I would like to see a drastic drop in saturation. It feels like PowerPuff Girl's UI. So tiering for my eyes.
I don't care for customization of the UI just to have the option at least to drop saturation on those Icons and remove the pure white dominating elements so that my eyes don't get tired so easily when in Light Mode.

Would be interesting if icons support two variations in iOS 15, one for Light Mode and one for Dark Mode.

Yes, hence the tagline for WWDC21 - "Glow & Behold".

It's the new UI. Can't wait. The super flat UI is a bit boring honestly.
This makes perfect sense.

"Glow and Behold"

"Glow" meaning, well, glow. A big, bright change, like how macOS changed with Big Sur.

"Behold" meaning... well it's pretty self-explanatory. Handheld, being held, able to be held in the HAND... *wink wink*

I like it a lot. Finally we‘re getting back some contrasts and details on our screens. The more high res our screens got, the more details got removed from the UI suddenly. It sure makes sense we restarted with a blank canvas so to say but for my personal taste it took long enough to get back some eye candy in screen design.

Looks great. I'm still in disbelief Apple doesn't let you customize your launcher. Here's my S20FE, with a couple different app icons, custom spacing, all apps on one page, and no text to make it totally personalized to how I like it.

More consistency in the app icon design would be welcome. ios is better in this regard than Mac OS where it seems like anything goes. Also what would this new look do to the settings icon which has never matched the other app icons.

I don’t this means major changes are coming for end user icons. This style will be used in apps that content creators use, the more colorful icons are for end users. I think it makes logical sense.
Depends as, if my memory is correct, the changed the music icon from the nice red one to coincide with the new Apple Music service launch. The logic being new icon = visual cue of updated and new features for end users.

For content creators, this may be a nudge for album and podcast artwork to implement 3D effects and developer teams to come up with a 3D icon to align with direction that Mac and iOS are headed. Some daily driver 3rd party apps on Big Sur stick out like a sore thumb compared to stock ones.

To be fair I finally started to like the latest design philosophy, realising the potential of what Yosemite did (badly).
I'm not sure going back to a bevel look would be appropriate, but we'll see.
At least I appreciate Apple always doing its thing, regardless of what else happens in the tech world.

I wish they would finally make DARK MODE versions of the icons. I hate how the UI is dark and pretty but many icons just burn my retina because they are as bright as day.
That'd be pretty cool.
I like the colourful look of the Ui, but it works much better in light mode; as a dark mode user myself I'd like some muted icons, maybe even monochrome.

No, it wouldn’t be 10.12, it would be 12.0. 10.12 already happened, back in 2016. The current version of macOS is 11.0 (the actual current as of writing this reply being 11.2.3), so the next version of macOS, would most likely be macOS 12.0

No it’s 12.

It'll be macOS 12

No, its 12.0.

10.12 was Sierra
Correct. I should have quoted the OP wher they inadvertently listed it as “...macOS 10.12...” Has since been fixed. As you were. 😜

iTunes was gracefully divided into several apps, like a fragmentation grenade. iTunes started as a big mess 2 decades ago, it just keeps getting worse...

Good god these comments are cringe. Half are would-be graphic designers who pretend to know anything, and the other half are lame-brained dweebs getting themselves off over the same “bevel and emboss” joke.
