Why does all of this sound like a giant excuse for mediocrity? The more I hear apple execs talk the more I dislike them and the company. What a bunch of pompous windbags. Is anyone really buying all this nonsense? I mean can you really not crack up hearing Jony Ive gush on about such a retarded feature such as the touch bar in the product video, like its so magical!. When you compare it to the Microsoft Surface Studio and the direction they went with that this just feels really lame. I can't believe I'm even making this comparison. Its like Steve left and the clowns are running the show. Can we just give Cook his severance pay and move on? -I feel better now.

But this is the Pro line... the F-keys are not "outdated" in many professional contexts... and now you can't touch-type them.

Combined with the port stripping, the storage, and the last gen tech, and the sacrifices for "slimness", it's like Apple is now defining a professional as someone who blogs from a cafe, rather than coders/architects/engineers in offices.
Wouldn't a real professional coder/architect/engineer working exclusively in an office be more comfortable with a workstation?

The MBP is for the professional coder/architect/engineer who sometimes (or often) wants to work in a cafe, or in the park, or at home on the balcony. So portability is important.

lol!! Esc is quite underrated, I wonder how annoying it'll be having to look constantly at the oled panel in order to find and press it all day long...

I'm more concerned about the total lack of a physical power button *and* no removable battery.

I haven't owned a laptop in 15 years - Apple and multiple PC brands - that didn't need a hard reset once in a while when I'm pushing it to the edge when rendering or similar.

Do you just have to wait 10 hours for the battery to drain in those circumstances?

I understand what he's saying. But, if the price is too high, only a few will buy. I for one won't be picking it up, even though I had planned to do so. I simply cannot justify the price.
I have work money that I have to spend by end of year and is essentially free to me. I was going to use it to buy the new Mac and now...not so sure. It's just dang expensive.

I think everyone of us who've come here to bitch about appl, myself included, should just bail this lame company. A dock at the bottom of the screen is definitely not worth all the negative disappointment they spoon out (or don't spoon out) year after year after year. It's always a let down. Every damn time. The dream is over. Apl is what it is. The enthusiasm is gone. All this negativity is toxic to all of us. This last event, really was Apls defining moment. They've had 5 years. 5 years of empty promises. I've lost hope.
I feel ya on the laptop side but I see so much potential with the iPhone and the iPad even the watch ⌚️ it today was lame ass ***. They can keep that toolbar **** and still will cost me 1400 for the base model wtf

Yeah but that's not how it is now. You can get an XPS 15" for $1700 with similar specs and performance. Apple needs a Time Machine to get to the current year if your point is the old stuff cost a shed load.
So get one. If you don't think the Apple ecosystem is worth it, get the system that appeals to you most.

Portability is important... but we had that with the last gen model, without these sacrifices.

At least Apple is treating all professionals with the same level of priority:
  • For those who use keyboards such as authors, etc, they have included a crappy keyboard.
  • For those who need lots of connectivity such as those who need to use flashdrives for sharing files they have stripped away the ports.
  • For those who are road warriors that need to sync their iPhone to their computer they have made sure that the few ports it does have are incompatible with their own devices.
  • For those who need a powerful computer such as video producers they have included low graphics processing capability.
  • And for those who are running small businesses (or have this really unusual thing called a "budget" to consider) they have made it ridiculously expensive.

It is nice to see such equal treatment towards the intended end user.

But hey, it does have an OLED strip.

Many customers are unhappy with the high price of the new MacBook Pro models, something Schiller addressed in the interview. An entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar costs $1,799, a full $500 more than previous-generation models, and 15-inch models start at $2,399. Schiller says Apple cares about price, but has to design for experience rather than cost.T...

Along with a Touch Bar, Apple's new MacBook Pros feature upgraded processors, new graphics capabilities, improved displays, faster SSDs, Thunderbolt 3 support, and 10 hour battery life.

Customers are unhappy with the high price and the fact you are pushing everyone to buy several chords or adapters if you still want to charge your iPhone or iPad (Apple): how much is going to cost to get a new Macbook Pro, adapters included?
I'm not ready to change everything for a touch bar. Why are you eliminating the MagSafe?! And the SD card reader?! What about adapters for the external peripherals I have?
Apple: don't you have enough money?!
I used to love :apple: , not lately.
P.s. Thanks for not taking out the headphone port :p

It's not too late to pick up the last-gen model. You can probably get a good deal on it.

There would be sacrifices there, too, such as not being able to use it with one (or two!) of the new 5K monitors, but if you don't need to do that, it seems like the way to go.

How about we start with the basics guys. My 2011 MBP had 16 Gigs of Ram. Now we arrive at almost 2017 and we're still at 16 Gigs of Ram? Finally we get to a 4gb video card. I can get an 8gb on an 17" HP zbook since early this year. Still no 17" MBP and we don't have the latest processors on any of these and no Xeon available. Even if we got half of this I might be appeased.

I'm hoping... well praying... that the "updated" keyboard is not like the Macbook version. If it is... dear god, no.

The old Pro keyboard is lovely! It's a sweetspot that's rare to find - even rarer than a good trackpad, now Windows trackpads are vastly improved. The butterfly keyboard is like bruising your fingertips on bubblewrap.

I'm a pretty big apple fanboy and I'm honestly tempted to sell all of my apple stuff after this keynote. Besides my iPhone. I hate android.

The touch bar seems like a big joke. It doesn't even replace the Mac OS dock.

Why Not! it will be easy to program an app and code the desire apps who wants to launch on this touch bar. So with a CTRL-Key you call the app who is show a dock made by your own.

I already have one. Also apparently the last Air to be made.

i'd like to have one in four years too.... but all the signs are pointing to that not being possible, because Apple seem to have swerved off the highway into the desert, while 2 or 3 PC manufacturers are charging full steam ahead.

Hey Phil, remember "It just works."

Funny, how a Mac Mini supplied quite the "experience" without the upper crusty price point.
Well, as far as the Mini goes, first they crippled it and now I believe they killed it.

It's funny how any factual anti-Apple statement around here gets replied to with "Well then buy the competition" a polite way of basically saying, "shut up and get lost" I suppose.

I'm happy with my MacBook Pro I bought last year, ya know the one with all the useful ports and such. When it finally gives up I'll make a decision about my next computer (probably 2018-2019).

The contextual OLED Touch Bar on the new MacBook Pro, which is its key feature, has been in development under the direction of Jony Ive for at least two years, and according to Ive, it "marks a beginning" of a "very interesting direction" for future products.
For 2 years? At such speed it marks the end not the beginning. It's a nice feature but in development for at least 2 years? He'd better stop designing tables and Christmas trees. If that touch bar took 2 years of development then something like Surface Studio will take 10.

Absolutely not!

I was thinking the same thing following the event. The "Hello Again" sentiment should've been saved for new iMac announcements (in my opinion). The smaller venue in Cupertino really was appropriate for this event though. Maybe that should've been my first indication that there wasn't going to be any significant announcements today, but the tagline really threw me into "think-ing different"

That all being said, the touch bar seems like a useful feature. I'm anxious to try it out at my local Apple Store when their remodel is finished.
