Synergy

Synergy works for me in Leopard, but I have to "start" it in the system prefs every time I turn on my computer - even though I have 'Launch Synergy at login' checked. Can anyone else verify that this is a wide problem?

XJournal 1.0.4, which is a Live Journal client crashes on launch in Leopard. 1.0.5 is buggy and doesn't work properly even in Tiger, so I didn't try it. 1.0.6b1 doesn't crash on launch, but does crash if you do try to do anything with it, like click in its window or press a key.

Leopard removed Smart Wrap from the Services menu and from the mail.app Edit menu. Reinstalling Smart Wrap does not put it back in the Services menu. Attempting to install it in mail.app crashes Smart Wrap.

However, Smart Wrap does still work as an application and in TextWrangler. Its Applescript capability also still works.

Cisco VPN & Unison

After updating I had two Apps that didn't work: Cisco VPN & Unison. But both were easy fixes - I just needed to update Unison from 1.7 to 1.8, and Cisco VPN from 4.9.00 to 4.9.01. I also needed to change the ugly new Cisco icon back to the old one, but it still worked...

The biggest headache for me was the App folder. I put my Apps in subfolders so I don't have to sort through them all every time I launch one, but Leopard installs everything in the App folder, not on top of the old version in the subfolder, so all of dock links were screwy until manually moved the new versions in to the subfolders. A pretty minor complaint, but then the reason I use OSX is because it spoils me. ;-)

As others have said, I would also be interested in finding out how Quicken 2005 works.

I have Leopard on the way. So, it would be great to find out in advance before I install it on the system with Quicken 2005.

I have the family pack coming, so I'll still use it on the other systems. But, if it won't work with Quicken 2005, then I'll hold off on that system.

What works:
Skype
Microsoft Messenger
Photoshop CS3 Extended
Dreamweaver CS3
Soundbooth CS3
Toast 8 (burned a Data Mac/PC CD at 24x just fine)
Frostwire
iLife 08
Gallery Plugin for iPhoto
iWork 08
VisualHub
VMWare Fusion
kJams
Stepmania
In The Groove
smcFanControl
Gmail Notifier
FileZilla (Buggy, but was under Tiger too)
Transmission
BitPim (Rosetta Only, otherwise crashes)
Chicken of the VNC
Fink (but could not determine XFree86 version number shows)
Perian (Xvid works fine in Quicklook for me, all my icons are black, but so is the first frame of the movie)
Flip 4 Mac
Audio HiJack (Update Released to work with Leopard)

What does not:
Bitpim (Intel side, Rosetta works)
Inquisition

UPDATE: Inquisition works with PlugSuit!

I upgraded from Tiger 10.4.10. I did not Archive and Install. I do not have a drive for Time Machine, so I have not tested it.

PhotoBooth is sorta spastic. When I switch from the backgrounds to regular effects it likes to put a red tint on everything will it takes a photo. It also crashed on first startup for me once in a great while.

Dreamweaver & Fireworks 8

I read that dreamweaver and fireworks 8 are not 'officially' supported.

Anyone know if don't work?

These are the only two apps (other than my m-audio fastrack pro driver) that I'm desperate to know about!!

thanks :)

EyeTV 2.5 works fine apart from the Edit function which appears greyed out in contextual menus. Not a showstopper but it is nice to be able to edit out adverts ;)

I'm completely unimpressed that Adobe are making no effort to get Photoshop Elements 4 to work with Leopard. That is the current version of the software so I would expect it to be supported.

That's me sticking with Tiger then. (I bought my machine last week so at least I have the luxury of choice)

Why this issue anyway? I ran the same copy of Photoshop Elements 2 across Panther, Jaguar and Tiger and had no compatability issues with anything else either. Why all the issues this time? Not very 'Apple' is it?

Did the upgrade last night, so far I've only had issues with the following...

coreduotemp - scripting error causes it to not run

little snitch - all apps/processes identified as 'kernel_task', the v2.0 beta on their site works correctly.

journler (http://journler.com/) - will fail to run if you have a password set, workaround posted on the site. A new beta version is now available that is leopard compatible.

line6 drivers for pod xt etc (beta versions now available)

istumbler - signal strength graph does not redraw/update properly but works fine otherwise.

MathType

MathType 5.1 won't install at all. I have a horrible feeling I shouldn't have selected the case-sensitive file system option

I don't have Leopard so cannot, can someone PLEASE try Inquisitor with this :)

On the comments on DW's blog, someone says it works, but I would really like conformation. Once Menufela is working, I'm ready to switch. I think it could be a matter of an Application Enhancer update...

I added this on another thread. And, Yes, it works.....

Bill....:apple:

Upgraded my MacBook last night without archiving. I've lost a couple of unimportant widgets and Google Earth Beta. I've been using both Word and Power Point from Office 2004 including adding equations from MathType 5.1 heavily all day with no problems. In fact, they seem to do some things better now. Could just be subjective though. The MB does seem to run a bit hotter now and the fan is working a lot harder more often. Might just be the place I've had it sitting so I'll hold off complaining about it for now.

I'm having a problem with VLC (newest version for OSX).... when I maximize the video (by double-clicking it), and then un-maximize it (by double-clicking again), it fubars the controls along the bottom of the window... it just shows a still image of the video that is playing, and not the control buttons (previous, pause, next, etc.) ... really weird and never happened before I installed Leopard (I know, because I use VLC *alot*).

Shades, the free screen brightness utility, is incompatible with Spaces. It will render mouse clicks inoperable in the first space. The shade effect works in the first space. Mouse clicks work in the other spaces, but Shades doesn't. Go figure!

Forgive the stupid question by an OS X newb, but why would an app stop working on Leopard? Are Apples OS's not backward compatible?

Any new OS has issues at first with certain apps. MacOS, Windows, Linux.. everything..

This is why i'm waiting till the 10.5.1 update before I make the move.

Vista is far from backward compatible.
