Apple is about the user experience and they don't want people fretting over cpu, ram, chips etc. They just want their customers to use the device.

And of course Apple is about the margins. They are a for profit company and one of the fiduciary responsibilities of the CEO is the revenue and profits. So there is that.
I know why Apple doesn’t advertise specs and I know how a for profit company works, that’s why I said what I said. Not sure what point you’re trying to make.

This is your original quote: "Exactly. Apple is all about margins, they aren’t going to add more expensive RAM for no reason. This is part of why Apple doesn’t really advertise how much RAM iPhones and iPads have."

It starts off with some supposition/speculation. This makes the quote about ram seem logical, when in fact it's an opinion based on an opinion. Two opinions form a conclusion that is fact based? So I challenged those opinions about Apple being user experiential and not margin driven.

Think about it people. You can use 3 apps simultaneously, each using 5 GB each. A powerful workflow is possible. It’s not a waste of money. Off course, future iPad OS might enhance the limit per app as well.

WOW ! I wander if Android 12 has the same limitation?
Will this be fixed in a future IOS?
Makes buying Ram on the M1 iPad useless at this point.
They guy that pays $2400 for the 16GB M1 is the sucker.
Not necessarily. More RAM means more apps can be opened at the same time.

I guess Apple launched M1 iPad Pro before WWDC just to give developers a few weeks advantage without worrying about leaks of the new hardware. They usually just ask a few bigger developer companies to try the new hardware before it's launched and to prepare something for the keynote. This time it is different, so I guess we will see a lot of Pro apps ported to iPadOS.

Do not buy a tech product based on the promise of future software updates

To be fair, there was never a “promise” from Apple, just people’s assumptions that all this RAM must be there for a reason. This might still be true, we shall find out in 10 days. For now, limiting the amount of RAM to 5 GB makes sense, as the other currently sold iPads use 3 & 4 GB of RAM.

Because 1tb and higher m1 has 16gb that’s the chip they used they don’t mention it as a feature, no app will only work on a few iPads out there they are made for all of them, people that brought the 1tb just for 16gb kinda got scammed
People who bought the 1TB model and had wildly inaccurate expectations that were never inspired by Apple did not receive what they expected.

They only have this ram because the m1 chip has it in the chip and it’s cheaper to use the same chip it’s not for more power it’s just to make you think it’s more powerful iPadOS is not needed for that ram, wwdc will not change anythibg

The m1 does not have ram “in the chip.” It’s in the package. They could easily put a different memory chip in the same package (which they already do for the existing 2 variations).

Well then I'm glad that this is my first iPad, ever. Seems to me like a great time to buy never having owned this device before. I'm excited for WWDC but from what I gathered I won't hold my breath over it. Still, a software update is much to look forward to.

I'm so sick of this mantra. Apple isn't dumb. The OS isn't a one size fits all like windows it even MacOS. The "limitation" is due to the 2020 iPad has 6gb RAM so 1 for system and 5 for apps. The wouldn't have a reason to allow apps to use more than any device has. iOS 15 will up the limit to 16gb.

Surprising to see the kennel of ignorance in these comments. The new iPads are running on the old OS. This limitation makes perfect sense. 2020 iPad has 6GB RAM. So 1GB for the system and 5 for apps. iOS 15 will fix this. I didn't think this would be so hard for people to comprehend.
Yeah, either it was overlooked (a bug), or simply a feature that's due in iOS 15 (or could even be in a point release to 14). I can't imagine the limit is hardcoded in millions of places throughout iOS 14 and it will take 6 months to find them all and change it :D

Again understand the only reason it has 16gb ram is because the 1tb and higher Mac has that built in the m1 chip they just used the same chip to save money that’s it
Problem with your reasoning is … if Apple was going to leave the Ram hindered, they couldn’t advertise the Ram at 16gb. That’s FAR worse than the “throttling” Apple did to keep the device from shutting down. I’m surprised there aren’t more people mad at this already.

I guarantee one of two things. Apple opens up the power capabilities of iPad Pro with full use of Ram and even pro level apps OR a BIG lawsuit.
