'Future of the Mac' platform....sure, they've said that before. But a major transition is, allegedly, happening next year.
You misquoted. The quote is “future of Apple platforms.”

Apple has consistently referred to its operating systems collectively as some variation of “Apple platforms,” as they did here and in the blurb at the end of the press release. They are referring to the “future of Apple platforms”; they are referring to the next major versions of their operating systems. The other special event during WWDC, the Platforms State of the Union, digs deeper into significant, primarily developer-facing changes to the operating systems than Apple wanted to go during the keynote, which is decreasingly oriented toward developers and more toward the general public.

That doesn’t necessarily preclude an announcement of an ARM transition and perhaps even test hardware — or other hardware announcements, for that matter — but people are placing far too much weight on Apple’s traditionally flowery press release copy.

There's no invitations this year. If you have a developer account– even a free one– you'll be able to see the sessions, just like in the past. I'm sure any keynote event will stream just as it always does. If Apple was going to require paid developer accounts to see the sessions, they'd be making that statement in this press release.

Don't need a developer account to see WWDC sessions.

For example everything from WWDC 2019 is here:

https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc2019/

Without a developer account and the WWDC app the videos are delayed a bit ( a days or sometimes ) but access to the talking sessions hasn't been limited for several years. the app is conveient if viewing on iPad, AppleTv ( or constrained to an iPhone for some odd reason), but a decent web browser works. [ The annotated text transcript takes a couple of weeks. ]

What about enthusiastic non-developers? Will they be streaming it on the Apple website too, as before?
No, there will be a quiz beforehand to keep out the non-developers ;)

That sounds to me like the overture to an ARM transition.
Eh, I think they say things like that every year.

I think if we see more products it may be at WWDC

Macbook pro 14 inch
This sounds so much to me like the bit where a man asks a woman for a date and she says. “Not unless you were the last man on earth”, and he says, “so, there’s a chance”.

They just released a 13” MBP. There won’t be a 14” any time soon.

Well, the Animoji suggest this WWDC will be focused on the Mac. First look at macOS on ARM. Eligible devices to run the beta include the 2018 and 2019 iPad Pros.

Really hoping for an update of intels new processor for the MBP 16” soon. Just waiting to place an order but I know I will regret it if I don’t wait for the update.

No new rumors or news about that?

WWDC last a week, I believe this is simply referring to the access that only those invited get to attend. I would think the normal keynote is still going to be streamed live on Apple's website.

"Apple does plan to hold a keynote event, presumably on June 22 when WWDC begins."

Keynote wasn't the only video folks had access to. Just isn't 'live'. State of the Union and most sessions are available once Apple preps them for viewing.

I doubt the keynote will be "normal". A significant amount of the keynote is structure around a dog and pony show where they are eliciting audience reaction ( in part with "stuffed" rows of Apple employees clapping for their own projects ). Unless they add their own canned laugh/clap/audience track that isn't going to work. ( Maybe they are going canned Hollywood sitcom, but I suspect that will not go over as well as they think. )

The keynotes are too fracking long. It isn't a Marvel Avengers movie. There is an excuse when it is all live but is the dog and pony show going to be live? ( taped demos would guarantee can remove any on stage glitch with some edits. ). Apple would do better if chopped it up into pieces and do away with time sink demos ( Other tech companies too. Stuff that goes past 1 hour - 1 hour 30 mins ... folks will be doozing off / on as some point past that. Attention spans don't last that long. )

Guess we will see in a month. Gives apple an excuse to show off products and not take shine away during the fall keynote

Fall keynote is extremely likely going to slide at least as far as the WWDC does. Maybe into October if iOS and/or new iPhone hardware is sliding.

will be telling as to what kind of shape the beta of iOS , macOS , etc are at the end of June. If more flakey than last year then Fall keynote probably will slide more. Repeating last year's repeated stumbles out of the gate would be bad. ( yes, Apple supposely 'fixed' their release process but this isn't a normal environment for developer baseline either. Even weakness in the 'fixed' process will likley get exposed. The feedback from WWDC 'labs' isn't going to be as immediate and direct. etc. etc. )

It may feel like a long time when you’re not sitting there, but in the hall, it doesn’t feel long at all.

Arrgggh!!! Age discrimination!

There's no way for us (loyal) older and past retirement age app developers to win jackets or pins!

(at least we could try to win the WWDC lottery the past few years).

(some of us even already have ARM software development experience on Apple hardware: see Newton :)

looks like they basically confirmed an ARM MacBook, why else would the image show MacBooks...

Errr , because more Mac developers use a laptop to develop.
Go back and look at pictures of previous WWDC award winning apps where Apple attaches some pictures of the developers and they typical work environments. It is mostly laptops.

Laptops and developers largely just go together. The notion that "real" developers need a Mac Pro (or iMac Pro) or can't get anything substantive done is way overblown.

I'm stoked but was hoping WWDC20 would be in the beginning of June

Global pandemic. Apple shifted most of workforce to working 100% at home. Google completely cancelling Google I/O ... Apple WWDC was going to be "on time" how?

2-3 weeks of productivity disruption isn't going to gel a better better "Beta' by the usual deadline at all. WWDC really isn't primarily about the dog and pony show keynote. Apple has to have reasonably stable beta versions ready to do the event. Labs are usually a critical part of the event far more so than the keynote.

"WWDC20 will be our biggest yet, bringing together our global developer community of more than 23 million in an unprecedented way for a week in June to learn about the future of Apple platforms," said Phil Schiller

If last 2-3 WWDC's betas are a reliable indicator, then they could hand out jackets and pins as prizes for significant bug reports. ( library XX breaks here with this flaw. ... not the more general "I don't like" or "favorite feature stopped working" stuff. )

Not sure how Apple is going to reimagine Lab sessions into this location-less WWDC but jackets and pins there for the subset they let in could be possible for that too.

Pretty good chance Apple had already ordered up the swag ... so it won't be surprising if they have more swag give aways through the mail attached to this by some sort of selection criteria.

my hope is that they know OS X for intel is withering and will rewrite it for ARM and it will be nicer and bug free. Crossing my fingers.

23” iMac is not confirmed. People said the same thing about a 14” MacBook and yet it’s still only 13”
The 14” pro is definitely coming. The rumour always was stating a late 2020 release. Back in November there actually was a leak stating the pro would be staying 13” at this refresh which it did
