the thing is...apple changed everything. they were the pioneers into the touchscreen industry. before them, touchscreens were not utilized. so should they get credit...yes. but at the end of the day, they were innovators that revolutionized the industry creating a new standard and shifting the status quo. so obviously design shifts after the iphone was released.

in the 1970s, apple copied the Xerox machine for the GUI...which once again revolutionized the PC industry. This is no different. Windows/MacOS/Linux all have windows, menu bars, icons..

Huh? They weren't pioneers in the touch screen industry. They assembled a great product.

Touchscreens were utilized for YEARS before Apple.

The industry was already shifting.

Your distorted view of history is baffling.

If companies aren't allowed to reap the reward from things like this there is less incentive for them to innovate in the future.

With this suit Apple is trying to spare itself from having to innovate any further. If Apple has it's way, they will not have to make any changes to iPhone ever. This design is the only one that has won in the market, and they will own it. Game over. End of innovation. All that is left to do is for everyone to hand their money over to Apple and bow down to the supreme ruler of the phone market.

Is that what you want?

I ****ing hate Apple.

Which so brilliantly explains your (and so many others') presence on this site.

I mean, I hate Microsoft, so I spend my hours poring over their user forums, talking about how much I hate them and making fun of their customers. Oh wait, no I don't, because that would be a pointless waste of my, and everyone else's, time.

You're aware this is a discussion forum, right? You don't HAVE to be pro-Apple. Just most people are.

And someone can express frustration about a company on a given topic and that doesn't mean they shouldn't be on this forum and/or express their opinions.

Well, they can't openly accuse Eric Schmidt of this because they don't have proof and therefore it's slander. However, the timeline of events fits in perfectly.

2006: Android prototype

Image

Clearly here they were imitating Blackberry.

Jan. 2007: Apple unveils the iPhone

Early 2007: Eric Schmidt is given a prototype iPhone to use and it is not to be used by anyone else

Feb. 25: Valleywag posts an article about how Schmidt's mistrss was bloggin about using an iPhone

http://gizmodo.com/5479684/google-c...rototype-iphones-and-steve-stoned-jesuit-jobs

Nov 2007: Google demoes a touchscreen Android device and it is ROUGH. The scrolling isn't fluid and multitouch performance is lousy. It looks like it was cobbled together in a couple of months

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FJHYqE0RDg

Now, the original Android prototype was never released. I find it hard to believe that Google was working on this without:

Thanks for posting this. Obviously Schmidt stole the iPhone design.

The people at Google, Samsgung, etc were all caught in their Blackberry design/keyboard phases when Apple threw them for a loop with their iPhone.

And by that you are saying Apple is incorruptible, squeaky clean and has nothing to hide in its closet in terms of patent abuse, use without compensation and outright stealing of technology knowing that a smaller company does not have $100 Billion plus in cash reserves to fight them. If so then sure your right.

No, I did not say that. Do not put words in my mouth.

I do know enough about both companies to make up my own mind.

Samsung is the bottom of the barrel.

f700 did come out eventualy. Either way. the design did exist, and that is enough for Samsung to defend their position. That's the point, stop going around it.

Oh. Then lets wait for at least Samsung to present it + Judge to say something about it?

Fancy that you didn't quote the 2nd part of my post where I talk about another picture posted against Samsung. Fancy.

And someone can express frustration about a company on a given topic and that doesn't mean they shouldn't be on this forum and/or express their opinions.

Sure. And I hate the Lakers. Man, I really should find a Lakers site where I can spend my day talking about how lame the Lakers are and how moronic their fans are. Hey, just expressing my opinion!

On most forums they would call this trolling. At MacRumors, hey, it's just more page hits!

Why spend time on a site dedicated to a company that you don't really like?

Oh, that's not a rhetorical question: I'm really asking you that, if you get my point.

Perhaps because I use their products via work and at home (as well as many other competing manufacturing products)? But that does not mean I have a blind loyalty to Apple as you seemingly do:rolleyes:

Not to mention, the community here is great....aside from the very pro Apple folk and a range of discussion topics are available (many not even Apple related! SHOCKING!)

Natural law states that everything is obvious once Apple does it.

Hmm source?

That's exactly right. From there Samsung went on a reverse engineering mission, not just the phone, the packaging, accessories - everything.

Now Apple will make them pay dearly in court - wait and see :D

That's not natural law. Not even close. You have a very narrow tech view since you ignore everything non-Apple.

Thanks for posting this. Obviously Schmidt stole the iPhone design.

Obviously? Right. That's why Schmidt's been sued for something like abusing an NDA, right?

The second you accuse Schmidt of stealing the iPhone design (p.s. I assume you mean iOS since Android is software and not hardware) you also set Apple, Steve Jobs and the Board members as idiots for bringing him on. Which they weren't.

