This means I’ll likely be waiting until sometime in 2020. Not worth jumping through hoops in an attempt to get in this calendar year. Could have used the deduction in 2019, but maybe I’ll upgrade the laptop instead if the 16” size and specs work.

"OK, I guess I'll take this iPhone case, and can I get a gift card for $50? Oh wait, is that the new Mac Pro? Oh heck, why not, I'll take of one those too."
Think about it as an amazingly priced $6,000 monitor with an even more amazing $1,000 discount, if you are willing to forgo the stand.
Holiday shoppers are not fighting over a $6000 computer and a $6000 monitor.

As rushed and terrible as everything else Apple's done this year has been, you'd have to be insane to spend all this money on what is clearly a rushed & completely deadline driven ultra-low volume product. It'll be months of production before they finish tweaking this thing on the production line.
It’s reportedly launching in about a month, if you believe the rumors. I suppose it could slip into March but it would be incredibly surprising (to me).
Wal-mart where I live put Christmas trees on display on August 29th this year. They didn’t even have the Halloween candy out yet.

Apple originally said it was going to be a "fall release". There's nothing wrong with reminding people when "fall" actually is, especially when a couple of posters seemed unclear on that.
Does this spell the demise of the iMac Pro? I hope not. I think the iMac Pro fills an important market between the production house machine and the regular iMac.
if 2020 is as good a year business wise as I hope, I'll be buying one monitor to attach to the newest iMac's whenever they come out... otherwise all of this is too rich for my blood. (But I'm a publisher, an iMac 5k is all I really need).
With Epyc Rome already here and Milan coming, with 64 cores and more plus several lanes of PCI-E 4.0, the overpriced Mac Pro seems... obsolete.
