It’s fair in that you have an option where to pay. That YouTube (if these figures are even accurate) decides their pricing based on the platform is no different than the way physical businesses operate. And then again, if the price to value ratio is not there don’t purchase the products.
Mate are you joking
That is the price on the app
And on the website on chrome it’s 11.99
Stop dismissing what I’m saying in regards of price. It’s not worth $5 dollars more to subscribe through the App Store.
It’s shameless to overcharge people like that.

The flip side is stop making it more than it is. The price is the price and if the price isn’t good for a customer then the customer won’t buy it.

It’s the dev that sets the price. Would you feel better if apple charged $0 but the price was still $16.99 and the website was $11.99? Would you still complain?

You’re entitled to your opinion, but shameless no, overcharge no. Blame YouTube for not absorbing the fee, like everybody wants apple to do.

Right but there wouldn’t be that much of a difference in price if Apple lowered their fee in price point.

I agree YouTube are shameless, but what do you know, YouTube are a greedy company.

We could outlaw discriminatory pricing practices so that YouTube cannot sell for different prices based on how/where the consumer wants to purchase. This is already the case in Europe where retailers cannot charge different prices based on whether the customer wants to pay by cash or card.

But ultimately it’s YouTube who have decided to charge more on iOS. They could stop being so greedy and charge the same as they do on their website.

It’s not about YouTube being shameless it’s about if you pay for it through iOS you are paying a premium because of apples 30% in app purchase charge

YouTube could chose to charge the same price on iOS as it does on its website. It chooses not to, presumably because they are being greedy.

So your logic is this YouTube value their product at let’s say 11.99 right
But if they charge that price on iOS because of inapp purchase then YouTube would make about 6.99 on iOS because of inapp purchase
That is the point that these companies are making

That’s a YouTube problem, not a me problem. All I see is YouTube trying to gouge iOS customers by charging them more for the same service. YouTube need to work out their finances so they don’t have this discriminatory pricing. At the minute it’s a bad look for YouTube.

Mate they are having to charge extra on iOS because of apples additional 30% charge

They don’t have to. They are choosing too. And the result is that it makes YouTube look greedy.

P.S. I heartily recommend Stop the Madness and Sponsor Block. Makes YouTube premium free effectively. Let’s drain the greedy bastard’s resources until they change their ways.

Think about it so a company values a product at a certain price point say 10.00 every else & if they charge that on iOS in app purchase they would make about 6.00 because of inapp purchases & that’s the problem

So the answer is charge 12? Seems pretty straightforward to me!

What are you on about greedy ways
They are having to make it dearer on iOS inapp because of apples inapp purchases or it devalues the product

YouTube are trying to pass the cost of shopping on iOS onto the consumer instead of swallowing it themselves. That indicates they value their profits more than they value the customer.

That’s because you’re not getting it.
The argument is if a company sets a price for a product at say 12.00 then on iOS they are losing about 4.00 in value because of the 30% charge that’s the point it’s not difficult
That is the argument

That’s the cost of doing business. It’s like YouTube has to pay for internet bandwidth, staff, infrastructure, it’s a cost of doing business. YouTube have to take all the costs of doing business and come up with a price for their product based on that.

No it’s showing you how much additional they have to charge on iOS hence why Netflix no longer do it but you can subscribe to them through other platforms
That’s why Spotify have removed it because they are forced to change more for their products on iOS because of the 30% in app purchase

Any cost they have to pay to be on iOS should be spread amongst all customers so that users are not discriminated against based on how they want to purchase the product. It gives these companies a bad name by charging different amounts for the same product.

That’s why I said we maybe need a law to outlaw this price discrimination that YouTube et al are engaging in. We’ve already outlawed price discrimination based on payment method so this would just be a slight extension of that.

Yes & they value their product about 12.00
That is why it’s dearer on iOS because of the additional cost that Apple is inflicting on said company

The 12.00 should already include cost of doing business on iOS. YouTube then charging more to iOS customers is just greed because the 12.00 already includes that cost.

It’s very simple to grasp if they keep the product the same price on iOS as on the website then on iOS they a losing money on said product because they have to pay Apple 30% inapp purchase that’s the argument

So they haven’t priced their product properly then. Sounds like the price needs to go up for everyone if YouTube can’t cover their costs at the price they are selling at.

If they are losing money selling the product at 12.00 then they need to increase the price.
