I just ran Geekbench on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015).

Here are how the CPU scores compare:
2015 2.8Ghz i7 -> https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/1046050 (Single-Core: 4414; Multi-Core: 14376)
2016 2.9Ghz i7 -> https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/1043648 (Single-Core: 4276; Multi-Core: 13681)

Here are how the GPU scores compare:
2015 m370x -> https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/compute/228700 (OpenCL Score: 38345)
2016 460 -> https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/compute/228591 (OpenCL Score: 58496)

TLDR; 2015 CPU > 2016 CPU, 2015 GPU < 2016 GPU.

Personally, I ordered the 2.9Ghz, 460, 512GB version of the 2016 15". I'm glad we get an extended testing period for the Holidays; however, I'm disappointed that it isn't a clearer victory for the 2016 model.

Thanks for those Denumerable! My god, the CPU is actually slower than last year's? You suck Intel..

Edit: The i7-4980HQ has a 4.00 ghz turbo speed vs. 3.8ghz for the Skylake i7, that's probably where the difference lies.

Not Intel's fault. Typical Apple fandom response!

Apple made the Macbook Pro thinner. They needed to run the CPU with less heat output.

Welp, managed to get FCPX 10.3 and was letting it conform about 25 clips to optimized codec while I did a couple other things on the web. I went to connect via local network to my other MBP to pull some files over and the touch bar went white then black, the display went black, and I got a full on kernel panic. Rebooted to login screen running at an extremely low framerate, touch bar totally black and Touch ID inactive an unavailable for sign in. Now I'm back in, wondering what that was all about.

Hm. Also seemed like FCPX wasn't using the dGPU - I need to get gfxcardstatus or something but usually the About this Mac dialog will display the dGPU if it's in use rather than the Intel, but with FCP conforming in the background it displayed the Intel graphics.

We'll have to see if I keep getting these. While I'm at the negatives, it feels like there's an electrical "buzz" running through the notebook when it's plugged into power and can feel pretty weird to touch. This electrified feeling goes away when the cable is unplugged. I'm plugged into a surge protector/UPS, too.

In the mobile space there hasn't been much progress in two years but when you consider what an amazing job Intel did with the 4980HQ then it's not bad. That CPU is two years old and has better performance per watt than today's desktop 6700K.

So, I've been reading all the benchmarks, and obviously there are differences between various types of tests - but I just can't figure out - is 455 comparable to 960M and 460 to 965M? Or are they lower? Or even higher?

I'm sorry, I just can't go through all the benchmarks, but if someone could answer, I will be grateful :)

Also, on average, does anyone have any idea how they compare to the M290X I have on my 2014 iMac 5K? And to other iMac GPUs? If anyone has the time and will to answer, of course :) I could probably figure it out on my own if I went through all the benchmarks posted - but maybe someone could draw out some conclusions for me? Thanks!

455 should be comparable to the 950-960M, and Radeon Pro 460 should be slightly slower than M290X.

Well that is very strange. I feel like it should have switched to the dGPU for FCPX, why it did not, i have no idea. What does the electrical buzz feel like? is it like a static charge? or something different.

I just browsed up some other configs, and looks like:
2016 2.6Ghz i7 -> https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/1045974 (Single-Core: 4180; Multi-Core: 12570)

So from 2.6 to 2.9 this year you're getting a very modest increase in performance. At least if the benchmarks are to be trusted.

Hi :)
Thank you for all your screenshots !
Can you try Star Citizen ? It can be interesting to see what the radeon pro 460 can do with this game :p
I'm a mac newbie, do you use parallels desktop or bootcamp to run windows with hardware acceleration ?

Wow really? Now I'm upset, by the way this is caused by having an ungrounded power adapter, it happens sometimes all the way up to the first MacBook pros. Apple knows about it, be should still include the grounded extension plug so it doesn't happen.

Anytime!

Boot Camp is the only way to get true, native uncompromised hardware access - which is why it's taking me a beat to be able to provide some Windows performance numbers.

With the electrical thing, do you have a grounded extension cord you can add to see if it goes away?

I went for the 2.6Ghz with 460 graphics, seemed like best value for money and these benchmarks confirm that I think. Hoping this holds true in further testing.

Hey Macbook Pro 2016...

Not much is going to change though. They might reduce their touchbar model prices by $50-$100 USD over time, but likely by nothing more than that.

I could see this: 6-8 months from now, $50-$100 price drop in all Macbook Pros (2015 & 2016).

In 12 months (give or take), new 2017 Macbook Pro released, prices for touchbar Macbook Pros drop by $50-$100, and new Macbook Pros take on the new price tag.

I doubt more than a $100 price drop over time on the Macbook Pro line, and a 2017 model might just reinforce their current pricing (won't raise it, but might not lower it). They'll (hopefully) make 16GB of RAM base for all Macbook Pros in 2017, but I doubt they've got amazing tech in the works for next year's model... a 1080p or 1440p front-facing camera, faster internals, 16GB of RAM, that's about all they'll have to offer.

So this year isn't bad, in comparison with what is to come... I may buy into the 2016 Macbook Pro if I can manage to sell my camera gear on Craigslist (unsuccessful so far, hard to pro camera gear).

guys... i've seen a lot of benchmarks for the 455 and 460 but not one for the 450?
Did I something miss?

Trying this tonight - I think this is all it is, just never come across it before as I've never used an MBP power adapter without the extension.
Try plugging in the power brick the other way around. Sometimes it helps with the buzzing.
