if this rumor is true. i guess white and space grey should be the colors... reminiscent of the white and black macbooks before ...

apparently ever since Chinese folks got the iPhone 6 model right...i'm starting to believe this laptop with gold might happen....and then mac pro gold will occur.

For you? Clearly yes. For me? Yup. For a lot of Uni students who are probably the largest market for it? No.

Laptops are tools. Just like cars. There's no logical reason they shouldn't come in a variety of colours.

Apple has a brand image to protect, though. They sell products based on style and fashion as much as anything else. The Apple Watch is just the latest indicator of that. A bright gold notebook would look gaudy to a big part of the population.

Yep, with an ARM processor. Also, Tap Pad instead Track Pad (think iPhone, iPad touch screen). No funky colors though, that's just dumb. Laugh all you like, just you wait and see...

I don't like the idea of a Tap Pad. iOS input works on touch screens, but would break so much OS X functionality. Hovering is used so much.

Pressure sensitivity that could distinguish between clicking and hovering might work though. It seems the Apple Watch has that, so we might see it.

I guess everyone forgets the fingerprint/grease/smudge magnets that were the black MacBooks?

Speaking of which, can they make the keys something other than smudge-attracting black plastic on the new Airs/Pros?

It's funny to see all these responses that assume a gold laptop would be covered in shiny pure gold bling, even though that's not at all what the gold iPhone looks like, and they don't have a completely black iPhone, because they can't get the "level of perfection" they want in a jet black finish. And Product (RED) would be handled by having a bright red case/cover, just like it is with the phones. I thought all these points were obvious...

On the other hand, if they adopt the iPhone/iPad "design language" of offering this new laptop in the same three color schemes, given how vital connectivity has become, I'd expect to see this new model also incorporate 3G/LTE radios , so you can get network connectivity from the cell carriers when WiFi isn't available.

If they replace the 11" and 13" models with a single 12" size that they think does a better job than either, then I can see them feeling more comfortable (total SKU count-wise) offering multiple colors. It would make sense to the folks who got an iPhone, and then an iPad, to get the laptop that just fits into the picture.

Replacing a 15" rMBP for a Retina 12" MacBook (Air)? Excuse me, why would you do that, portability?

It's just that I couldn't see myself going to a smaller screen on a laptop.

Oh I missed that it was the air. Yawn. Maybe next time lol. Yeah, I couldn't go down from 15".

I suppose I could get one for taking to university, and keep my rMBP as my home machine.

Is it possible to drag and highlight text without clicking? That's how I highlight and copy text that's also a hyperlink.

I don't care, I want an iPad Pro.

The surface pro 3 is too tempting to wait another year though...

This gold obsession is so cheap and tasteless. Gold iPhone, real gold Apple Watch, now MacBook, then gold iMac, then Apple TV...
Should sell pretty well in UAE.

But it won't be bright gold. It will be like the gold iPhone - a success by any measure.

It's been done before

Gold? no they won't do that. Silver (the current Aluminum) and Space Gray could very well happen. I'd love a black MacBook Air with Retina Display.:apple:

much as i like MacBook Pro's seamless form (with potential for no part/s hanging loose, coming part), I somehow dislike the aluminum finish. I experience a weird feeling, I cannot describe in words. It is akin to scratching a freshly painted wall (with powdery lime finish used in Asian countries) with your nails. I get that feel *now* while I type this! :)

I would love to see Mac OS X in a 12/13" form in a body such as an IBM ThinkPad with soft matte finish (with Apple level of engineering and low tolerances) just as I'd have loved to see iOS in an HP Palm Pre body.

What's the point if your laptops/phones, however beautiful, have to be covered up anyway in either your/third party shells?!

I hope it's Space Grey but I also hope it's a Space Grey with a better finish.
