This is what apple does to us

When the keynote ended I was convinced i was skipping the iphone x and getting the note 8 but after a few hours of thinking and viewing the hands on videos i was turned again.

Yes, after hearing more about how the X is compensating for it's $300 price hike over the 8, and not having TouchID... there is a value proposition there.

- All of what 8+ has in form factor close to 8
- 21 hours of battery vs 14
- All of what 8+ has in form factor close to 8
- Dual Optical Image Stabilization on front and rear camera, which Plus only has on one camera
- OLED display

The X might be worth waiting for...

Advertising was doing it's job. Yup, another potentially satisfied customer.

Yes. I was mocking most of the keynote. Adamant that I wasn't getting the iPhone X. The after sleeping on it my thinking has started to shift.

I am done with the iPhone X for 2017 though. I am not keen to pay $ on a phone after the Note 8 because it means starting over. Apple is charging too much and I do not have a disposable income for their Apple Tax.

I have used many devices, HP/Dell Windows, Apple Mac, iPhone, Acer Chromebooks, Amazon Fire Tablets, etc.

There are several draws for Apple that people seem to leave out. When it comes to price, you are getting what you pay for, in addition to a solidly polished echo system. I have heard people state "I want to be in control," when referring to Windows or Android...

I ask, in control of what? I have been there, it's just a waste of time. Yes you can get a Windows Tablet, (I got one for $25, new, from the Microsoft Store - it runs the latest Win 10 Fall Creators Update) But it's a real hassle to use. Utter rubbish. Android, you buy the device, and you're finished, no upgrades/updates. (Samsung & Pixel are better, but not much) I have a Moto X Tablet that stoped at Android 4.01, which was never much of an update.

My iPhone 5s still get's full iOS upgrades. That's the real deal there. iPad 2 went all the way to iOS 9. Sure old equipment get's slow on new software - that's a fact and it's not intentional.

Chrome OS, is as walled a garden as anything you can have on iOS. Not very many options there and most of the hardware is pretty bland, except for the high end stuff, and still same ecosystem.

Windows desktops are where things get a bit more competitive. Mac vs Windows, hardware wise, if you go for top tier hardware, you are paying the same or even more than Apple kit. Apple just markets the better side of the whole desktop industry. If I don't have to, I don't buy RAM from Apple. I buy RAM from OWC. There are things you simply don't buy from Apple. That's RAM, and cables. Everything else you are getting good hardware for a relatively decent price, and Apple's OS included.

Everybody will have different disappointments and appreciations for Apple's transition with technology. I don't see how it inconveniences me at all and I still appreciate some of the changes they made with the new iPhone X. That said, if Apple continues to meet the customer service standards and make excellent, long lasting hardware that performs. That's all I can ask for.

Not so much. Especially how aggressive Samsung is with pricing and freebies. Many aren't paying the actually $930 because of Note 7 ownership or pre-order freebies or trade in promos. The screen isn't up to the Note 8's level because it doesn't support a stylus as of now. A11 processor is crazy good, don't get me wrong. iOS also isn't on parity with the iPad version of iOS. Also, you'll need to pay $74 to get quick charging, so it's more than $70 at stake.

I am happy with the X. Although some features/specs have been around on other phones, this is the first time it will be on an iPhone so I'll definitely be upgrading. I haven't found a reason to leave the Apple ecosystem yet.

Actually depends. Some are and some somewhat are. They still have to trade in a phone that is listed. So some of those are worth what they are giving $425, and some are less., Is it really a discount? Not really for some.

I'm not done, but I'm certainly not upgrading. If before I used to upgrade every 1/2 years for the love of the technology, I will only upgrade when I really need to.

that was the mid tier model, and your phone is old, apps will take advantage of the new chip set, and will be larger, as well as recording video in 4k 60 fps.

I think you missed the point. My point was the 8 Plus is cheaper than the 6S Plus two years ago when they still offered a 64GB size, so I'm not really sure why people are complaining about the price.

No, I'm far from done, I brought the iPad Pro this year and after yesterday's keynote I will be buying the iPhone X and a new Apple Watch series 3 (to upgrade from the very first Apple Watch. Each to their own really but I find Apple products to be great and their customer service excellent.

I am, after this keynote I am officially DONE, first it was the Mac Book Pro, I wanted the no touch bar version but found out it was a little less powerful than i wanted it to be and the TouchBar was better but more expensive so I dump the whole thing and got something else. I was hoping for a Iphone 7s Plus (8) and could not believe the prices, I don't do contracts or do that rent a phone for a year program crap. Iphones don't last long due to updates or use. Its not worth it any more, I will no longer purchase Apple products and move on without them, people who want to and have the money then its fine, but for me I can't justify the price. It's a phone not a kidney

Not true but bye Felicia.

They're a company looking for profit like anyone else. If you're not satisfied, there are other options within their line up or in the competition.

This is complete FUBAR. Stop making stuff up. If you had a single device that only got a single upgrade, well, that sucks, but many Android devices other than Samsung and Google devices receive numerous updates, including LG, HTC, Huawei, One+, Sony, etc. Stop talking about things you know nothing about.

My major concern for the X is the facial recognition but I really can't think of anything else that I didn't like. No one cares for the price but it is what it is, because if it was my company I would be proud too.

