I am getting closer and closer to being done with Apple. I will ride out my 6s+ as long as I can and then will look elsewhere. They raise prices and then don't give the consumers the best option for space. The best option is 128gB. Yet they only offer 64 or you pay extra for 256 gB.

They have us by the balls and I am officially fed up with it. Samsung has better displays and the same features for much less.

As someone with an S8, don't do it. The finger print sensor is in such a terrible spot that I don't bother using it. I cannot wait to get back to iOS. Android is still a mess in my opinion. I had to buy an app to disable the bixby button and about 20 other useless apps. I regret giving away my iPhone 6S.

You are using Samsung's bloated over customized version of android. I invite you to use a stock android experience like the google pixel or similar. I wish people would stop relating android to Samsung's customized version of android. Far better android experiences exist elsewhere.

Fingerprint sensor is on front on my S7 Edge. No Bixby button on my S7 Edge (although I'm not sure you would buy an app to disable it anyway - just don't press the damn thing) and I use many of the built-in Samsung apps and love them along with the customization of TouchWiz. And you don't need to buy an app to disable apps. In Android, you just go into apps and say disable. Hmm...pretty easy actually. I'm not sure how anyone can justify the sentence that "Android is a mess"....Sounds like fubar to me quite frankly. Maybe someone who doesn't know what they are doing or bother to work with the device and the OS and understand it?

Really wish people would stop hating on Samsung so much. Each to their own I guess.

Definitely not done with them. But some of these latest apparent revenue/profit-related moves are really bothering me. I've purchased many Apple products, arguably at a premium compared to alternatives on the market, in large part because Apple did not cut corners. They provided premium devices and accessories that "just worked."

That's been changing lately.

Some recent examples that come to mind:
  • Inadequate 15W charging adapter included w iPad Pro, barely increases charge % if iPad in use while charging
  • No longer including 2M Lightning cable w iPad Pro (as was included w 2015 iPP 12.9); 1M cable now included
  • $50 price increase for 256/512GB iPad Pro buried under keynote and related news headlines
  • iPhone 8/8+/X fast-charge capability advertised; footnotes indicate 29W USB-C power adapter required (not included)

I wouldn't say I'm done with Apple, but I may be done buying the newest phone. I have a newer iPhone 6S Plus (less than a year old). I switched back last Spring after getting the 7 Plus in December. After the screen went out completely after 3 months and still making payments on a brand new iPhone 7 Plus from Verizon, only to get a replacement (refurbished I'm sure). I sold the 7 Plus a few months later when I had the opportunity to buy a 6S Plus cheap and go back to what I had originally. The 6S Plus has been solid for me and is even faster with iOS 11 now and it's completely paid for. I don't really foresee spending $700-1,000 for a different phone that won't do anything different for what I use on the 6S Plus now.

It's £130 more here and if we wanted 256GB you are looking at £280 more for the iPhone x over the note 8 which is nuts

That said I will likely get the iPhone x if I don't get the note 8 soon lol

Have to wait it out and see the contract prices on EE and compare
Meh despite the atrocious price I don't think I'll be able to stop myself getting the iPhone X. I just don't want to break my ecosystem. Perhaps I'm being lazy. Anyhow at least pre-orders don't start for a while which will give me time to get together some funds as I want to buy it outright.

this is my issue

I love my apple watch/air pods/apple TV and ipad pro

I just couldn't break that up...I just need to sell myself my 7 plus is great and when I get the iphone x i will get it when i get it..

I was put off by the price and time frame but will just wait it out and get it when i get it i guess.

I will see how much I can get for the note 8 when it arrives and work out if it's worth selling or just returning and cancelling the contract. I'll need to keep my 7 plus until I get a new iPhone.

The note 8 is a great phone, better than the iPhone X but I have no desire to change my ecosystem. It just works.

