What a choice: Cannot use 3G data and talk vs. Cannot use 3G data or talk.

ATT is not that bad, but their 3G coverage is poor relative to Verizon. Moreover, its quite well documented that Verizon is overall the more reliable network of the two.

AT&T is at the disadvantage of having been SWAMPED and overloaded by iphones for 5 years now.. Verizon is soon going to find out what real network traffic feels like.

Give it a couple of months and let the dropped calls and bad service complaints start rolling in.

Considering all the complaints people have had about AT&T, that number is rather pitiful.

I know... You'd think those percentages would be reversed considering the vocal minority here and elsewhere on ATT's horrid service.

Of course, the Verizonites will say wait until another year when all the people who purchased the iPhone 4 and thus locked into ATT for two years are no longer contract bound... ;)

But, I still think those numbers will only increase to a balance close to 70/30... ATT favor... Better the devil you know and ATT is not as bad as some would have you believe...

So who is Chitika exactly? And how would they possibly know what kind of iPhone I have? I haven't registered anything with them. I've never been to their site. Seems like a whimsical figure to me. It also seems highly unlikely that Verizon will have sold several million iphones they didn't know about and I don't think their activation figures will support the percentage. I say that without looking up the exact figures, but it seems off.

They are an advertising network, and when you happen to surf onto a page that has their ads in it, your traffic information is logged. They know roughly where you are located, what browser your are using, and what internet provider.

I guess they then extrapolate.. they see mobile safari, and verizon internet, then they know its a Verizon iPhone.

On the other hand if they see Mobile Safari, AT&T internet, then they know you are an AT&T iPhone.

They can't launch an iPhone 5 this summer, the Verizon iPhone 4 just came out, and plus the white iPhone 4 will be coming out to both carriers soon too!

Visual Voicemail Question

Going off topic a bit here... but I am curious..

Does Verizon support Visual Voicemail?
Also, do all the international partners support it?

I don't hear the term anymore.. havent for a long time..

Good question, i haven't used voicemail in a long time..

here we go ... AGAIN!

Oh darnit. Here we go again. Every 3-4 weeks do a PR release huh Chitika. Good way to keep your name in the media. What better way to get free publicity? Mention, Apple, AT&T, Verizon and iPhone 5 in any order and folks will be surfing your site and talking about your company all over the techno/blogo sphere. It will be interesting to see the final numbers though "after" they have been reported.

At the time of the Verizon iPhone launch just over a month ago, we pointed to a live tracker set up by mobile ad firm Chitika measuring the balance of AT&T and Verizon devices registering on its network. At the time, just one day after the device launched to the general public, the Verizon iPhone accounted for 3% of the U.S. iPhone base as measured over a rolling 24-hour window.

Chitika has continued to monitor the iPhone balance in the U.S., and today reported that the Verizon iPhone now accounts for 12.7%, or over 1/8th of the U.S. iPhone base, although the Verizon iPhone's share has since sunk to 11.9% due to measurement fluctuations over time.Apple has of course been expanding its partnership with Verizon in recent months, beginning with packages including the original iPad and a MiFi hotspot device before moving on to the iPhone 4 last month. And just last Friday, Apple debuted the second-generation iPad, which comes in a series of models directly compatible with Verizon's network.

Can't wait to pick up my Thunderbolt on Thursday. :D'

Iphone 5 is what, July?

You have to be crazy to pay all that money for an android phone.

I like my inspire because it cost me only $20 and the huge screen and its good enough for what I want in a smartphone. Otherwise Android is crappola and I bought an iPad2 on Friday and its awesome

Sweet. That is fantastic growth even after a questionable launch. I would love to see the iPad results too.

What are you talking about? It was a perfect launch. It was well organized. Way before it was available in the store existing customers could pre-order, than after that batch was handled, new customers could pre-order and it became available in the store. Thanks to great handling before launch day, there was no need to form lines in front of the store because everyone wanted to have one right away had pre-ordered.

You know, long lines are not necessarily a good thing and no lines are not necessarily a bad thing.

It was well planed, organized and executed and successful launch.

I guess they then extrapolate..

Just playing devils advocate here, but I wonder if Chitika is possibly so big that they can get a decent respective data sample so they can provide meaningful information. It would seem bogus to me that Apple could even begin to produce and sell 12% of their total US iphone output in what? six weeks maybe?. No freakin way. I'm not knocking or promoting Verizon or AT&T. I think way too much is made out of the differences. But I am also suspicious of strange statistics. I suspect that Chitika is trying for a little bit of free promotion and some blogger fell for it hook line and sinker.

big brother is watching you .... better don't launch any apps with ads in them

Its a combo of the fact that most don't want to pay the ETF and many also realize that Verizon is really no better than AT&T (in most areas).

I don't buy the ETF argument because each of these iPhone users is sitting on their ETF money. Just sell the iPhone on Ebay, ect and you have the ETF fee.

It's the next generation snapdragon (granted only single core) but 768 ram, 8 gb insternal and a 32gb mini sd included... not bad for 200-250 (depending where you go).. not to mention actual 4g. ;)

Wrong Conclusion, but a very catchy headline, eh?

Just because 12% of the ads served are from Verizon iPhones doesn't mean that 12% of all iPhones in use are of the Verizon variety.

New iPhone owners are going to be showing off and playing with their iPhone more than the veteran owner, generating more ad traffic. New owners are also more likely to be trying out the free versions of apps that are ad-supported until they've made the decision about which apps to ultimately purchase.

That explanation does not say why 3G coverage for AT&T has been so dismal compared with that of Verizon. True, its not as fast as AT&Ts on average. However, I'd gladly take 700Kbps - 1100 Kbps in 3X as many places rather then AT&T's ~2000 Kbps service.

Also, there are a lot of Android users out there chugin' data on Verizons network, and they seem to do fine.

In unrelated news, I just got my free 1000 rollover minutes today. In related news if Verizon became the only provider I would talk using a tin can and a string.

I am one of those iPhone users who switched.

AT&T was dropping approximately 40% of my calls. Signal indication (3G S) would fluctuate from 2-0 over 15 second intervals. Complaints to AT&T brought the suggestion that I "turn off 3G and use Edge." And that's what I did when anticipating important calls.

A friend got the m-cell booster to solve the same problem, it was "beamy" in that within 'sweet spots' it would be a robust signal, but move 3 feet and the signal completely died.

I got Verizon the very first day. Have not had a dropped call once. Data rate is maybe 1/2 that of AT&T, but I had heard that and was prepared.

The numbers are skewed, IMO, in favor of new Verizon users consuming a lot of data. That's too big a market share grab in too little time.

Oh, and AT&T has written and called me several times to get me back. If they had paid that much attention to me when I was a customer, I wouldn't have left!

Yup. I have to agree. I switched to Verizon for all of the above reasons and just the arrogance of AT&T. There was just no way to find out when 3G would be available in my area, signal was poor, dropped calls, all the rest. Verizon is now much better, altho I do miss not being able to get to the web while on a call, and I'm waiting for the verizon hot spot so I don't have to buy my ipad with 3g.

I wanna see an update when iphone 5 comes out. It's only fair because both will receive a new iphone at the same time unlike iphone 4.

Till then, these numbers dont really mean much.

Not going to happen, partly because Verizon keeps voice and data channels separate.

On the one hand, that means it's nearly impossible to have simultaneous voice + data without some tricks.

On the other, it means that cell data overloads cannot cause dropped voice calls as happens with ATT.

It's not actual 4G though.....
