This is why I love Apple and the fans :) Very fun and create!

P.S. I just got back today from visiting Silicon Valley and the Apple campus and you can feel the excitement over the launch in the air there. Also ran into "Jos" on campus, nice guy :)

I'm excited for this week!

Unless they change the phone to be able to lock orientation both in portrait OR landscape, I couldn't disagree more.

Ya, on the iPhone that would make even LESS sense with the aspect ratio going even wider to 16:9. Landscape home and lock screen would be very awkward like that! On the iPad is does make sense though, hence the reason Apple did it.

You say this, but give you a blank sheet of paper to design something and there are so many possibilities it's bewildering. Often, numerous ideas are courted but then you might decide on something that to the masses seems to have not had a lot of thought put into it. But believe me, it definitely has.

It's so much easier to comment (negatively) on an idea that's been shown rather than trying to come up with your own one.

No.

Chances are there was a very distinctive concept Apple wanted to convey. I'm not gonna sit here and say all this wasn't intentional. I don't believe that, but simply stretching a few icons to either represent a longer screen, the iPod nano color line, or whatever doesn't constitute super cleverness that many are saying here.

Many are getting worked up on something pretty basic at its core.

The '12' casting a shadow of a '5', now THAT was ****ing clever. Worked beautifully on so many aspects.

Take 2 :)

If its just taller and not wider, I will be skipping this one and giving the NOKIA 920 or 820 a try.

The OS , the hardware ....The Camera , All Outstanding. The Screen - Perfecto

I just don't understand one thing..
You keep pasting images of the Nokia phones EVERY SINGLE TIME.

It's like you're some sort of ad-bot from Nokia lol

EDIT: OK, they are already higher-res, the iPad didn't show it, stupid me, it's a retina display :)

For those who need higher-res images, just click his Flickr link and get them there.

errr ahh isn't IOS6 coming in September? Maybe that will be announced with a new iPod Touch?? I'm getting tired of taking 2 mpeg photos

lol

I know what opinions are. ;). If the iPhone comes out on Wednesday and some don't like it, go buy something else. No one is stopping you and quite honestly I don't think anyone else cares. :)

actually...i do care. one less phone sold in the crazy opening weeks...will increase my chances of getting one myself ... lol
:D

As crazy as it sounds, I think there is going to be a thermometer built into the new iPhone.

I've written a blogpost that goes into more detail here explaining what I think the icons are in the background:

He's probably getting paid either from Microsoft or Nokia. If you visit Engadget lots of die-hard windows fan popping out in every article.

Interesting but most people keep the phone in their pockets so it's going to read body temp most of the time. Or am I missing the point?

Wow I am amazed that people picked this apart. This just goes to show you that Apple designs are under incredible scrutiny these days. I don't think it reveals any secrets about the event just the secret behind the design chosen for the side of the building.

Totally agree. I think the designers just needed a color palette that was in line with the iPod and iPhone graphical styles, and they chose some key art from iOS. I can almost guarantee that an art director somewhere said, "We need a splash of color and an apple logo for the side of the building. Make it happen." and they came up with this execution, never thinking that people would be able to decode where they got it from.

Aaaannd again, we already have an answer....

Not really, that image has been devised from the Macstories mockup showing how the effect was created.

If you use Bas Relief as suggested on the original window display (not the macstories version) it looks nothing like this.

Most have been correct but there are two main icons that have not been identified, the centre icon, which is blue fading to red - I believe this is a thermometer (http://bit.ly/thermometerIn5),

also the icon to the right of this appears to show a tree (no idea of what this is or what it could be).

......interesting. Hmm....

Looking at this wallpaper, here is what I can see!

Left to Right:

1st icon - Stocks
2nd icon - Music App
3rd icon - GameCenter reversed
4th icon - iTunes
5th icon - Safari (with the red compass part facing down)
6th icon - looks like Stocks but with the top half green and the bottom half blue
7th icon - upside down Music app
8th icon - GameCenter
9th icon - ?

.....that's what I can see while looking at the wallpaper on my iPhone and then twisting around to see it from all angles!!!!

iTunes is seriously bloated. It would be great f it is streamlined for usage. Hoping for ap 4 and ios6 to drop same day ( doubt it though since ios6 would drive sales of the 5 since people want to use it so bad). Prob gonna have iTunes movie match as well. That would be. AWESOME!

Is that not a recreation by a third party though? Same with the one on MacStories? As far as I am aware, at this time, the only genuine version of the image is what is stuck on the windows for the event :)