Ah well I got further this year. I actually pre-ordered the note 8. Every year I complain and then admit defeat. At this point it's the ecosystem that is keeping me here. I also just bought the new iPad Pro 10.5 so there's that too.

The iPhone X is nice and I did like a few of the new features (portrait lighting, animoji, gurstures) but it isn't amazing.

You don't need to break the ecosystem. Just get a 2016 model or something fully functional and meets most of your needs to keep iOS if that's what you want. I think you're set with the Note 8 in terms of a flagship. In terms of iOS, you can keep the 7+ and still be extremely relevant on iOS.

how long do you get until you can cancel it when you get the device?

this is why apple are so good and clever people know they are so invested in the products it's damn hard to leave or move.

I would love to get the note 8 but couldn't cope without the ecosystem

For $70 more... a huge performance increase, the screen, and iOS make it worth it. No?

Not so much. Especially how aggressive Samsung is with pricing and freebies. Many aren't paying the actually $930 because of Note 7 ownership or pre-order freebies or trade in promos. The screen isn't up to the Note 8's level because it doesn't support a stylus as of now. A11 processor is crazy good, don't get me wrong. iOS also isn't on parity with the iPad version of iOS. Also, you'll need to pay $74 to get quick charging, so it's more than $70 at stake.

I've got 14 days to cancel.

I tried it with the S7 edge last year and although the note 8 is an even better phone I couldn't fit it in.

It's the ecosystem. I know I can't get it elsewhere. Also there is a guarantee when you buy from Apple that your device will be supported.

I wouldn't ever consider buying a Samsung phone outright. Always buy on contract so I have the protection from the carrier before if I have any issues.

Damn, it's amazing how time has changed. I went from not considering Samsung with the Note 8 because of Touchwiz to agreeing to swallow my pride and get one. You were pretty set on getting the Note 8 and forgoing the iPhone until today. Now, we switched positions to where I am happy to get a Note 8 and you might be content to get the iPhone X. If you want to go for it, by all means, but I just wanted to point out you can still enjoy both worlds if you can afford it. Either way, hope you get the phone experience you want to enjoy and it works out well for you!

This is what apple does to us

When the keynote ended I was convinced i was skipping the iphone x and getting the note 8 but after a few hours of thinking and viewing the hands on videos i was turned again.

this is what apple does to our heads

I don't know about you guys, but Samsung works with Osx, such as, imessaging or airdroping type...dropbox. Apparently continuity is actually gettig better with osx and android. I was watching youtube videos of implementaiton of android and osx/

I just started back with Apple and I feel they've done fairly well. All phones have really hit a maximum. Even Windows 10 is using design implementations from iOS and Android is using features from iPhone. Even iPhone has used features from other phones. All of them are hitting a peak, in my opinion. What do you want to see? What are you expecting? That's the real question.

Remember when iPhones couldn't even do Copy/Paste operations? Something so basic on PCs and even basic phones (like flip phones) and iOS couldn't do that? Everything's just hitting a stale state. Give it some time, things will pick up.

By the way Android... its great, but go with something that will continually get updates otherwise you're not secure at all. Google and Samsung are your best bets. Even Samsung, something high-end Samsung wise like the S8, Note 8, etc.

Personal attacks now is it? Honestly did not read past your first sentence.

I am not going to argue, the specs are not clear on the subject and after watching the keynote again I did not hear him say the process is invisible to you in low light... It makes sense that it is IR but until we see it working in a dark room the documentation is not clear on the subject.

Enjoy your new iPhone X at $999.

Invisible infrared light helps identify your face even when it’s dark.
Not sure how it can be any more clear than that.

I am having the same ecosystem problem otherwise I would have gotten a Note 8 already.

Why isn’t there a competent tablet on a android? Darn it.

Galaxy tab S3 and Asus Zenpad 3S 9.7 in are your only two modern options that have the most up to date software and still will receive updates. Avoid the Pixel C at all cost, bad hardware issues.
