The Control Center version lacks 10-second skip buttons, as well as what others have mentioned. It's definitely a step down using the Control Center version, and I've never really liked it.

This is on 14.0.1 with AppleTV 4K.

Are those two buttons mere halucinations then?

One other thing, since we’re talking about the TV remote. Something that neither the app nor the control center remote have, with respect with the physical Siri remote, is the ability to control the AirPods or other connected device volume. That is why I still use a lot the physical remote. Does anyone know if I’m missing something and there’s a way to control them AirPods or AirPlay volume with the app/control center?

Yes, I know I can reach the AirPods / AirPlay volume control via the Apple TV control center->AirPlay devices->Press+Hold on the device, but it's a three-step access. I'm talking about a direct access like the Siri remote volume buttons.

Thx a lot

MG
Use the physical volume buttons on the iPhone. Depending on what’s connected to the ATV, HomePod or AirPods, that should control the volume for that connected device.

Edit* Forgot to mention, that the Remote app must be open for this to work.

I've found performance of the Control Centre version quite patchy, especially password autofill. It often doesn't work unless I reopen it 2-3 times and that's been the case since iOS 13. And it's the only feature I really use it for, which makes it an especially prominent flaw for me.

I really dislike the physical remote and do opt to use by phone more and more. I would like easier volume controls from the phone remote. Having to access AirPlay control just to adjust volume seems clunky.

As Mind The Mac pointed out (and I tested myself), with the Control Center remote active on the iPhone you can control AirPlay volume directly with the iPhone volume buttons. I must highlight that I have yet to update to iOS 14.x on the iPhone, but I've updated the iPad to iOS 14.0.1 and it works the same.

As for the 10-seconds-skip touches, on my iPad with iOS 14 they're still there even in the control center TV remote. Are you implying that by the iPadOS 14.1 the 10-seconds-skip will be gone...?

We also have a camera, calculator and voice memos buttons in the control center...

I prefer the control center remote app a lot more. For one I get controls for my HomeKit enabled Vizio TVs baked into it and it feels a lot snappier. The actual app, since iOS 14, takes forever to load a remote interface.

A shame, as I was hoping that the remote app would gain a widget at some point.

The physical remote is useless as it is either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. Easily Apple’s worst piece of technology released, although I’m not hearing great things about MagSafe.

anyone else have connection issues with their 4k TV remote? I constantly have to use my iphone as the remote as a work around. My last non apple tv 4k did not have this issue. I changed the wifi channel to see if it would fix interference issues and nothing... also tried restarting and reconnecting remove with no issues. it is pretty annoying.

If only they could pull the physical remote from existence and from our collective memory.

That thing is so bad it makes me angry just thinking about it.

We've been using the Remote app exclusively for years. Lately it's been more and more dodgy, as in dropping connection to ATV, ten-second skip buttons disappearing and reappearing for no apparent reason, volume control of our Yamaha receiver not working - randomly. Hope the control center version is more stable.

Not sure if I remember correctly: First fast the physical remote, then the App, the the control center function.
I always wondered why they never pulled the App, after it was available in the control center.

Well, now it doesn’t matter to me anymore, since I gave away my AppleTV 4K due to low/non usage.

That’s nice, but the control center one has NEVER worked, unless I use the app first ):
I'm not buying that, sorry. It works perfectly. Is you iOS up to date? There were a few generations back when it was quirky., but its been great since at least ios14, not sure when it stopped being quirky

I never used the separate app all that much since the Control Centre version was made - but do miss the =/- 10 second buttons.

I tend to use my Samsung TV remote to control Apple TV - pressing actual buttons is so much better than the touch surface.
I know, right? I hate these touch screens, can't we go back to button phones? LOL

I still forget its in control center half the time and load the stand-alone app. Probably best that they get rid of it.
I do the same thing. But if they get rid of it I still wont remember its in control center then ill be upset with apple when its my own fault :(

Perhaps they are pulling it due to a new Apple TV being launched (together with the new macs).
I bought a 13” MBP for my son yesterday. Amazingly enough, I had to go to a Best Buy to get it, as every Apple store within an hour of me (4-5) was out of stock. My local Best Buy only had 2 showing in stock too.
