Sheesh – these are some exquisitely ugly devices…

I agree but some like them and if the dude is going to college and going to need to run Linux he'll have the support he needs for all 4 years there.

There are times when pretty doesn't matter

Why would anyone be happy with a Skylake MBP when it will be a year-old CPU and Kaby Lake would already be hitting the market?

Honestly, if Kaby Lake doesn't make it onto the next rMBP, I may go for a Surface.

I totaly agree. If they release macbook pros at the end of the year With skylake - already 1 year old - i would be pissed as f***.

They should hold of 1 - 2 months so they could get Kaby, the New polaris and New SSD.

And for everyone saying "there will always be New Tech". YES, but not within 1-2 months of Reach. They should wait for kaby and do this release right. If not, they should have release a New macbook pro With skylake earlier this year With redesign once kaby and polaris was out.

I've been waiting and waiting for them to release sensible hard drive sizes (SSD) as standard. 256GB in a £1500 mbp is hilarious. 500GB in a £2000 mbp isn't even funny.
I'm still using my late 2011 i7 mbp which I upgraded with a 512GB SSD plus 1TB spinner HD and 16GB ram. It's lightning fast. Really couldn't ask for more, but it would be nice to one day experience retina. That's it.. retina.
With every new mbp that has been released I have seen nothing that makes me want to buy. I mean, even the retina's came with woefull gfx cards to support them.
Apple cut out essentials every year so people go for the BTO options. Penny pinching bean counters getting in that extra profit every year... Well, I'd like to buy a new mbp please so hurry up and release one that doesn't make me feel completely ripped off (yes I know mbp's were always expensive but I haven't seen a worthwhile "update" in years without having to spend well over £2000 with BTO rip off's).

Dell, HP and Asus, all producing some really nice designs that have leap frogged apple. Is it any wonder that Mac sales have decreased. They've not done anything appreciable with the Macintosh line for some time, heck the 15" MBP is still on the Haswell chipset and yet they're charging a premium.

I love the Mac designs, and my iMac is a great computer, don't get me wrong, but what we need is more bold designs - translation - not a thinner computer.

I've been waiting for a Skylake MBP for over a year.

What is it taking Apple such a long time, they are losing billions in revenue by not updating

Omg. You are brilliant

I think the general trend is that there will be less and less updates to the Mac lines from now on. First of all, CPU upgrades are happening less frequently than before, and moreover, each increment is bringing less performance increase now. Hence, even if Apple updates their Mac lines with each CPU refresh from Intel, people will still skip more than before and upgrade less. We get like 5% speed increase with a new line of CPU's from Intel, which is quite irrelevant.

What Apple needs to do is to reduce prices maybe 6 months after the release of a new Mac.

i cant believe 4 million people buy 400 days old machine, for over 1000$, it is absolute waste of money

People need the computers to work and study and they don't wait for newer ones. I dont understand why you can't believe that? If you are in a hurry and need it you just purchase one. Older or not Apple they just keep selling. However we all hope they release a new macbook soon

Yea it's really disappointing to see the Mac being neglected for so long in terms of hardware updates. The Mac Pro and Mac Mini basically might as well go into their 'legacy' category..

If I see a Rose Gold MacBook Pro or iMac released this year then my blood will curl..

The Macbook Air remains a very affordable laptop, especially after the education discount and the free bundled beats headphones.

It's actually a pretty good deal if you aren't really particular about having the latest and greatest.

To be fair - there is a huge section of the general public that doesn't really benefit from faster machines. For many - what's currently available - Mac or PC is overkill if all they are doing is surfing the net and using Office or similar software.

That being said - Apple not releasing new hardware shows incredible moxy and/or a lack of desire to be truly competitive, or something else...

Apple's competitors are releasing new machines with every iteration and their sales have increased. I think Apple cannot afford to continue business as usual

I thought the PC business was on decline.

I think I was waiting for this at least a year ago.
When it finally comes out, this thing better shoot sparks out its butt.

And they better be figurative sparks.

I just bought a 13" MBA. My purchase will help bring up the stats in the 2nd qtr lol
I had an 11" but gave it to my wife. Yeah, I should have waited, but couldn't - besides the MBA is a great computer. And the Macbook isn't any good unless you add a hub. Why get a laptop if you gotta hang stuff off the side?

Perhaps, but a number of Apple's competitors are seeing increases, as per the graph in the first post

Clearly HP, Dell and ASUS are doing something right and Apple, relying on old technology and high prices is doing something wrong

So the rest of the competitors, who did not see an increase in sales, what are they doing wrong?

Building a palace.
Yep, Apple's true focus seems to be in building a new headquarters. This seems to be being done to reflect the new direction that the company is headed in. They say it is in the shape of a spaceship, unfortunately, the circular building looks more like a gigantic number zero.

For most of that year they've been waiting for Intel to release the Skylake chips with equivalent Iris/Iris Pro graphics to the chips used in the current 13" and 15" models. If you look at (say) the Dell XPS-13 and XPS-15, the 13" is slightly let down by the non-Iris graphics and the 15" relies on a nothing-to-write-home-about discrete GPU (which also hits battery life).

AFAIK that excuse is wearing thin now, but it is partly Intel's fault that they can't seem to finish rolling out all the variations of the current CPU family before the hype for the next release starts. There's also dumb Intel decisions like Thunderbolt 3 not supporting DisplayPort 1.3 so it needs to use MST for 5k.

However, Cook really should have had something to say about Macs at WWDC - even if a pre-announcement hit sales for a few months that would have been because people were waiting whereas now people are wondering if Apple have given up on Macs, and if they switch to PC they probably won't switch back.

I have a brand new Skylake i7 based ThinkPad T460s ultrabook sitting on my desk. It's as thin & light as a 13" MacBook Pro and I can upgrade the RAM/SSD to whatever I damn well want as the bottom plate unscrews with ease.

Apple needs to stop being so damn greedy and think about what users need and are asking for. If the iPhone 7 bombs, then perhaps they will get back to basics and start looking after the customers who made Apple what it is today.
