is corrupt?

How far are you willing to go to show your contempt?

There average Iphone user does not even care about about these lawsuits and neither does the average Android/Samsung user. It gets kind of boring especially when most of the posters on both sides just chime in with lame arguments and pics to testify to their absolute love of their chosen company with out any facts to really back up what they are saying.

This is so stupid. Why doesn't this happen to TV manufactures? Or any other electronic space? This is what phones look like now Apple. Get over it.

Created? Seriously?

Honestly, some of you people should Google "LG Prada". Apple did not invent a touchscreen no-physical-keyboard smartphone, and it's a given that they will all look alike.

Then LG should go after Apple. You're missing the point - protect what you've created. Perhaps Apple didn't invent the no keyboard touchscreen, but other aspects they have and they should protect them.

Just as LG should have protected theirs or go after Apple.

Of course it's going to look like i have Apple blinders on yet I don't - this is about every company protecting their own.

You never cease to spread non-sense around here. People love you here!

After the iPhone, the phones cited in the picture are one of those failures that no even talks about. You need not list those traditional phones as Samsung didn't just change their design overnight. They continued to release those phones and still do in different markets. The real picture is what Apple showed which brought in contrast the scenario in context.

Failure or not, Samsung was planning to release those phones even before the iPhone was announced, that is the point of showing the pictures. You need to drop the koolaid and grow some sense before telling others to stop spreading non-sense.

This isn't really about whether Samsung copied, or drew inspiration, from Apple as unless you are blind it's obvious they did. It's about whether they broke the rules in the process which is what the court cases will decide.

Of course Apple did the same when they came up with the iPhone and if someone thought they could take them to court over it they would. But they haven't, so either Apple didn't break the rules or they paid out to settle.

Apple took a massive risk with the iPhone. If it had flopped they would have lost hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars in the process. If companies aren't allowed to reap the reward from things like this there is less incentive for them to innovate in the future.

Not all smart phones or tablets have to look the same. Look at the Nokia Lumia, it doesn't look remotely similar to the iPhone to me. Same with the os, the new Windows Metro interface shows not all mobile os's have to look the same. There were plenty of other ways for Samsung design to go, but they were lazy and decided to ride on Apple's hard work instead.

Sorry you lost me when you implied Apple hasn't been able to reap the rewards from the iPhone and iPad ;)

ETA: By the way - these cases have very little to do with what they are on the surface. At the end of the day - this is about Apple having (for the first real time) stiff competition (Samsung primarily) and Apple wanting to bury Samsung however they can to remove them as competition. Apple has gambled (this time) on trade dress. Next time it will be something else. The interesting thing to note is that when you sue Apple for something - they are responsible for the hardware and software. When you sue someone like Samsung - it's different because you have to differentiate.

Some of the images posted have nothing to do with Samsung copying. It has to do with Android an software. Somehow, though - these seem to get intertwined in these discussions as if it's all the same. It isn't.

I have a perfect vision and what I see is an evolution in design that Samsung has been using before the announcement of the iPhone.

Attack of the Clones

Less interested in the slide show Apple's showing in the pre-trial and more interested in the documents written by Samsung execs talking about the "crisis of design."

the thing is...apple changed everything. they were the pioneers into the touchscreen industry. before them, touchscreens were not utilized. so should they get credit...yes. but at the end of the day, they were innovators that revolutionized the industry creating a new standard and shifting the status quo. so obviously design shifts after the iphone was released.

in the 1970s, apple copied the Xerox machine for the GUI...which once again revolutionized the PC industry. This is no different. Windows/MacOS/Linux all have windows, menu bars, icons..

Apple didn't innovative. The technology was already there but they packaged and presented the best. Most do not know LG was the first to release a touch screen.

These law suits have nothing to with protecting ideas and designs. It has everything to do with apple losing money to Samsung. I don't know anyone who confuses an iPhone with a Samsung phone .

I think Apple is suing for it's designs immediately post-iphone. In the past year, Samsung has done a much better job separating it's phones from Apples. But, if you look at Samsung's phones and tablets that came out right after Apple's originals, they are essentially 1:1 copies.

Maybe LG released the touchscreen technology first, but, why did Apple own the patents to their touch screen technologies? Why would LG innovate and not patent it? The evidence is murky at best.

Did you see the Galaxy tab 10.1 after the iPad was released? It was a joke. Pretty much identical to the iPad in every way. In fact, Samsung's first tablet was a failure in their eyes, and they said as much after the iPad 2 came out. Then, they revised their design, and did you see their next tablet? Identical.

It's a business, and I understand that. But, Samsung never had any problems blatently copying. They're starting to move away from it, but, its foolish to not see how Samsung stole Apple's design to piggyback off of their momentum.

This lawsuit is full of holes.

Obviously companies copied Apple's revolutionary design. Thats what competition does.

Do you know how LONG this form would have to be to outline everything Apple has copied over the years?

This is how technology advances! Competition works off each others to make strives in technology.

I ****ing hate Apple. Their products are nice yes but their attitude is a ignorant as the hipsters who buy most of their products.

I hope Apple gets every penny they want out of this. It'd be funny watching Apple buy components from Samsung for free, basically. :D

You're kidding, right? Shiny white plastic. Rounded corners. Chrome-ringed camera lens, top left corner. Logo top center. Yeah, I can see how you might miss the, er, similarities. Or did you not actually look at the pictures before responding?

Google's mind control powers have become impressive indeed - the vociferous defense of a Korean conglomerate knock-off artist is baffling.

... what about all the things Apple "borrowed" from Braun? Like their entire catalog?

Your love for Apple is also baffling.

But doesn't Windows have a universal search, and most desktop and mobile OS's have some sort of universal search? I believe they do.

I think he was referring to Spotlight, which works completely different than other search functions. It's my favorite function on OS X and iOS.
