Wuhan one of the first to roll out 5G. It was originally developed as a military weapon

I was an example this year of getting the flu in spite of the flu shot. It was actually the first time I ever had the flu test too, so confirmed instead of just treating for the flu.

Though I suspect that the shot reduced the severity. Only bad for 2 1/2 days.
This is 100% true. I got the flu shot and got both flu a and b at the same time, which together would kill some people. That being said it lasted about 3 days and I was back to normal. The flu shot helped the severity of it.

To the crowd that keeps claiming the lethality rate is overblown because of supposed undetected cases, and that most cases are “mild”

Just to put all that in a global perspective:

Each day about 8200 children under the age of 5 die of hunger or malnutrition.

How often do we read about that and more importantly: There is a cure for hunger and it is called food. With all the food we throw away in the first world countries, you could easily feed all these children!

Influenza virus kills approximately 250000 to 650000 per year world wide.
Just like the aforementioned cancer, hunger is not contagious.

According to the CDC, 151k - 575k people died worldwide from H1N1 in 2009. I don’t remember having a conversation about this or witnessing the hysteria that I am with this. If people are this worked up after about 3k deaths — what happens if the death rate comes close to H1N1?
This is a flawed comparison. For one, H1N1 had a mortality rate of about 0.03%, which is less than a typical flu (as you say the numbers you quote are worldwide). And second, we're just at the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic. Nobody knows how many people will be affected. One thing is for sure, it will get a lot worse before it gets better.
Everybody needs to relax and be smart about this. We need effective leaders to help us through this, and you can’t lead with panic.
True, but downplaying the risks doesn't help either.

You don’t know if it’s going to get worse then better. You also don’t know if this virus will still be transmitted during warmer months. There are a lot of assumptions at this point from both sides. It’s new and we also live in a much more pessimistic society these days so I’m not surprised people are freaking out. We don’t know the outcome of this. Based on statistics alone, the flu is still far worse and as of now the flu has killed many many more people than COVID. Will that be the case in 5 months? Who knows, but as of now we have what we have. Social media, and our mainstream media have created this fear mongering. That’s clearly obvious. Most rational people will do their due diligence. Wash hands, stay home if sick, cough in their elbows but continue to move on with life. Just like every other flu season that takes the lives of 60k plus people each year. If you’re one of those people afraid to go out of your house. I feel sorry for you. That’s no way to live an already short life we have on this planet. When it’s your time it’s your time. Nothing can stop that.

The fact that you think that uncertainty is a reason NOT to worry, and that you think there are “sides,” is what is going to cause lots more people than necessary to die.

Yes, we do know that. We already know the approximate range of the spread rate, and there is no vaccine and no cure yet. Epidemiologists can pretty much predict what will happen at this point. The only way this could change is if a cure is discovered and mass-manufactured sooner than anyone expects.

Large companies around here and in other places around the world are starting to tell their employees to work from home where possible. This is very real.

Given that no vaccine is available, and at soonest we’re looking at a year and a half, perhaps it’s a bit premature to tell people to get on with their lives.
First of all, the getting on with your life scenario happens with many other viruses.

Do you think this is the only virus around with no vaccine?

Secondly, a year and a half is overly pessimistic. There are already drugs (therapies) showing promise and promising vaccines in trial stages.

1) No, there are no vaccines in trial stages yet. The closest one is still “weeks” away from even BEGINNING testing, and that comes long before trials. Every reputable source says a year and a half at the earliest.
2) No, there is no other virus with this R0 and lethality level that is “around with no vaccine.”
3) No, there are no drugs (therapies) showing promise with respect to this virus yet

I really don't mind them introducing an iPhone 11S, 11S Pro and 11S Pro Max utilizing the same design as last year's. Give us some minor improvements, maybe sub-6GHz 5G, 90Hz ProMotion display (for the Pro models) and an all-OLED line-up. They can save the sub-6GHz + mmWave model for next year.

The death rate is already way higher than that, especially in the oldest groups.

Hence hysteria.

Meh. You’re either going to get sick or you’re not. Many of us are going to get cancer one day too, but is it worth spending every day of your life worrying about it?

Of course it’s sensible to take precautions, but are you really going to spend the next year-and-a-half living in panic, fear and isolation?

Comments like this are so puzzling. People need to remember that the Flu and this COVID-19 virus are *contagious*, and that people can be carriers for it and pass it onto other people without knowing they have. You can't compare this to cancer because it's not a contagious `droplet` disease. You can't get cancer from touching your mouth, but you can catch a virus.

The downplaying of this coronavirus by so many people is concerning, and those may even be people that contribute to it spreading because they are not taking it seriously enough. As these virus situations get worse (and they will!), there needs to be laws that hold such people accountable for their behaviour, if they fail to adhere to strict guidance for containing the spread around their communities.

"Why are you in jail?" ..."Oh, I didn't stay home when I had a runny nose and 10 people got sick from me and died." ... "Oh."

the flu shot doesn’t protect you from much. I’ve never gotten one. I have many friends and relatives that have and they’re the ones who wind up getting the flu 🤷🏿‍♂️

I want to ask ... do you know what the "flu shot" is?

It's a lab-grown sample of the flu virus that causes your body to build up an immunity to the virus in the wild. So you're actually being injected with the flu virus, which is why some people do get sick, but it's likely far less severe than if they did not get the shot at all.

I don't get the flu shot either, but some people insist on it. My mom, for example, got it religiously.

You can’t extrapolate the current mortality rate, period.

There are drugs and treatments showing signs in both therapy and vaccine.

This has started:

Of course, this is just the beginning stage, but many companies are working toward this quickly.

Takeda has a plasma therapy they are starting to test now.

I never said anything is set in stone, but it’s not going to take 18 months.

Even if it does, the mortality rates will drop precipitously if it starts infecting any large number. The most respected virologist has said that.

You, like the media, are overreacting and that’s causing far more harm than the virus.

You can keep saying it, but it’s false. There are no vaccines even being tested yet. Why are you trying to spread false information?

And? I posted a few as well. There is tons of evidence our companies are working on various ways to stop this and the number of cases isn’t high enough to extrapolate mortality.

At the time he replied, you hadn't edited them into your own post, so the chance of him seeing them before posting is about 0%...