But keep on living the Oliver Stone movie you adore.

Great another thread were we'll have 500 posts about how "Apple did X" first and "so and so copied Apple", and then the "oh no they didn't!'' replies. Hasn't this been discussed here to death?

He means multi touch!!!!!!! SMH

I think the evidence is clear enough to see how ridiculous This denile from Samsung really is.

First you'd have to show me that every post of his is anti-Apple.

Next you'd have to show me your season Laker tickets - you know - so that your comparison is actually legit.

Next you'd have to show me how he has said Apple fans are moronic.

Some could argue that your type of posts are exactly the same in the opposite extreme. That your posts incite - are flame bait.

Those "after" iPhone Samsung phones are exactly like iPhones. Hard to distinguish...

don't say that too loud! There are a lot of Sammy supporters on this forum saying it doesn't look like the iPhone

All those deviants out there that think stealing design / art is fine make me sick. As an artist I will gladly take you down if you steal any of my stuff.

Stop posting images that have been debunked multiple times. The old classic microphone icon for microphone is not something Apple invented. The gear icon for settings is not something that Apple invented. The text bubble icon for text is not something Apple invented. Pretty much all of the icons shown are obvious to represent the function of the phone. And did I see a maps comparison? Maps is software, provided by Google, I assume. Google copied Apple's map? About the only new thing that Apple did was make consumer gadgets into a premium item, and not just a functional item, and package them in a pretty box, instead of a regular cardboard box. What now? They own pretty packaging, and nobody else can make pretty packaging? Just like they own rectangles?

Actually, the Maps Icon is Trademarked by Apple, http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/apple_trademarks_280_for_ios_maps_icon/ Also, Apple has trademarked all of their iOS Icons in both low-resolution and hi-resolution.

But keep on living the Oliver Stone movie you adore.

They were VERY stupid for bringing him on...and this is why this exactly happened...a competitor (and Google was ALWAYS a competitor to Apple) sat on your board and you paid the price.

The second you accuse Schmidt of stealing the iPhone design (p.s. I assume you mean iOS since Android is software and not hardware) you also set Apple, Steve Jobs and the Board members as idiots for bringing him on. Which they weren't.

He stole both. Not only the iOS look but also the hardware look which he passed on to various handset makers.

You know if everyone sued for similarities. I would not be able to get cheap cereal. You know the store brand that looks and taste exactly the same as the name brand stuff. I couldn't buy that.

The only think that is similar about the phones in a touch screen. But that's what people want. I'm sorry but if Samsung didn't change it would have lost it's phone. They didn't make the Os either on there devices, that was Android, or ie google.

STOP THIS RIDICULOUS SUIT!

wow it really annoys me, the fact that there are a lot of idiots defending samsung, LOL, i hope they lose so bad.

samsung are just copy cats, i just wish they get what they deserve.

the most ironical and surprising part is that samsung copies and then comes talking crap as if they invented stuff and start accusing the inventors and pioneers of copying. wow, seriously.

I could list a 100 things that look similar in almost every industry.
They never go lawsuit happy on each other.
The photos that are shown are examples of phone evolution.
Look at landline phones. They all evolved over time to look similar, same with cars, washing machines, refridgerators, ovens, ranges, TV's, Computers, etc, etc....

Apple needs to focus on innovation and stop these dumb lawsuits.
If you spent half the time you spent on these lawsuits on improving on the iPhone, you would not have to worry about the competition.

Yeh and have Samsung copy everything else in the future? I am sure you would be pissed off too if someone was leaching off your hard work and claiming they have the better product. You know the reason why Galaxy S3 looks different? Because the 4S design didn't change from the 4 so they had nothing to trace off!

Do we start being afraid of apple entering other markets?
Imagine apple making a Tv and then patent everything and start suing samsung among others coz their tv looks like apples......

Apple car, apple suing all other manufacturers for using 4 wheels  .
There is one reason and one reason only that apple is suing samsung and that is because samsung is their primal rival in profits, the SGIII has sold more than 10m phones all ready and thats just one phone over the many samsung has, apple will make one phone for a year and thats just it all the profits come from it.

You don't think Apple copies? Ignorance is bliss

I can see Apple's point that the post-iPhone Samsung phones are identical to the iPhone's design, but these lawsuits are getting ridiculous and making Apple look bad in a lot of people's eyes. I don't get why Apple is focusing on Samsung so much, pretty much every smartphone out there now is an iPhone ripoff.

because Samsung is their number one competitor and Samsung take the piss out of Apple in their ads. IMO using a stolen product and claiming it is better than the person you stole it from is just shameful. Almost as shameful as admitting it in this article. Samsung are lazy tracers.
