Makes sense. At least 18 month development from the time they announced they were redesigning it.

Although, if you think about it they should have been doing this refresh long before this. It's pretty sad for a company this large. Apple doesn't have a product person leading the company anymore. It's design by committee now and you can see they are not giving the mac the time of day. No clear vision of what the line should be. What happened to the four quadrants Jobs drew out when he returned to Apple.

We want to be transparent and communicate openly with our pro community so we want them to know that the Mac Pro is a 2019 product. It's not something for this year."

Panzarino says we're not likely to hear any additional detail about the Mac Pro at WWDC in June, and that he expects Apple will keep quiet about the machine until next year.

So which is it?

That's ****ing BS that they "still don't know how our users use our computers". What have they been doing for the last 9 years? Oh right, phones. It's a g**#amn shame they can't come to terms with Pro users' needs in a short amount of time and make that computer. How long have people on THIS MacRumors forum (specifically the Mac Pro section) be crying for a new cheesegrater/5,1 machine. A desktop computer isn't hard to design. The trashcan is trash and never should have been made. Pro's don't give a crap about desk space or how pretty it looks for the most part. Ports, easy expansion, long unit life, the ability to put new cards and multiple drives, preferably easy chip updates too. HOW CAN ANYONE AT APPLE NOT KNOW THIS?? BUILD A NEW 5,1 and we will buy it.

Something's amiss if it takes them two years or so to design a new Mac Pro. I don't know if it's too few people assigned to the project, too many, over-engineering, too much emphasis on form over function (which Apple more or less admitted was a problem with the current Mac Pro).

I don't know what it takes to design a new computer, but Apple does. And so do Dell, HP, and so on. Obviously, I don't want Apple to spit out a Dell caliber machine, and yeah, they're more or less assembling and reselling parts developed by other companies, but if it allows them to actually get computers out to their customers, then maybe they're on to something.

Apple customers are willing to pay more for a more attractive, high quality computer, but come on, Apple, you've got to give them something.

I'm guessing this will include the Mac Mini too. It makes sense to create a Mac that if bare boned can be used as a Mini and built up to a Pro.
Where did you get that from? You're assumptions are the reason why Apple is not more transparent with customers.

I still want a 17" MacBook Pro laptop. 30" iMac Pro, or 30" iMac. Also 30", 32" or 34" screens. User upgradable memory, processors, graphics cards, and user upgradable HDs. I guess I have as much chance of wining the lottery than Apple giving what customers want.
A retina 21:9 34' standalone monitor would have been amazing though (same pixel density as the current 27' iMac monitor), in addition to a regular 27' monitor.

Teams are Cook's solution for everything. More layers, more people talking and not doing. What was wrong with the 2010 Mac Pro tower? Even today it would fit in well with Apple's lineup. It didn't need to redesign the damn thing in 2013, all it had to do was keep pace with current technology. Think about it... had Apple simply upgraded the tower with current components, we would have a competitive Mac Pro today with all available technologies, the latest Intel processors and the fastest RAM. But no... Apple has to figure out a way to throw way more money at something that shouldn't have been a problem in the first place.

There's something very wrong with Apple's thinking here.

Cue the complaints from people that won't be putting down the money to buy a Mac Pro regardless.

I'm upset about the Ferrari that's far outside of my price range.
Doesn't matter if the people complaining will be getting it or not. A company or even individual who might be considering switching to OSX for their work who sees they don't update machines for years at a time, might now not switch. Money isnt what gets you the right to criticize something.

Also comparing a Mac Pro to a Ferrari is plain stupid, but believe it or not, even if the Ferrari is outside of your price range, you are allowed to be critical if said car were to include a V4 engine.

At least they gave a heads up.

Pro workflow team. That’s a good idea. Kind of crucial actually. I’m surprised that hasn’t always existed.

I wish their pro workflow team studied my work flow as a digital artist who needs powerful desktop drawing applications on the go in a stand-alone device. Just wishful thinking.

What about the Mac Mini though?
I think if the new Mac Pro is done properly having a consumer version of it replace the mac mini would be the best way forward. In the mean time they should stop selling the current model as it's an antique in the computer world at this point
