I'm happy now. But was def. less happy when I first got it. Was actually tempeted to move back to my 3gs for a time. Looking back, my main issues were around the case and accessories. I had my 3gs setup perfectly - in terms of cases and accessories. I was having a lot of trouble finding a solution for the i4 that worked and I liked - felt like I was wasting way too much money chasing crap that didn't work (wrapsol, sonix, bumper, IS etc.)

For me the screen is the killer item. I use my G1 Touch most evenings and it's really amazing the diff bwtween the two after using the 4 all day.

For the record, I don't notice really notice the change in speed.

I'm very happy now.

Best iPhone out of them all. A nice upgrade from the 3gs but still the solid iOS experience. With the strong iPhone aftermarket there is no reason not to upgrade.

I'm happier than I thought I would be with my iPhone4. Got the proximity sensor issue but am happy to live with that until a fix is available. Great phone. :)

Still love it and had it since day 1. The screen still brings a smile to my face, the camera is stunningly detailed for a phone and the speed of webpage rendering means I'm using the laptop less and less. Add to that the battery life being excellent and the phone is great. Shame the proxy sensor caused me to put someone on mute but I'm hoping it's software and can be toned down a bit..

I still love mine, especially the Retina Dsiplay. But at the end of the day, we should all remind ourselves it's just a phone and be concerned about more important things.

Better

It's been better than I thought.

Picked the thing up and went on vacation without reading the tip sheet, or, even making a call first. Never had an iphone before. Turned out to a real "trip saver" with the maps feature, clear view Internet in the car, etc. Invaluable for booking airline changes, etc. when the "free wifi" most places sucked.

Only downside is that it seems heavy to me and gravity loves it. Doesn't help that it's slippery. Got an Otterbox Defender case yesterday and so far it's bulk seems to match the phone's weight - at least in my mind.

I'd go for a slightly bigger screen, and plastic on the back would be fine with me. No problems with the battery, dropped calls, or, anything like that.

All in all, a workhorse of a phone. Glad I waited to get one with as much refinement as Apple apparently eventually added to this one, the 4.

Oh, yeah, the GF wants one now too. She's hoping for Verizon to start carrying it soon. We, from past experiences, can't be on the same network because we hedge our bets for work reasons - if one of us doesn't have signal, the other one usually does.

Although, we've always both had signals everywhere since I got this phone...

I wanted a white one, but other than that, I love mine. :)

It does drop more calls than my 3GS or my 3G... about the same number as my 1st gen iPhone used to drop.

And I can deal with that just fine.

On edit: Retina display... LOVE. IT.

My phone is everything I hoped it would be. Seriously - I have no problems w/ the device or ATT for that matter.

It's interesting reading all of these replies..

Seems like most of you would sacrifice the normal phone functionality (dropped calls, proximity sensor issues) to have a flashy web-surfing device..

Guess it doesn't make sense to me..

Oh my god! How is that Torch treating you! :D;)

I played with one at CostCo and I can't imagine going from the iPhone4's resolution to the Torch!

http://www.technewsdaily.com/comparing-the-blackberry-torch-and-the-iphone-4-0974/

You should really check out the Captivate if you're on At&t and don't want the iPhone4, although I feel like you probably just had a bad handset. All the iPhone4's that I played with ran smooth as butter.

LOL.........dont worry smart people do stupid things sometimes. :D

On par with my expectations, especially after jailbreak. Happy with my purchase and recommend it to anyone looking for a new phone.

Careful... I wouldn't call it a FLASHy web-surfing device. ;)

Love it. I recommend it to anyone who asks. It just needs a good case to deal with the antenna issue and also to make the phone easier to hold. Also, the OS has some minor bugs here and there but nothing major and surely they will be patched.

I prefer to use my devices as they are intended. If it's sold to me in one state, it should work in that state. Apple I think is getting the picture and that's why they are giving out the bumpers now so you will receive it in a working state.

As for bugs being fixed. Bugs maybe, missing features or poor design choices (rare for Apple, but present), I wouldn't hold my breath. I remember Push messaging, CCP, MMS, and most recently Multitasking all too well.

Switching from sprint to AT&T, I'm extremely happy with the iPhone 4 and the service AT&T provides. I love the phone because it does everything I need it to, and I recommend it to people but always tell them that it depends on what they look for in a phone. It may not be for everyone. The only downside I've noticed is a few dropped calls, but i get reception in areas where I never could with sprint, so I'll sacrifice a few dropped calls for decent coverage and a great phone.

Just wanted to hear from all of your on your opinions of the iPhone 4 and just apple in general..

I have had an iPhone since the 2g launch years ago. I was so excited to get the white iPhone 4, but when it was dropped from release the day before I still got in line and got the black one..

I never had so many issues with a phone, dropped calls, laggy, etc. Needless to say I was not impressed..

So these days I am no longer an iPhone user  I have switched to a blackberry torch and iPad combo...

Any apple lovers have the same issues/feelings??

As a person who bought their first iphone now in the 4th generation. I am very happy about it, and I believe I made a wise decision (at least a year of consideration, while checking out the competitors)

As for signal strength, drop calls, etc.... I moved from Verizon and I would be lying if I said ATT was just as good. But!... it really isn't that bad either. People who complain about ATT really embellish ATT's poor signal. I probably get just as bad signal in my house than I did with verizon. Honestly, I don't get very many dropped calls, so I'm satisfied enough to say ATT isn't that bad.

edit: When I was in downtown San Diego, I ran a speed test on ATT's 3G, got 500 kiloBYTES/sec ... bout half of what I get through cable modem. I think thats pretty damn impressive for wireless.

