Okay. Okay. FOR REALS this time, the iPhone will fail. My faith is in the MacRumors’ groupthink. Based on what expertise? Who knows. But surely, based on price, camera bump, notch, and same boring design, we as a collective know more and better than the folks with the skillsets who work at Apple.

I’ll be waiting on the 2020 iPhone. That’s the one that seems like a big upgrade.

The last iPhone is a lackluster sales went downhill , now they want to produce more?

I'm not defending Apple's high iPhone pricing, but when it comes right down to it, an iPhone can do easily do more than a laptop can in terms of versatility, so Apple can claim an iPhone should cost as much as an (Apple) laptop. I doubt iPhone prices are going to come down very much so it will be all Android smartphones grabbing increasing market share.

iOS is nowhere near as good as MacOS.

Technology prices should generally always decrease year on year not increase, as production/manufacturing etc gets more efficient. So in theory the iPhones this year should decrease in price since they are more or less identical bar a processor bump and an extra camera.

I really hope sales drop by like 20 million. It’s time they were kicked into touch.

There seems to be a lot of people jumping ship because of a shape on the side of the phone they don't look at.

Weird.

Nobody is jumping ship. They're just bitching on Macrumors because that's the popular thing to do on here for a lot of people. They'll still buy the phone.

You forgot that there are still plenty of iPhone 5s, 6, SE, and 6s users who are probably looking for an upgrade this year.

And don't underestimate emerging markets. Sure, majority of the population will opt for $100 phones as that's the genera purchasing power, but there are plenty of rich people in those markets as well who want iPhones. What Apple imo need to work harder is to support in those region. I mean heck, the News app itself is not available in many markets, which is hurting Apple's aim to provide services to their customers. Take SE Asia. Apple was late and Samsung has taken over the general brand mindset, but Apple is trying now with more stores and app support.

You don't see louis vuitton or Hermes trying to gain marketshare nor selling cheap stuff. Yet they have outlets in the emerging markets as well.

Apple is not targeting Xs users. Apple is targeting the 5s/6/6s/7 users. This is why we have yearly incremental upgrades. Apple is not looking at those who just purchased their phones last year. Those people will be served by the 2020 iPhones. It's been like this since the 3GS.

What you explain in the above is certainly (!) not what Apple wants, as the market is almost saturated right now with all kind of different iPhone generations being in usage all over the world as we speak. Let me assure you, this was certainly not the case back in the 3GS days you are referring to.
It's becoming more and more important for Apple to sell that exact iPhone to the people who already own an iPhone. Acquiring market shares in a market you basically created all by yourself was not the problem for Apple. Consolidating this exact market over the years is the tricky part, which is why annually iPhone upgrade programs even exist.
I myself have owned every iteration of iPhone except the XS, and I'm pretty sure that the general percentage of people upgrading their phones each year has declined over the past few years, which is indirectly reflected in dropping sales numbers. As markets saturate naturally, you have to ensure that purchasing incentives stay high every year. In the tech world, this means new innovations each year, plain and simple. Otherwise, you will go down.

I couldn't care less what other people think of my phone,as long as I like it.Anyway, most other iPhone users will like it.I wouldn't worry what Android users think.
It's not that you do not care, is that you only care about what iPhone user think (wich by the way according to this very trhead even iPhone users HATE the back of it).

Also you seems to imply that Android user do not count as in they are inferior. NICE ONE!

If that makes you feel better about yourself, go nuts!

Who is the “they” you are speaking for? Apple clearly missed sales numbers last year, so someone isn’t buying they thought would.

So much hate and negativity around here.

I look forward to the new 2019 iPhones. There will always be better and newer in the future. That's technology. You can choose to wait infinitely many years before you buy anything because the next one is the one to get.

And while I love my current iPhone 8, the biggest problem I have with the 6-8 lineup was battery. It's junk. I'm at 99% battery health and it sucks. It seems that I can only go half a day with moderate usage. My phone is always charging and it's annoying to have subpar battery. And I'm not a big-phone person, so the 8+ is out of the question.

If the battery on the iPhone 11 (non-Max) is as good as the leaks suggest, then that's a big enough reason to upgrade in my book.

People react like that every year, and still the sales grows (unless they rise the price).

Complaints, complaints, complaints then buy... if only people spoke less with theyr mouth / keyboard and more with their wallet....

Apple was supposedly doomed ever since Jobs took over. I will never understand how can people bash a company, who even cares if their sales go up or down?

I wouldn’t be upgrading this year anyway, but the way the mockups look on the back is truly unappealing to me. Hopefully by the time I’m ready to upgrade there’s something less hideous.

sales projections are one thing, (hoping/dreaming) actual purchases are quite another. 2019 is looking to be the most meh release in iPhone history if we can believe the rumors. If they're correct, my bet is most 2019 iPhone buyers will be those who have to replace an iPhone that no longer works or is on its last leg

Because voting with your wallet is the best indicator a company needs course correction. A lot of people entrenched in the iOS ecosystem care when they see their devices slowly becoming the least compelling in the market and even losing functionality they've been taking for granted (i.e. 3D Touch)

The weight of pricing gravity on iPhone ... the awakening of reason against yearly updates ... the boredom of consumerism on the masses... the search for some other (and different) shinny object to own ...

Who knows?
[i couldn't care less to Why?]

But if the pulse in here is any indication, there could be a tsunami of the majority against upgrading for this new 2019 edition of iPhones.

[There will always be a minority that will upgrade -- blindly. Enjoy!]

75M units "Produced," OK.

But, it may take Apple thru this time next year to sell 75M units of their 2019 models.

iPhone SE was my last buy. I may just get the iPhone 11R this year if prices are reasonable...
