Well, if an Apple Head cannot buy an iPhone at their carrier, that is fine. That is what Apple.com is for. Plus, there is an app for that. I got my iPhone 5 from my app - no problem. Who wants to wait in line to be harassed by AT&T employees anyway. This would make the iPhone more of a hot item if they are harder to get.

Apple doesn't need NEW customers, just keep satisfying the current customers because we are bringing Apple new customers through our friends and family. I am happy with waiting. I don't want to compromise myself and get a cheaper phone just because it is bigger. It will never do everything Apple does, nor will they provide the same kind of service which Apple does.

Apple doesn't need new customers? Are you serious? The problem is many current customers aren't happy because they see android phone makers offering different screen sizes yer Apple has only one size. They'd be insane at this point and time not to make a bigger screen size. You act as if a bigger screen phone is some sort of gimmick. A bigger screen improves reading books, gaming is a whole lot crisp and better looking. It is very useful having a screen bigger than the current 4.0 screen.

Seriously. There's nothing embarrassing about acknowledging your own weaknesses. I'll say it did Apple a lot of good. Just look at iOS's implementation of Notifications, Voice Recognition, Cloud Services. Compare that to Android's and it's sure as hell obvious that Apple has some unique implementations not found on Android out of the box (For example, notifications appearing on lock screen as well as badges on app icons, voice commands for native app functions and a digital assistant with human personality, iCloud backups for the entire phone including documents created from iWork and granular control over what gets backed up)

Sorry dude, my mothers had HTC phones going back ages, and they have all had the ability to put notifications on the lock screen, plus a small no. On the icon.. whether we want to admit it or not , this along with the pull down notification menu was wholeheartedly "borrowed" from android....

I don't blame them if they think Android is a threat. It's smart to keep an eye on their closest competitor.

When the original iPhone was introduced, it was introduced like Apple had looked round at all the smartphones, worked out what the problems were and made, as Steve Jobs put it, a "leapfrog" product.

Maybe now they're going to do the same thing... and release iPhone 6 w/ iOS 8?

Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part.

Correct me if I'm wrong bro (I traded my HTC One away). But HTC does provide notifications for stock apps only. To get lock screen banners and app icon badges for third party apps like FB, WhatsApp, Gmail or Calendar (Google's) ur **** out of luck. Unless of course u install third party launchers. And third party launchers drains the hell out of ur battery life. Anyways who uses those lame stock apps on HTC when Google Play offers much better ones?

The point is iOS provides granular control over notifications for all apps regardless of it being native or installed; the notifications options in iOS's Settings puts HTC's to shame. Yes there's no denying Apple totally ripped off Android's pull down gesture for access to a notification tray. But I was referring to the lock screen notifications. I don't know how far back ur Mum's HTC phones are, but iOS 5 is pretty far back in years when this feature debuted. Even if HTC's implementation predates Apple's, it's still half assed being limited only to default apps. Isn't Android supposed to be more customizable than iOS?

I'm the person who always bought those huge Android phones. Heck, I used to be one of those people who bashed Apple. I've still got a Note 3 too.

Do I use it as a phone? Nope. It's got no SIM in it anymore. I have my 5s on that line.

My other line? That's got a 5c.

Why? As much as I'd always loved Android, as phones, these huge devices don't work for me. I can't hold them up to my head comfortably. One handed use is impossible. Add all my experiences with horrible call quality and I don't regret getting a tiny screened iPhone one bit.

But your quote was that u can't get lock screen notifications out of the box on android. Now you're saying you can, but not third party ones. Handcent message app does wonderful lock screen notifications. So you can get default ones, and 3rd party ones.. you seem to have an agenda here brother just to promote ios and pull down android.. for the sake of basic honesty, shall we just stick to facts not propaganda..

I want options, not for Apple to tell what I like.

This is the biggest mistake you people make... It is more like... This is what we sell, take it if you want it... Or just move on... Simple as that...

No one discusses that aspect anywhere on the forums... That has been my biggest gripe with the Samsung and HTC phones I have used...

This is Steve himself admitting that Google is ahead of Apple in certain areas. This email is from 2010. Steve claimed that Google stole Android yet he was admitting that iOS was behind in a few key areas. Priceless. In a way he was outdone at his own game.

I would think that they would have stopped it from becoming public if they could have. Samsung must be jumping up and down and turning cartwheels now that this has been made public. If it stayed internal, no big deal at all, but now it is embarrassing.

You keep on harping "it is embarrassing, it is embarrassing"... I really do not find anything embarrassing in a company realizing it can improve in certain areas of its offerings... Google has had cloud services running since a long time now... It wasn't Apple's forte to begin with... But, they are pretty damn good now... So what is so embarrassing about it...?

Lock screen notifications for just stock HTC email, calendar, text and phone was not what I had in mind when I wrote those. Same goes for app icon badges which likely originated from the iPhone.

