lol.... a dock as an alternative solution... not on my watch...

I prefer the Belkin... at least u can still hold your phone

I listen while charging all day at work. I have bluetooth in my car but in 2016, the kia soul still has crumby bluetooth quality. i have some lg tones and the quality there sucks as well. I use aux in my car while charging. I could play though usb with the lightning cord, but i dont want to have to mess with the radio and phone syncing with one another. I just want to play from my phone as a standalone device like i have for the last 6 years.

I'm not railing on the new phone however, I was waiting to see the 7 before I upgraded from my 6s to the SE and now i am completely confident in that purchase.

Not taking a dig but the problem sounds like the audio system in your car. Why should Apple design their product around the audio system options available in Kias? The Bluetooth audio sounds just fine in my car and in the car I had before that. Technology isn't always about appealing to the lowest common denominator.

What they had before was a slower iPhone with half as much storage. So they are paying $50 for a lot more than they had before.

I thought they were paying $50 for less than they had before, because as keeps being said, the earPods included with the iPhone 7 do not work with this dock suggestion.

I'm on the it is insane that they are not including the airPods bandwagon. And I hate the earPods. Hmmm maybe that is part of it: include the cheaper option of what most people are not going to like.

I have had every single iPhone since the 4 and I never got a stand included with it.
Every single phone since the 4 is not really all the phones... It was the 4th of 9 generations before the announcement on Wednesday. The early models came with a dock / charging stand in the box and there was a similar outcry when they first stopped including it. Somehow the world kept turning and the phones sold in ever greater numbers.

I regularly listen on wired headphones while charging my 6S (thanks to Overcast eating the battery) but I have a dock I could use if I had to and I have bluetooth headphones already so there are options.

Right because users aren't allowed to complain about a feature that has been in iPhone since first generation. If people are silent then change won't happen.
Pretty sure being vocal online about it won't change anything either. The way to get change in this situation is to vote with the only thing Apple cares about. Money. So, you know. Buy a different phone. Don't buy the iPhone 7. When asked why, say it's because there wasn't a headphone jack. Then move on with your life. That's the only voice Apple is going to hear.

I embrace the future, so I'll be using AirPods when they're available, but I recognize this won't work for everyone.

Do you really think Airpods are the future?

Are you really embracing the idea that you'll have to buy new pairs or pay apple to replace the batteries in them every 12-24 months as the battery life dips from 5 hours (probably less IRL) to 2-3?

Are you going to buy a new computer so your new $150 earphones work with it, or just go with having separate earphones for computer/iPad and iPhone?

That's not entirely true. The top model is nearly £1k UK that's up £120 from last year.

It's stupid money for a phone who ever makes it sorry

Well, they did create a new adapter for headphones so they could have made one with double lightning ports to support charging and headphones together.

Never going to happen. Is basically building a product to advertise their mistake.

Everything in the box should work without spending additional cash. This is a first for Apple. A very bad first and they should be hammered for it.

Bluetooth headphones - bluetooth aux adapter for your car. Charge and listen in both car and everywhere else. DONE.

I'm less concerned about listening to music & charging, than I am with sitting on a conference call in an airport and not being able to charge while I'm on the call, unless I put it on speaker phone for everyone to hear.

Where you see a problem, I see an opportunity.

If you're the boss:

Listen everyone, my phone is about to die so let's make this short. Just hit the important stuff without the fluff.

If you're the employee:

Listen everyone, my phone is about to die so let me give a quick summary and I'll hit Bob up for his meeting notes.

Done and done. I'm looking forward to the delivery of my brand new iPhone 6S tomorrow. It will be a nice upgrade from my 5.

will this silence the whining? no. of course not. there must always be whining.

there was also a BT clip posted to MR not long ago that had a 3.5mm jack in it, i believe. simple solution for older cars (or a replacement head unit, of course).

I actually just posted this same thing in another thread where the whiners were out of control.

Lucky me I can't imagine an scenario where I would need to charge the phone and listen to music with headphones at the same time.

College dorm, for starters. Like you, I can't imagine a scenario for myself personally, but plenty of other people have different realities. Someone will surely come out with a Y adapter. I can understand why Apple didn't include it. It will be clunky and most people won't need that functionality. A simple sleek dongle is needed for this transition. Next iPhone won't include it. It'll become an accessory purchase, just like a Y adapter for listening while charging.
