It also looks like we will have landscape home screen!

that's a good point - perhaps they are expecting people to hold it sideways a lot more with the new screen height. It would make sense especially if they start adding in iPad features such as the break apart keyboard and the new screen would be great for games like Galaxy On Fire II.

Found the following pic on another website - seems to be a larger version of the original banner - maybe?!

The missing icon.

I believe it's the safari icon upside down, but with green added because blue on blue next to each other wouldn't look good.

The reason I think it's the safari icon is because the North facing dial appears towards the bottom (from what I see). I could be wrong, but we also could be looking into that too much.

So the icon we haven't figured out (I assume that's still the case, as I can't read through 550 comments at work).. could that be the combination of SMS and iMessage? It's green and blue, which would be the two colors your texting shows up as depending on the way it's sent. Hum.

apple's new own maps app

It's the view from the new flyover feature!!

Maybe the icons are supposed to be viewable from the new Fly Over version of maps??? it would replicate putting our noses on top of our ipad and looking down at the "stretched" version of the picture! Maybe they'll have an updated satellite image of the Yerba Buena center from the flyover view! :apple:

I think this is the best theory on why they are stretched yet!

For me, more sensors are always better, because they give you more possabilitis to use your phone for different purpose.

BUT, thermometer sensor wont work well, because the device itself generate heat, from battery and CPU, so its unlikely to see this feature, at least in this iPhone.

I want to see water ressistance, improved camera, improved display for direct sunlight, better CPU and GPU performace, magsafe like conector, improved voice recognision, LTE and brand new iTunes, faster, easyer to use and indepedent from the iPhone. Backup, setup, restore and everything without iTunes, just the iPhone itself.

I thought the same, but look at the latest leaks, the back camera is aligned now.

It seems like earlier prototypes temporarily used the iPhone 4S's camera which was larger and couldn't be aligned properly. Now that the real new camera is being produced it looks much better since it can be aligned.

Hmm, a smaller lens isn't a good thing. A larger lens can take in more light - allows for better low light photography and sharper pictures when there's an abundance of light

Though admittedly I can't see past the protective layer too well. Maybe the actual lens is still a reasonable size

Agreed. I've been using the wrong term. It should be pyrometer, not thermometer:

A pyrometer is a non-contacting device that intercepts and measures thermal radiation, a process known as pyrometry. This device can be used to determine the temperature of an object's surface.

That's interesting. I wonder if the smaller camera lens tells us anything about what sort of tech they might be using in the camera. I doubt they would put out a handset with a less capable camera after all.

In general I think this new design looks good. We should certainly wait and see the final product before passing judgment.

If it was anyone but Apple I'd agree with you. But Apple has such an ardent base of customers that are so devoted to Apple they truly believe the company is acting in the customers best interest.

These customers worship & trust Apple even more than they trust themselves, they just sit back & wait for Apple to release the next product for them to buy without hesitation.

To verify this, there's thousands of posts on this very forum making statements that prove it. Apple is nothing if not cunning.
Well I totally agree with you that there are many devoted fans, and even if the new iPhone looked exactly like iPhone 4 & 4S and only had LTE and a faster processor, they would still love it and think it's the next big thing.

However the rest of us have a more pragmatic approach to the whole launch and a taller phone is probably not enough to excite such people - there are bigger, (quite possibly) faster, thinner, more capable (trying to avoid the word 'better') phones out there.

However we haven't seen the phone yet, so there might be some interesting new features we don't know about.

Unknown icons...

Being that the Game Center icon is a service of sorts, what if the upside down looking icon is a new service offered by Apple... maybe a music streaming service like Pandora? Also, what if the center icon is part of the wallet or the new proximity technology that Apple might offer on the new iPhone? I am just speculating, but it seems very likely that there will some new things. One last thought, maybe it will be related to a Gaming section that is interactive with the AppleTV? I have always said that the AppleTV and iPhone/iPod could play nice with the AppleTV like a gaming console.
