......interesting. Hmm....

Looking at this wallpaper, here is what I can see! Image

Left to Right:

1st icon - Stocks
2nd icon - Music App
3rd icon - GameCenter reversed
4th icon - iTunes
5th icon - Safari (with the red compass part facing down)
6th icon - looks like Stocks but with the top half green and the bottom half blue
7th icon - upside down Music app
8th icon - GameCenter
9th icon - ?

.....that's what I can see while looking at the wallpaper on my iPhone and then twisting around to see it from all angles!!!!

Also, a couple of other points on the image you posted:

1) The Apple logo is a little flat on the far left, like it has been cut off slightly - Apple are very protective of their brand and their is surely no way they would put something out like this.

2) The drop shadow/outer glow on the logo is a little heavy, again, not sure Apple would go for this as their branding is very clean/crisp. If they had to use a drop shadow/outer glow (which is possible on the multicoloured background), they would do so sparingly... might be completely wrong but just my 'two cents' :D

And the inlays are just a bit off-center. :)

....actually - to be honest, you are quite correct!

That image WAS by a 3rd party put together as a wallpaper for an ios device so its quite possible the icons have been jiggled about!

Did this end up meaning anything with the new iPad guys.....

People pay a crazy amount of attention to things. I would have never even noticed.

Hahahaha, I would've never seen that!
So if this hints at a taller iphone, what will their "slogan" for this phone be?
"Let's stretch it out"? I mean I've seen all the rumors about the alleged "new iPhone" but something just doesn't feel right with this. Apple wouldn't do this. And since Tim Cook said that they would "double down" och secrecy, I'm really looking forward to wednesday's reveal. Not because I want to see the phone that we've all been seeing for 2months, I want Tim Cook to chock us!

Please god, let this be an awesome phone, let it rip down the S3 as the dominant force, let it be as beautiful as only Apple can make it. I really need it. My old iPhone broke and I need some good news right about now (Wednesday).

maybe be combined into a single new app...?

Phew.. what break down!..

I would just like to add that i thought the green (5th) was obviously the phone icon.
On further thought, its the messages icon. The blue representing text bubbles in the app..

One final thought is that, the phone and message app maybe be combined into a single new app...?:apple:
A new phone/message/contacts amalgamation?

Any who, just a thought:rolleyes:

"you never think you 'll see the day.....until you do!"

This thread is a sure sign that the hype surrounding this new iPhone is overheated, and this level of overanalysis and conjecture probably looks ridiculous to outside observers.

Of course, speculation on the reason for the stretched icons points to the long-running rumors that Apple will be introducing a taller iPhone with a 4" diagonal screen.

... a diagonal screen, i want that... or maybe a trapezium, or a circle

Is it just me or does no one think this means blisteringly fast speeds? Surely the taller screen would be retina quality and nothing would be stretched like they do for the iPhone apps on iPad.

Ps. Sorry haven't read thru the 500+ comments to see if someone else already noticed this.

Interesting but most people keep the phone in their pockets so it's going to read body temp most of the time. Or am I missing the point?

I would say you were missing the point

That's kinda like saying "well why have a camera as most people keep their phone in their pockets so all you will get is pictures of pocket fluff" :D

You would need to take the phone out of your pocket if you wanted to use the thermometer (if it exists lol... speculation of course) as you do with anything else. Also it would have benefits with regards to safety - I have updated the post with some more information:

Yes but a camera turns on instantly. Most thermometers I have used take time to get to the temperature of the surrounding air. The body heat would stay in the phone for a few minutes at least.

The difference of course being the lag time, between taking the phone out of your pocket and the thermometer temperature adjusting .. not an issue with a camera, big issue with temperature.

Nice idea .. but personally I would much rather have an fm radio, than a thermometer ..

Same here... Radio would be much more useful - though TuneFM do a pretty good job (other radio apps are available :D).

However, the iOSNova article I mention in my blogpost states that the rumours state it would be added for safety e.g cut the phone off if it is left out in the sun and gets too hot.

Now it would be silly for Apple to add such hardware and then not bother creating a simple app for it - same as the compass - I do not know anyone who has used the compass app for a real reason.

Also, the temperature thing is total speculation, I am basing it on the fact that the icon is in the left 4 which are upside down and so it is red fading down into blue with what appears to be a green bar up the side. The only thing I can imagine that would look like this is a thermometer.

Radio would be good (not Internet radio)

In saying that, I was in the car the other day (I'm in the UK) and went through a remote area - radio signal cut out but my phone signal was on so connected my iPhone to the car stereo and used Tune FM lol

(That was traditional radio - not digital, unsure if the coverage is better using digital).

As crazy as it sounds, I think there is going to be a thermometer built into the new iPhone.

I've written a blogpost that goes into more detail here explaining what I think the icons are in the background:

God I hope not. What a pathetic "feature". Need to know the temperature, check the weather app.

If there was a thermometer app it will be another wasted icin we can't get rid of.

Useless yes, but no more so than the weather app - I never get accurate weather info from it :/

Interesting idea. What if it was one of those no-contact thermometers that you point into your ear canal and it reads instantly?

If they put the sensor beside the phone's earpiece, the phone could log your body temperature every time you're on a call. Or, to be really clever while on a call, it could crank up the earpiece's volume if it senses that the earpiece isn't positioned directly over your (hot) ear canal.

Maybe iPhone 5's big thing wil be health integration? Heart monitor, exercise/motion/activity tracking, that sort of thing.

Maybe some people need to check the temperature of their pocket?
