The problem is, there is no reason for the competition to ditch the headphone jack, unlike apple and the MFI program, they will not make money. hence why there will never be a USB-C port on iPhone, it's about $$$$, always has been, apple always got a cut from accessories made for iPhone. Difference now, apple is forcing you to use the money spinner.

Well, we disagree...

But that's all the more reason to get that competing phone and be happy Sanyo/Samsung/Acer/Etc will have your back for the next 100 years of analog phone jack bliss.

So to do a very simple thing, you either have to buy the $40 Belkin adapter and then also buy an additional adapter to go from auxiliary jack to lightning, the $49 charging dock, or the $159 easily losable AirPods.

Courage!
Or a $15 pair of BT earbuds at Staples.

Huh? Why would you need to get another pair of Bluetooth headphones?

Use the headphones you have. You don't need to BUY the adapter because it's included FREE with the phone. It's essentially a 2" cable. I suspect you'll have no trouble accommodating this:

That's actually fine, I don't mind it as a solution.

My issue the 6S has a quality DAC built in, what quality do you think is inside a $9 adapter, given apples profit margin.

I'm going to get one to test with the 6S, but my assumption it's cheap and crap, and using quality headphones, the 6S using the same media, sounds superior, and that is the problem. The 6S out of the box, has superior audio.

this may be new to some people but the phone does come with speakers built in. heck they even added a second speaker on this model. you can listen and charge till your little heart is content that way.

Yeah one shouldn't have to sacrifice the 3.5mm jack to get new features(camera, taptic home button, etc...). This reeks of when Apple tried to shove a 1-button mouse down our throats.

will this silence the whining? no. of course not. there must always be whining.

there was also a BT clip posted to MR not long ago that had a 3.5mm jack in it, i believe. simple solution for older cars (or a replacement head unit, of course).

i got one of those bluetooth-clips from sony (mw600 - btw. it sounds just as good/bad as any $150 bluetooth-headphones) - guess what: you can't charge and use it at the same time. :D

Actually yes the headphone jack just barely fits in to my belt pouch as it is. Having this extra 2" of crap means that I probably can't even close the pouch fully anymore. It's just a bad solution to a problem nobody had!

Hard to believe you can't accommodate that tiny bit of extra volume. What you're saying is you can't pull an extra 2" of existing headphone cable out of your belt?

I guess if your current headphones had a cable that happened to be 2" longer you'd be hosed.

It's actually a great solution. Tiny, works well, and included for FREE with every phone. Extras are $9.

Yeah and how does that work for listening to audio at work or the gym?

No it's not the length of the cable, it's the adapter thing. Much larger than an audio jack. Like several times larger.

The DAC is better in the SE/6S? I haven't been able to find that info. Not that I don't believe you, just curious...

iPhones have traditionally had good DACs, yes I admit I am assuming, and that is based on the adapter costing $9, that is not a good DAC.

I will be buying one though to test on the 6S side by side, using some good headphones .

It's also interesting to note that, based on what's inside the iPhone 7 box, even if you bought the Lightning Dock you cannot listen to the included headphones and charge at the same time.

Just like the external CD/DVD drive everyone uses on their new MacBook/MacBook pros

really - who still uses optical media?
(just pulling your leg - i'm working in video production, and i get the occasional 60+ years client who wants a dvd - never a bluray - so i borrow my neighbours external bluray-burner on occasion)

Ah the two headed snake shipped in an Apple box.

Allow me to note that Apple is still selling the 6S if you want a phone with a headphone jack. They even lowered the price, and didn't gimp the capacity like they have in the past to existing models when a new phone comes out.

So let me get this straight - we now have to carry around an adaptor AND a dock with us, just in case we might want to charge and listen to our iPhone at the same time. What about in car use?

There are all kinds of "just in case" scenarios we could whine about. So let me get this straight, if I want to charge my iPhone on the go I have to bring a lightning cable and a USB charger? Yes you "have to carry around an adaptor" for something very few people do now and will do in the future. Let the tears flow!

I actually use the phone speakers all day long at work.

the gym your not going to be charging your phone anyways so it doesn't matter.

No. What Phil want for us is to buy one adapter for home, one for work, and one for car.

Don't buy the iPhone 7
Use the adapter that's FREE

It's a cable. You can make it smaller. Fold it back on itself, make a right angle, whatever. Don't give up. Ask a grade school kid down the block for help. Most humans are good at problem solving. Jeeezzz...

Really sounds like you are just looking for ways to not have a solution.

They didn't add any additional speakers but reused the existing call speaker. Only issue is the sound is unbalanced since bottom speaker is side firing while call speaker is front firing.