In any case is there evidence that HTC's predates iOS 5 implementation for lock screen notifications? If there is I'll concede that I'm wrong regarding this point. However, that doesn't mean I can't point out how stunted HTC's implementation is.

Ha, my Nexus 5 has a screen that is bigger and destroys the iPhone and it's much cheaper but better IMO. So yes Apple are

Destroys is a strong word.... Maybe does some things better.. some things not so good.. fair point?..

When ios 5 was released.. if I remember correctly my old ma had a sensation xe, which already had lock screen notifications, all the quick access icons, camera etc.. u cud put yer calendar, mail, Facebook status's on there etc.. I actually thought it worked very well.. I'm not surprised it became commonplace within the industry..

As a side note.. I recall u cud link fb status's to contacts.. so wen u got a phone call their status appeared on screen So u were aware what was going on before u spoke to them which I thought was pretty cool...

I agree. Compare to how Samsung officials freaked out (in reference to the previous court document), I'll say Apple's response was pretty mild and professional. There's no mention of things like "difference between heaven and Earth" (can't rmb exact quote) when Samsung was comparing the iPhone features they were lacking.

I'm glad Apple is worried about its competitors. Last thing we need is for Apple to become complacent and rest on it laurels.

Competition is great for the consumer in the end.

Yep, competition can keep apple on its toes and improving it's services.

But competition isn't always good. It could have gone the route of lowering prices to compete but instead competes on quality. Which is what I think you're getting at and thankfully the way apple does things.

Apple is still missing a huge market - those who have purchased iMacs, Macs, MacBooks and iPads and just want a phone that integrates with that system and uses a familiar interface. Not all of us need or want the ultimate in smart phones.

The 5C should have been that phone, but alas, the bean counters at Apple can't see further than the bean counting table. They had a second shot with the 8 gig 5C - but failed again.

Based on that performance, what's the betting the new iPhone is even more expensive and nothing else changes in the lineup. It's really getting to be a case of 'the emperors new clothes' - average camera, over priced, looking dated, but hey it's Apple - they'll still get another 3 years of people paying for old stock, while they trumpet the overpriced latest, greatest release.

As soon as apple release a larger screen, the better.

Many folks that i know have left apple, lured by android size factor and the realm of mini-tablets - for e.g. i saw somebody watch an entire film on the train on their note 3! can not really do this with an iPhone!

...
I remembering trying to watch Batman Begins on my iPhone. Man what a frustrating experience completely at odds with the marketing lingo. A cinemascope film on a tiny tiny screen. It basically took up half of the screen volume. Only with the iPhone 5 did Apple start realise something has to change. And only lengthened the screen which wasn't really the right move imo.

The larger iPhones can't come soon enough.

Oh and the Moto G kicks iPhone 5C right in the nads. Price and quality and size.

I'd still love to know how this stuff is made public and if Apple's legal team could have prevented that from happening. It has nothing to do with whether Samsung infringed on certain patents. I don't get the relevance to the trial, though I certainly can see why Samsung would want this made public.

It occurs to me that when the evidence was entered, it probably was for lawyers eyes only. But since that time, perhaps this has now become "of public record." If so, they wouldn't go back and change the text at the bottom of the document.

Just a guess, of course.

Nothing new - again !

People still put these things up against their heads? Get evolved and use the earbuds - then your phone companies can make as large a phone as they please. Just make pockets and bags bigger too but lighter???? I'm confused..

I think the iFone 5 is the perfect amount of everything in the smart fone trend. It represents the beginning of an evolution and the end of an innovation period. Now it is time to start a brand new thing and I seriously don't think nor do I like the thin, flexible as a tampon w/ bigger display, still not smart enough -- nor affordable enough phone will cut it folks!

I use my beautiful & perfect iPad Air as my go to - all in one communications mega unit via free wifi and have my little iFone 4es in case of an emergency - and I'm singing the happy happy joy joy song!

Stop producing more e-waste demand please it is really sad now there is NO competition it is all the same BS over and over and over and over again for the past how many boring years now in phone technology -- sheesh!

I love you all keep well and away from mass debt!

I think this site is overrun with Android fans and users that aren't happy with the fact that Apple has a different model in terms of screen size offerings and OS openness.

Apple uses the walled garden approach. If you want open platform stick with your Androids and be happy with that. Stop telling this forum how much you'd prefer Apple was like Android OS and Samsung phones. Just stick to your choice and be happy with that

Some of us prefer Apple because it's NOT everyone else.

IMO, Apple needs to come up with a virtual home button as it currently takes up space that could be used to increase screen size.

The physical button is necessary for those (admittedly rare) occasions when a hard reset is required.

To add to that. If you kept a jailbreak like I did, the options are there. It's not like you can't do anything at all to the iPhone in the ways of modification. I've found my JB iPhone to be just as much fun as my rooted Android!

these gigantic phones are stupid. A nice 4.7" sounds awesome.. but 5.5"? What is the purpose of such a large phone??
