If it has a retina display, it WILL have more memory.

I can say that with almost 100% confidence - reason being, the graphics chip uses the main memory to store the display. The expected retina screen has 4x more pixels - so 4x more memory needed. Plus all the images the apps use - they'll all take 4x more memory too.

If you look at it that way, add a retina screen to an iPad 2 and you'd be running out of memory very fast.

Video looks so much better on my iPhone 4 than on my iPad 2. So if the 3 has Retina display, I'll most likely sell my 2 and get the 3, then I'll skip the next version after.

Stick or Twist......Sell now or wait?? ipad 32gb ----> iPad 3???

I currently still have the original ipad 32gb and i have never got it out of my hand, if i have it's replaced with my iphone 4 :O)

Now i love my ipad and also the fact that it can be jailbroken and I'm pretty sure the ipad 3 will take forever to jailbreak if it can be at all this time around with Geohot now having connections/employed by Apple.

See my original iPad does probably everything i want it to do and still think watching Youtube clips looks brilliant and the internet and other functions run smooth enough. The only thing that currently dissapoints me and i get to see this because it's jailbroken, is that some apps slowly start to use up all the ram and then the app crashes. Was this something that stopped when people moved up to the ipad 2 with it having more ram? Have apps that crashed on iPad 1 stopped crashing now on iPad 2?

I hope that it's going to be a big upgrade this time around and not half the things eg. retina and a 1.5ghz dual core and thats it. I'm hoping they can improve everything...Quad core, double resolution, least a gig memory, camera (especially front...maybe front and back equal to make Skype etc better in HD) and improvement in graphics also would be nice.

With Android rapidly getting on the heels of Apple and Apple having a yearly cycle, i hope the go the full hog and make sure that a few months down the line Android doesn't start grabbing their market share.

We can only wait and see, but for now i'm not quite sure if i'm sticking or twisting....probably will twist cos like shiny new toys, however hardest part is if to go a month without my iPad 1 (possibly get around £290 on flea bay) or wait for iPad 3 details to be sure but then if it's aggressivly priced lose out on a chunk of resale value (possibly only get £220 if it is full hog and priced cheaper) ????????:cool:

This!

I want to stop buying gadgets for the sake of it and put some money away for the future instead!

Yeah, i'm thinking of trying to do the same, because i have original that i may sell at weekend in preparation for the 3rd i'm thinking that the iPad 3 will be one i keep for quite some time def wouldn't get the 4th anyhow. Also i have iPhone 4 and they can put what they like on 5 and 6 but doubt i will bother cos happy as i am with the iPhone 4

The capabilities of the iPad 2 are well beyond what it's being used for. Seriously. The iPad 1 was already blazing, then the iPad 2 brought a faster CPU, dual core, and 7x graphics performance. With the exception of a couple of the high-end 3D games, no apps are even close to pushing the system. So quad core or double memory or whatever is not an enticement for me.

The quadruple resolution screen is an interesting case, because I've got an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4, and I can't tell that one is higher resolution than the other. 4x pixels might give an overall crispness that's pleasing, but I guess I'll wait and see.

Good. You can think of the iPad 2 as a perfection of the iPad 1. The perfection of the upcoming major hardware upgrade will be out next year in the iPad 4 (CPU upgrade and LTE in addition to retina display from iPad 3).

resolution != pixel density

The iPad 2 has higher resolution, but the iPhone 4 has higher pixel density.

So going if i have 1 go to 3 or wait for 4?

Android is making great strides, and I'm pretty much decided if Ipad 3 is a dissapointment I'm going to go with Asus's upcomin A700t Transformer Prime, 1920x1080 res, 1gb ram, 64gb storage, MiniSD Slot, tegra 3 quad core.($599), and an optional laptop docking station, so just waiting on the devices to drop

I just picked up an iPad 2 for a discount for Xmas after selling my iPad 1 because it started running poorly with ios5. So unless my iPad 2 starts feeling dated (lag, crashes etc) I'm at least sticking with it until I can get an iPad 3 for a discount.

Have you noticed apps that used to crash on iPad one running much smoother on the 2? Because i have jailbroken it seems some apps eat all the memory and when the memory runs out the app crashes!?

well

Depends on several things: storage, ram, battery life (10 hours is great but if it goes higher > sweet) price, if this retina display is really any better (I'm not seeing a difference on the iPhone 4s).

however the real determination is keeping safe at work internet-wise:

got yet another virus on the work PC today by visiting a non-problematic site I visit daily, made me almost regret selling my iPad 2 a month back.

I am NOT getting an iPad3 (or whatever it is called)

I was planning on buying the next revision of the iPad but my work had a Halloween costume contest...winner gets an iPad. The winner was me, so even though i have not shelled out any of my cash, I will stick with iP2 for now.

It would take the iP3 being insanely great and a half price discount for me to jump at the moment. and that won't happen. I will be fine for a while with the iP2.

I'm currently in the process of selling my 32GB iPad 1 on CraigsList. I listed it for $325 with an InCase Magazine Case and have a few interested buyers, though many more offers in the $280-$300 range; all with the intent of using that money to fund the next iPad.

My reasons being that I feel the first iPad is a bit slow when compared to my friends iPad 2. Plus that it doesn't have cameras (though not that big of a deal for me), and of course the weight difference. If it does have Retina Display then i'm totally sold. If the iPad 3 doesn't impress me too much then I may use the money I get to sell the 1st iPad to fund an iPad 2 (16GB); but primarily hoping the iPad 3 wows me. Nevertheless, am selling the iPad 1 on CraigsList now and will be iPad-less for a month (hopefully not longer).

Well I couldn't even run Infinite Blade 1 past the Start screen on my iPad 1 without a shutdown and a restart. There is no problems with my iPad 2. Everything overall runs faster smoother and not laggy.

That's a bug with Unreal engine based games. I have the same bug with IBII and EPOCH.

There's a funny work-around for it. During the initial splash screen, hold the power button and wait till you see the "Slide to power off" message. Wait until the game loads up, then hit cancel :D

I use my iPad 2 primarily for reading, email, web, and casual games. So I don't plan on upgrading. I'll hold off until the iPad 2 can no longer comfortably run the latest version of iOS.

I probably won't get an iPad 3 unless my fiance and I give her parents our iPad 2 to them first. The only thing that is holding us back from giving it to them last time that they came down to visit us is that they having moved to their new apartment and setup internet yet. For some strange reason, they don't want to setup internet at their current location.

While I can see upgrading from the original iPad to the iPad 2 for the cameras for Facetime, I haven't heard a rumor of a feature that would necessitate me to upgrade. If I have a need for a new iPad before the iPad 4 is released, I wouldn't have a problem with the iPad 3; this is similar to iPhone 4 vs. iPhone 4S debate. If it wasn't for my fiance not wanting her brother to get the new 4S because she is afraid that he'd tear it up, I never would have traded up my 4 for the 4S with him. I was perfectly fine with the 4 and was happily waiting for the iPhone 5.

I usually upgrade every 2 gens for iphones and ipads so I'll probably skip this one.

One killer feature that would make me do the jump sooner would be if they came up with a new screen that was unbreakable. I tend to be *very* careful with the iPad 2 because I know any drop on a hard surface can result in the whole screen getting shattered. If they make the next screen shatterproof, I'll get it just for that.

A retina display will be enough for me to upgrade. The current one was fine when I had an iPhone 3GS, but since getting a 4S, it's just not good enough any more!
