I plan to keep my iPhone 6 for as long as it lasts. It was just replaced under warranty 3 weeks ago so it's basically new.

It does everything I need it to do at the speed I need it to be done. I would've kept my iPhone 5 but I needed the larger screen.

They'll have to really innovate for me to be interested in replacing the 6 for something newer. Can't anymore, innovate my ass.

Finally someone acknowledges the lack of innovation! Hopefully Apple gets a wake up call.
There is innovation but not in the iPhone line. The iPhone is going the way of the Mac becoming a cash cow. Their electrical car, Apple Watch, Apple TV and I'm sure other projects still confidential is underway is getting the "innovation" budget. IMO, Apple stock will go down for the rest of the year. A bit of a cat bounce with the iPhone 7 launch and then a huge spike when the Apple Car is launched next year.

This article is such click bait trash... NO WHERE do any of the manufacturer's comments indicate the "expected" (read, "pulling a guess out of my arse") slow down is due to "lack of innovation", what BS!

The article citing a lack of innovation was linked to twice in the original post.

The article states:
Taiwan's tech suppliers will get significantly fewer orders from Apple Inc. in the second half of this year compared with a year ago, no thanks to an ongoing slump in demand for premium smartphones and a lack of groundbreaking features for the upcoming iPhone 7, sources familiar with the matter told the Nikkei Asian Review.
[...]
A person at a major Taiwanese supplier for Apple said iPhone 7's lack of innovation is to be blamed for the weak demand.

So... yeah.

Is the iPhone 7 out already? I must have missed it.

Obviously we know everything about the iP7 and have reached an accurate conclusion that it lacks innovation.

Good thing no one has jumped to conclusions.

Tim Cook et al. told me that the iPhone 6S was innovative. I own one, and I still haven't come to that conclusion.

Lack of innovation????

  • First to market with pressure-sensitive capacitive touch screen
  • First to market with phone made of 7000-series military-grade aluminium
  • First to market with SSD NAND flash controller for laptop-class R/W storage performance
  • Still best-in-class fingerprint reader that cannot be matched for accuracy, response time, and security of any other reader
  • Still best-in-class SoC that with only dual cores puts 8-core Droids to shame in both single and multi-core performance
  • Most stable OS on mobile
  • Best-in-class update rollout times for OS
[...]

Look above to quantify just how much INNOVATION the iPhone actually HAS in relation to the competition...

Most people don't care about those specs; for the most part, they're incremental updates to existing features, or simply Apple's version of a particular feature. Moreover, how much will the iPhone 7 really change?

Major innovations for all phones are over. There is only so much the hardware needs/can do.
It's a mature industry.
But... more and more people worldwide are using smart phones. So the market is still growing.
Just don't look for any great revolutions...

Oh, look, this again.

You could substitute '7' in the article above with '6S', '6', '5S', '5', '4S'.

Every year some yahoos yell out the tired phrase 'lack of innovation' because the next phone doesn't have phasers or a teleportation beam or the ability to turn lawn clippings into gold. And yet, the phone sells ***** crazy every year.

There's only so many quantum leaps a device can make ... especially since the creation of the device in the first place was the true quantum leap. This idea that every year the phone has to invent some crazy new thing that no one has ever considered before is the ultimate in entitlement.

Yes, that's true... but when the iPhone is not even keeping up with the competition, I think it's fair to call..

A customer purchases iPhone 7 "hey guys I just picked up the iPhone 7. Wait a minute... That serial number looks very familiar......hey.....this was my old iPhone 6 Plus serial number!!"
Ian, the recycling robot, forgot to put a new serial number on your old iphone!

Not mentioned as a reason for the slower replacement cycle for phones is that the US has gone the way of the rest of the world and no longer has mobile carriers offering the 2-year replacement cycle for phones under contract. It is a lot easier to just hold off 6-12 months longer when you have to pay for the phone out of pocket (even when it's financed over a 20-month period).

The report claims Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), one of Apple's primary chip suppliers, may ship up to 30% fewer chips in the second half of 2016 compared to the year-ago period. The decline is attributed to the iPhone 7's expected lack of innovative features, saturation of the smartphone market, increased competition, and a global economic slowdown

This whole BS MR article is just trolling (and I guess I'm biting).

The decline in sales on iPhones mid 2016 is because EVERYONE knows the 7 is right around the corner. Only people that must have a new phone ASAP are buying the 6s right now. Everyone else is waiting.

And nobody but a select few at Apple knows what the iPhone 7 will be like. To make some claim that there is an expected lack of new features on the 7 is malarkey.

Its probably untrue and they are saying this to generate hype, and to create the illusion of scarcity.
It probably will be a great phone, dual camera, maybe 4k recording, possibly 4k screen, pretty amazing stuff. Like I said, this is probably an artificial marketing ploy

6S already has 4k recording

My bottom line thoughts. If the iPhone 7 is a flop due to lack of innovation, that will be Tim Cooks last release.

Obviously, we don't know enough about the 7 yet or iOS10 to know what the reality is, but I think there will be more than just a few tweaks. The 6s was tweaks and I would hope Apple knows they need major advancements now to stay relevant.

Can't wait to hear what' coming at the WWDC... and for goodness sake... give us new laptops!

So you're passing judgement that there is no innovation on a phone doesn't exist yet and the world hasn't even seen yet?

Did you read what I wrote?

You can't deny the 2nd hand treatment the smaller iphone 7 is going to get.

The 6s was more than a few minor tweaks, in line with other "s" models, like the 5s was just a few tweaks from the 5.

Apple Suppliers Project Weak Demand for iPhone 7, then some click baiters added "due to lack of innovation" to the end of it and called it a story. Did anyone consider that the reason the demand will be lower is because demand for the WHOLE INDUSTRY will be lower!?! Nope, it must be because there's not enough mega-pixels or RAM.

Keep lining your pockets and becoming to corporate and this is what happens.

They forget about the hardworking individuals who break their back at the apple stores, and apple care employees.

Seem to forget about the times before steve came back, and they had to many products. Not a clear product line with top of the line tech and features.

You can only ride on Steve's success and the brand of apple for so long. When you take it too far as you have, people will start looking past Apple and it will ruin its brand.

Turning the apple store into a boutique, lacking in product upgrades, and overpricing everything more and more.

Want an ipad pro? Spend 150 on the case 99 on the pencil, and the back case for it add another 70.
Want a Mac? Buy something that lacks the latest technology, But have a great OS.

Step it up and focus on what matters.