I think I understand the OP rant since I was quite annoyed after the keynote yesterday.
Great products but huge prices, and Macs are even worse in my opinion.
But I'm not leaving Apple, I'm an app developer and iOS is my main platform. I don't like their price policy, but I obviously want Apple to prosper since more iPhone mean more customers to me.
I'll simply move to a 3 years cycle for my iPhone and keep my 6s, it supports AR kit so I can work with it. It doesn't support NFC reading, so I'll be forced to buy at least a 7 if I need to work on an app with NFC, but is not something I need to do immediately.
As for the Mac my mid 2012 Macbook Air will serve me for at least another year, so my mid 2011 iMac.

I may not be their average customer, but with me Apple is making less money in the long run. If they lowered the Mac's prices I'd upgrade more frequently, so pay less money but more time. That's true with the iPhone as well, iPhone upgrade program would be perfect for me but is not available in my country, so I'm going to buy less iPhones.

But I can't complain too much, they sell millions of iPhones every quarter so they're right, and they're doing the best they can to make money.
So I'm not mad at them, I'm just disappointed because I really like iPhone X and even iPhone 8, but I don't feel like spending $1400 on the X or about $1100 on a 8+.
I can afford it, but I don't really want to spend so much on a smartphone I'll want to replace in a couple of years. Macs are pricey too, but they can serve me for 6 or more years so I'm willing to pay that amount of money.

My Wife wants the S8 and I want the 8+ so will get to use both and see which I prefer.

Will the new models be in stores yet to play with/hold etc?

Hey, don't blame you one bit and I totally agree. The more biz they generate means more biz for a lot of us. People don't think about these things at launch and how many people rely on the success of technology to help pay the bills. They just complain for the sake of complaining and its annoying. I mean really, how much of any uproar would it be for Apple to say "we are discontinuing the iPhone, and go back to only selling $3k Mac's? Folks would lose their minds.

Now, if a person is that caught up into Apple to loose their crap just from being a fanboy then I'd say yea, they got issues. But, it would be devastating for someone who uses Apple products as a component. It just cracks me up how some people get all emotional about Apple products and have nothing invested in it other than the device entertaining them. Its more than that for many industries around the world. I say Apple do yo Thang!!!

I wouldn't go as far to say I'm "done with Apple", but after the event yesterday I can say for certain that I'm extremely disappointed. In my opinion, the iPhone X isn't even close to being "cutting edge". I'm unimpressed with Face ID - in fact, I don't ever want that to be the way my phone unlocks. I realize you can turn that feature off, but why drop $1000 on a phone and pay for that feature only to disable it? The notch at the top of the bezel is hideous and goes against anyone seeking a sleek look. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus really only give you wireless charging, a bit more speed, and a glass back. And if you want to use wireless charging, you have to drop more cash.

The final thing that bugs me - the thing that bugs me the MOST - is the removal of the 128GB option. Apple is decidedly cornering their consumers into spending more money. They know that most folks will choose to upgrade their storage instead of downgrade it; in turn, people spend significantly more money on the 256GB version. This is a tactic they've deployed for years, but it's never really bothered me so much until now - coincidentally, the same year they hit the $1000 mark for their flagship model of iPhone. I need more than 64GB but less than 256GB. Apple clearly doesn't care about people like me; they want the cash. It's completely aggravating.

In my opinion, I think it's time for Apple to go back to the basics. I might be doing that myself -- I'm SERIOUSLY considering a 128GB iPhone SE to replace my 128GB iPhone 7 Plus. I wanted to downsize this year, but nothing in the new lineup is overly appealing to me. I love the 4" form factor of the SE, it's got a 12MP camera, a fast-enough processor, iOS 11 and 128GB of storage. No real bells or whistles aside from Touch ID. I've been using a 5S for the past week while I attempt to sell my 7 Plus and, despite the slowness of the A7 chip, being able to one-hand my phone again feels GREAT. Lots to think about.

Not with Apple but with the iPhone for sure. Haven't had one since I got rid of my 5. My wife and daughter, however, still love iPhones. For myself, I am not going backwards and that is what I fell like I am doing getting a iPhone. I like their computers and iPads but not the phones.

I'm done buying Apple products. Apple will still sell a ton and remain profitable for a few more years. Then I will sell stock and buy other products. They're just a company focussing on maximizing profits and doing well at that but no longer doing the great things they did in the past.

Nope. Not at all. I learned my lesson the hard way, trying the competition. As long as Apple makes phones and computers I can use, I'm hanging around.

This. At least for phones, iOS is a far superior experience for me than Android, especially since I generally don't have to try to harden iOS against Apple, whereas I have to harden Android against Google since I don't like them sniffing all my data all the time.

I have a very long in the tooth Macbook Air that I should upgrade, but haven't really felt compelled to do as I have a perfectly good Windows laptop. I like having a Mac available to me but I haven't been blown away by Apple's computer offerings in the last few years, so I could certainly see being done with Apple computers.

If you don't care about privacy/data collection, if you don't care about timely updates or carrier bloatware, then Android phones probably have a lot to offer. It just doesn't do it for me. So until a new company comes along with a product that blows Apple away, I'll stick to the iPhone.

Perhaps the key here is to stop upgrading your phone every year. There are people here who are still using the 5s and are just now thinking of upgrading. That's smart. Get a phone you like and stick with it long enough that by the time you upgrade, no matter what you get will feel new and futuristic. Then hold onto for 3-4 years and by the time you upgrade that, whatever you get will again feel new and futuristic.

Not done with Apple but I’ve been done with the general Apple fan mindset of having to have their new product every year.