Other phones on the market: I love the android phones, they are great competition for Apple, but the User experience isn't quite there yet, although very close now. No offense, but I honestly can't see how a BB torch (or any RIM phone at the moment) would be better than an i4 (wake up RIM, do something fast or you're gonna be left in the dust), although an ipad is nice :D

The camera on the i4 is reason alone to get one in my opinion.

Hell yes!

I knew I would love it, but it exceeded my expectations. I'm much happier with my 4 than I anticipated.

Maybe you should read what's been posted more closely.
Just taking a random sampling of the responses to your thread would seem to indicate that many of us have had no more issues with dropped calls on this phone than we had with either our previous iPhone, or our other prior cell phones. That has certainly been the case for me.
And I am not in any way discounting the problems some folks have had. They are real and appear to be serious and I feel bad for those who have had those issues. But many, if not most of us replying to your thread, just haven't had them.

Love my iPhone 4. Came from a 3G. Has definitely exceeded my expectations. I love the way it feels, it's FAST, and just works. I know others have had trouble, but mine has been rock solid since day 1. I used it without a case until a few days ago (got my free case and actually like it!), and didn't experience any reception issues. In fact, it's noticeably better than my old 3G or my wife's current 3G.

Anyway, I know people have had mixed experiences. With my 3G, I always wondered if my next phone would be Android. Now, I feel like I've got the perfect phone.

(Note that this is coming from someone who came VERY close to going Droid instead of iPhone 4, so I'm not blind Apple fanatic).

No - I thought/hoped I would be coming from a 3GS but tbh, apart from the screen & camera it's not much of an improvement considering OS4 runs just as smoothly on the 3GS. Unfortunately for me, I sold my 3GS but am returning my iPhone 4 and buying a Galaxy S instead. I was lucky enough to have one to try for a few days and was totally blown away by the simplicity of the phone. I am not saying the iPhone 4 is not simple to use, it is - having come from the other incarnations over the last 3 years but to be able to do things on the Galaxy that I can't do on the iPhone is a delight. Yah, I know I can jailbreak it, but really - why bother to buy a $500 phone if it doesn't do all you need to start with and then end up jail breaking it? Makes no sense to me.

Ok here are some examples - bear with me:

iPhone 4 on 02 (UK) Contract cost me £35 a month for 18months with 300mins, unlimited texts/500mb data + £279 up front for the phone.
TOTAL COST: £909

Galaxy S on Tesco (02) Contract cost me £30 a month for 2 years with 750mins, unlimited texts/500mb data + nothing up front for the phone. Yes, nothing.
TOTAL COST: £720

That's almost £200 cheaper over 2 years.

Likes for the iPhone:

Well built, no denying that.
Flash, useful in some situations
Seamless integration with my MobileMe a/c, itunes, iMac etc
Speed

Dislikes for the iPhone:

No bluetooth sharing. I mean come on, I have an iMac and I can't bluetooth a file to it? Crazy.
Signal - dropped calls on at least 2 occasions in as many days. Yes I have a bumper but wth should I have something round my phone which looks ugly to help a phone which I would have paid £900 for over 18mths make a call?
Totally boring OS - they upgrade the phone significantly, upgrade the software, and they can't make any changes to it? Like personalised home screens, widgets etc.
Weight - dam it's heavy, certainly heavier than my 3GS
Fragile - sooner or later, case or no case it's going to break, well for me maybe. Whereas I felt more comfortable putting the 3GS down on a table, I feel like I have to put the 4 down on a cushion

Likes for the Galaxy S

Screen - in spite of the glorious 'retina' display on the iPhone (which is fantastic btw), the screen is just so much sharper and more coloured than the iPhone. Put them side by side and compare for yourself. Oh and there's the 4" screen, on paper 0.5" doesn't seem much more but Samsung have managed to make it look even bigger by stretching it out to edge almost. Videos look better as well in the correct ratio.
Sound - tiny speaker on the back but SO much louder than the iPhone including speaker calls
Weight - ok it's plastic - no getting away from that. But it feels much better in the hand despite the size and weighs about 20grams less. Slips into pocket nicely, don't know it's there
Android - nowhere near as comprehensive as the App store granted, but nice apps none the less and plethora of customisable widgets, which look great on that display. Loads of other options, great social widget, address book integration, voice guided (free installed on the phone) sat nav, true multi-tasking, bluetooth sharing (paired with my iMac instantly), great UI

Dislikes for the Galaxy S

Looks cheap - but hey, with more features and a £200 saving I can live with that
No flash - major omission from Samsung here, but I rarely take pics at night so again no loss
No push mail - this I will miss as I like this on the iPhone but I can check mail at work if needed.

Already I can hear the click click of the users typing to refute my claims, tell me to go buy Galaxy and never darken there forum again blah blah blah - but it's a Forum, where people are allowed to express their opinions, give advice, take advice, and generally get along with other users in a nice civilised fashion lol.

I'm not asking for anyone to agree with the above or disagree, but the original poster asked if we were as happy with iPhone 4 as we thought we would be - I am not so I have posted.

Have fun!

Absolutely, love it more than I expected. I have had no problems whatsoever. No antenna, screen or proximity or any other problems I can think of.
