We are to depended from china and the are the greatest environmental polluters.

Who cares about iPhones at this stage..

Just to put all that in a global perspective:

Each day about 8200 children under the age of 5 die of hunger or malnutrition.

How often do we read about that and more importantly: There is a cure for hunger and it is called food. With all the food we throw away in the first world countries, you could easily feed all these children!

Influenza virus kills approximately 250000 to 650000 per year world wide.

People don’t seem to understand it’s not “like the flu, bro.”

This is something that will overwhelm the hospitals, regardless of where you live.

Italy went from “carry on with your daily lives, masks are useless” to “Mama Mia, how did this happen?!” in a matter of weeks.

or due to public demand for 5G in general

You US guys still don’t grasp what’s happening. Italy just locked 16 million people, more than China.

It’s an unimaginable damage not only to people’s health but also to the economy. As soon as US will start extensive testing revealing the real magnitude of the pandemic we’ll see another leg down in the markets, a 30% fall or more.

So what if some new iPhones are delayed? It's not that big of a deal when compared to possibly many people dying from some virus. It's not as though Apple is going to go out of business because a few consumers can't purchase new iPhones.

Ah, but the media and analyst narrative every year is exactly that Apple will go out of business if a few consumers can't purchase new iPhones.

That being said, you are correct in that the grand scheme of things, a delay will not matter. People are used to new iPhones selling out almost instantly, anyway, so if they have to wait a few more weeks (or even months), they will.

So I believe Apple will announce the "iPhone 9" and "iPhone 12" to schedule regardless of the status of the supply chain.

1st world problems.

A fair bit of the 2nd and 3rd world (or to be more up to date, the "developed", "developing", and "underdeveloped" worlds) buys and uses iPhones, as well, so it's arguably their problem, too.

China is a top down government hierarchy which is why they move fast when the alternative is execution. To understand why it got out of control in Italia, you need to look beneath the covers. Italia is a bureaucratic basket case where the wheels of motion turn slowly unless greased with backhanders. Corruption is rife to the local level so it took too long for everybody to realize this wasn't about everybody getting their cut before making things happen. That's why Italia is headlining this disaster movie.

Italy moved pretty quickly, and was praised by the WHO. France, for example, has over 1000 cases but clubs, schools and bars are still open.

I’m going to hold off commenting about things I have precious little useful information about, to other people who apparently have even less of an understanding, for a period of 4 weeks. It will be interesting to see if any of us learn anything in that time.

And we waste time shutting down plastic straws.

Yes it is, but your hype isn't helping. This will take TIME to address.

That's not the whole truth of course. And if you're typing here, you're part of the 1st world.

Good points!
Hubei province has a population of 59 million (who were all locked down), so not really.
That's a lot of sewage!

According to conspiracy theories, Covid-19 is an engineered super-virus designed to spread through the population and then be activated using 5G radio signals.

If true, it’s probably a sensible precaution to delay the 5G iPhone.
Haha, a nice bit of humour in this thread. I like it!

1.) Another AAPL Analyst who is Slow on the Draw !

2.) AAPL's 2Q20 Earnings Call will most-likely be the week of April 27th, at which time "it" may hit the Fan !

At that time, Cook will need to define what he meant by "temporary," & his answer will probably shock ALOT of people.

If the current trend (i.e., corona updates) continues, AAPL "could" be trading under $200/share by then !

That's still $30/share ABOVE its current 52-week low.

3.) 10% chance AAPL never recovers from this ! ... a surge in iPhone sales due to 5G is just a pipe dream by the so-called pro stock analysts ... AAPL has had two & ONLY two surges in the history of the iPhone, & neither was triggered by a "technology" ... the first was triggered by the increase in size to the 6 & 6+, & the 2nd by the super-hyped 10-year anniversary edition, which was ALSO almost exclusively an industrial design change.

4.) Did Apple's Upper Mgmt get bored with Hardware & Software ?, OR did they simply get consumed with Hollywood Envy ?

Perhaps a combination of the two.

Nothing else explains how Apple let itself get into such a position ! ... i.e., such a reliance on China, especially with the threat of iPhone tariffs most of last year !

Have you had trouble getting on with life despite the flu killing hundreds of thousands of people every year? COVID-19 is shaping up to be a somewhat more severe and contagious flu. It's the unknown that people are afraid of, not a contagious respiratory illness.
There is truth to that. However, if the mortality rate of COVID-19 is as high as some experts estimate, it could potentially kill many more people than the flu.

As an example, during the 2009 H1N1 epidemic, about 60 million people were infected in the US according to the CDC. If the number of infected grows to similar numbers for COVID-19 and the mortality rate is 2%, this means 1.2 million people could die in the US. For comparison, the flu kills about 30,000 people per year in the US.
