Yup, and google is now paying Apple 9 billion a year, up from the initial 1-2 billion. So on average, google pays Apple an extra $1 billion every year just for the privilege of accessing its users.
It pays more because it makes more money. Simple.
Logic would suggest that Apple is actually gaining more leverage over google, rather than the other way round.
There's nothing suggesting that. Taking in consideration the way the negotiations were conducted I doubt any of the two companies had any major leverage over the other. Apple was just as interested to make the deal as Google was.
You don’t have to necessarily believe or like what I say.
Well you don't have any clear proof for your claims. That's what I was pointing out.
But google is a profit maximising company first and foremost.
Yeah just like Apple Inc.
Would they agree to pay Apple so much if they didn’t expect to earn even more back from us?
Nobody said Google is making less than what they paid.
And if the rest of the android user base were anywhere near as lucrative, we would have seen it in their earnings report.
What would you have seen exactly?
What incentive does Google have to brag about this kind of stuff anyway?
Or do you think google is doing this because they have too much money to throw around?
Who said that?
I don't understand why you try to clarify claims that weren't made by anybody here. Just kidding, I know why you are doing it, you simply don't have any plausible arguments.

I am not sure what you are asking. I can and have changed it in Windows for all the browsers; Edge, IE, Chrome, Safari, etc...

Windows has built in web searches via the search bar, Cortana, and lookup features. All default to Bing even if your browser has a different search engine selected. There used to be a plug-in that would redirect searches, but Microsoft broke it with a previous update. The developer has stated that they don’t know how to get around it and have paused releasing any updates.

Okay, now I better understand your question.
Don't use Cortana and almost all of my lookups are either app or browser executed. As a result I have never really looked into it.
A quick look found this. I'll have to give it a deeper look.

It does look like MS made is difficult and reset after each update. :(

Yeah, they sure did. I’ve used this is the past and it worked remarkably well. Breaking it greatly disrupted my workflow. I use the search bar for my workstation and rely on Cortana for my piano.

$9b if you believe the estimate done by Goldman.

This deal Apple has going with Google has often struck me as a little weird these last few years when Apple has been so focused on privacy and the respect of customer data. I use DuckDuckGo and it works good enough for me, but I doubt there are many that jump in there and change the search default preference.

This is a totally made up number, and most certainly wrong. But because it's the internet, the guesstimate is usually stated as a fact, and is now often spouted as $12 Billion a year. The fact is that court documents show that Apple received $1 Billion dollars a year from Google in 2014. Everything else is a SWAG without any basis in fact, but one firm guessed it at $3Billion in 2017, and then others jumped it up in 2018 to 9 Billion, and now in 2019 some goofballs are guessing it at 12 Billion. I guess next year some "analyst" will estimate it at 15 Billion, and soon enough Google's entire revenue will be going to Apple. LOL. Guess all you want, but it's pathetic that these sites repeat it as though it were in any way a fact.

$1 billion. $9 billion. Somewhere in between.

The number matters less than Apple talking about privacy in all of their PR and still sticking Google as the default search provider in MacOS and iOS.
