For 2 years? At such speed it marks the end not the beginning. It's a nice feature but in development for at least 2 years? He'd better stop designing tables and Christmas trees. If that touch bar took 2 years of development then something like Surface Studio will take 10.

A screen on a hinge with a pizza box under it. Such innovation

Everyone wants a Mac. Not everyone can afford Macs. Hence, a forum full of whiners and wannabes.

Go buy crappy PCs with horrific Windows OS and feel good about the "value" you think you got.
You missed the point here.
My guess is 90% of us Mac users were still happy to pay the Mac premium as it was, give users long over due spec bumps across the line and keep the prices the same as you have done for years.
Or create a new pro line with a new price point. E.g. Air line or MacBook line.
As Steve Martin would say, But Nooooo!
Choice gone
Price escalated
You come along with love it or leave it.
As for me and my money, it is leave it.

It's kind of weird how many new users to Macrumors, people that as far as I can see just joined today or just a couple of days ago, are today posting negative after negative stuff on this articles...mmm...conspiracy theory...

I'm Jony Ive's age, but it's time for anyone on the Executive Team who is over 40 to go. These people have all become so wealthy that they can no longer relate to their customers. A $500 price increase? With the sluggish economy, they should have CUT the price by $200!

Nobody gives a damn about saving half a pound or three millimeters of thickness.

I want a Mac Pro in a laptop (it's a laptop, Apple, NOT a notebook) form factor, so I want 32 GB of memory, I want Kaby Lake processors, I want 25% or 50% more battery life.

I would gladly trade a Touch Bar for these features, because they actually give me something.

And what's with it costing $1,200 to UPGRADE from 500 GB of flash to 2 TB? A NEW SSD is $650!

Apple is completely out of touch. Tim has succumbed to his bean-counting, and is trying to make up for slowing iPhone sales by taking more profit out of the hide of Mac owners. Just greedy and disgusting.

Absurd prices for mid-tier hardware.

Also a new OLED strip.

You really have trouble with context don't you? I was replying to someone talking about yesterday's Microsoft keynote

Watch their keynote from yesterday, you missed something.

Again, I think you missed the tech in the screen ... since claiming it's a screen on a hinge without acknowledging the screen tech at all is silly. It was a childish comment.

So what tech was in the screen that's innovative? Still waiting.

Yea Phil, we "don't design for price" easy for you to say you're not the one who's been saving for nearly two years to upgrade, only for Apple to release one that's still overpriced. Even the base models are pricey so on that note enjoy spinning the sh*t out of that one, meanwhile myself and other apple users who have been for years are the ones who feel the pain of this.

"We did spend a great deal of time looking at this a number of years ago and came to the conclusion that to make the best personal computer, you can't try to turn MacOS into an iPhone," Schiller says. "Conversely, you can't turn iOS into a Mac.... So each one is best at what they're meant to be -- and we take what makes sense to add from each, but without fundamentally changing them so they're compromised."

You don't have to marry iOS with OS X, clearly under Cook and Ive's direction it will be a monster, but to have a detachable touch screen on a MacBook... Why not? There's something to think about.

I understand Tim Cook and the spirit of Steve Jobs is against adding TouchScreens to their Laptops/Desktop computers but I really think Apple missed out on incorporating some great current technology with these new Macbook Pros. Say for instance:
-Allowing the "Apple Pencil" to be used on Macbook Pro screens
-Wireless charging of idevices through Macbook Pros
-Integrating iphones and iPads as secondary touchbars to get even larger areas of touch options with zero lag response.
-Isight camera built into the center of the screen
-Touchbar location on the actual screen so users never take their eyes off of the screen.
-etc. etc. etc.

I have many more ideas that Apple can sure have from me.

"Affordability is "absolutely something we care about," Schiller says."

"My ass!" To use Mr Schiller's term. They plainly don't care. They apparently know people will buy it because of osX.
It's getting harder for me to justify this much money for any computer.

And this is the problem. This isn't even worth replying to.

Lol there's nothing innovative about it whatsoever and you know it. Sulking and playing "isn't even worth replying to" card just makes it even more absurd.

Lots of people only come here for keynotes... that's just as it has always been. It's when there's something to talk about. Only certain people get excited by mid-cycle blurry photos of possible iPhone screen.
