Even as a massive fan of Apple, this is just ridiculous. The price hike, removal of ports, and the general lack of innovation (other than the touch bar, which is cool but not worth $200 more) is really irritating. Couple this with the fact that they still didn't update the Mac Pro and they seem to have lost interest in the pro market entirely, and I'm very concerned for the future of Apple's computer lineup.

My next computer won't be a Mac unless Apple collectively pulls their head out and makes some real pro level computers.

Why? Because you're broke? Your business can't fund the purchase of quality equipment?

People that use Macs don't stop and move on to PCs instead. People that troll internet forums love to say that though.
What an ignorant and arrogant statement.. Who are you to judge him? He can buy whatever he wants with his money. You can blow all your money on this laptop and then be stupid enough to spend some more on dongles if you want..

I understand what he's saying. But, if the price is too high, only a few will buy. I for one won't be picking it up, even though I had planned to do so. I simply cannot justify the price.

Agreed. I was ready to make a purchase after the keynote. The price hike for the features are not worth it. Add in all the extra cash I'd have to spend on adapters to connect my stuff (including Apple products like iPhone 7) is ridiculous.

I might had bought a different Mac today, if they updated their other Mac computers! Very disappointed with Apple's approach lately. This update didn't deserve its own keynote.

Let's be honest, he's posting from his bedroom at home with ma and pa and looking forward to college tomorrow, whilst dreaming away and pretending he's a millionaire.

If it wasn't for the fact that I develop iOS apps for a living, today would have been the day I left Apple. Where's a good working Hackintosh when you need one?

heh, that's exactly what some iOS devs I know have done for a while - they work on Hackintoshes!
Then essentially outsource to those with real Apple Mac computers to QA it.

I just realized they come with Skylake processors o_O I assumed it'd come with Kaby Lake since many Windows machines have been shipping with them.

I had the live stream on the whole time on my iPad. Must've been a bird that flew by at the exact moment Mr. Schiller talked about the processor.

They used the terminology "6th generation" intentionally in order to brush over the matter.

Just like they brushed over battery life - and not graph after graph as usual - because it doesn't compare well to the Surface (which is cheaper... and has touch... and a stylus... and a real GPU...).

The biggest issue is that most other manufacturers update every year or even 6/9 months. This is pretty much what we've got for possibly 2 years+.

Can you imagine how this is going to compare to the Dell XPS 15 when the next refresh comes? That will be THREE generations later for the current XPS than the current MacBook... which arguably (easily arguable) already outstrips this.

They've gone mad. A two year update cycle only works if, in some way, you jump ahead of the pack.

"A Mac with a touchscreen isn't "particularly useful," Ive said, while Schiller said Apple investigated the possibility of converging iOS and Mac devices but decided against it."

It would be useful if you would BUILD THE THING and give 3rd parties a reason to write the software for it!
If you're going to make a notebook, make a notebook.
If you're going to make a creative tablet, just make a tablet.
If you're going to resist the future and milk your existing product lines by creating a half-measure, then do it big, replace the entire typewriter keyboard, opaque trackpad, and skinny invisble touchbar with a full sized touch display on the horizontal, and have fully configurable application-specified control surfaces for it, and floating cursors for touch control up onto the high res vertical display.

Or just drag your heels and fall further and further behind while microsoft and a dozen other PC makers do it.

They look like really nice laptops, but damn...they are expensive.
It not that I can't afford them, it's more like there is no way in hell I am paying that much for a laptop!
Once you up the storage and ram (a near necessity as you probably can't do it later) the price is eye-watering..

For those in the US it is expensive, for other countries prohibitively so.
I can't see many students picking one up for college. Madness.

What a stupid, aggressive, and unwarranted comment.
No: he thinks of that concept that economists would call "opportunity cost." Remember: it's the customer that decides the fair price, not the company.

Hmmmm. Yes definitely design for the price and screw usability experience.

Form above functionality and hiked prices.

I'm looking for a laptop that has value for money and great performance. These machines lack value for money.

I'm not interested sitting in Starbucks displaying eye candy!

Don't forget to about a dongle for iphone 7 head phones! best part of this exciting new direction! No product continuity!

ridiculous price for a touch bar. They should have retained the old pricing or maybe a max of $150 more. Tell you what, you can buy another iPad with that money and keep it next to your MacBook. And I am sure this will trigger a bunch of $2.99 apps that will recreate some of the same functionality on an iPad. So use your iPad/iphone as a touch bar! (Anyone making this app, please send me $0.25 as royalty per sale :) )

Some people are buying the new MacBook Pro. I cancelled my earlier order of silver to order space gray instead and my shipping estimate slipped from 2-3 weeks to 3-4 weeks.

Capitalism may be about companies creating profit, but they way they do that is to create a great product that people WANT. If companies violate that principle, their profits start to decline. If they violate it too much, or for too long, they go out of business.

But I don't see them violating anything at all. If I were in the market for a MacBook Pro I would probably splurge on the highest end 15 inch model. And in addition it was just reported that shipping times have slipped so it's obvious that customers do in fact "want" the new MBPs despite all this negative hoopla. Sales may be lower than the past but margins may be higher to accomodate.

People are indeed voting with their wallets so I don't see Apple crossing or violating any lines here.

Apple's latest and greatest costs a LOT of money but it's no different with their phones and tablets. If you want an Apple product, such as a MacBook Pro and don't want to pay top dollar, buy a refurb for a great discount. You don't need that space tray touch bar p3 screen. If you want it, then pay. The prices are expensive, but they have plenty of low cost options for people while still doing what they can to provide what they think is the best user experience.
When their latest laptop with mid level specs, a crappy keyboard, pitiful graphics capability and abysmal connectivity costs a similar amount to a high spec Windows laptop with power up the wazoo and all the ports you could ever want, that is fully capable of ACTUAL work, Apple are quite naturally going to loose sales.

The Macbook Pro has sadly now joined the ever growing list of Apple products that are a complete joke.
