You think Android is better in this department?

You can't see infrared......

Source? I was under the impression that it is not IR and an actual light. Tech specs page is not clear on the subject.

If indeed it is IR then that is a plus. The 3d scanning capabilities will likely make I more secure the current implementations. It is still slower then Touch ID and I saw no mention of off axis facial recognition meaning you will still have to hold the phone in front of your face to unlock the device. Face ID is still simply not as convenient as touch ID.
[doublepost=1505258695][/doublepost]Doesn't look like an IR illuminator but that could just be a graphical representation of what the illuminator is doing. Information on the subject is not clear to say the least.

I am, after this keynote I am officially DONE, first it was the Mac Book Pro, I wanted the no touch bar version but found out it was a little less powerful than i wanted it to be and the TouchBar was better but more expensive so I dump the whole thing and got something else. I was hoping for a Iphone 7s Plus (8) and could not believe the prices, I don't do contracts or do that rent a phone for a year program crap. Iphones don't last long due to updates or use. Its not worth it any more, I will no longer purchase Apple products and move on without them, people who want to and have the money then its fine, but for me I can't justify the price. It's a phone not a kidney

I can feel you pain. My problem is with a house full of Apple products and a wife who is reluctant to learn how to navigate Windows, I am kind of stuck. I guess I could separate our devices into his and hers, but still I'd be the tech support guy, and when she sees how great apps like Photoshop work on a PC she'd be looking over my shoulder.

Maybe she would come around when she sees I can build a powerhouse PC that is twice as fast for half the price.

Either way, I kind of agree, Apple is nothing special anymore. Sorry guys and girls, I know you don't want to hear it.

If you do the "rent a phone for a year program crap" then you're paying half the price, assuming you upgrade every year. Not sure how that's a bad thing if you're going to upgrade your phone every year anyway. The iPhone X essentially costs $500 through this program.

Endless circle of payments. You are their fantasy customer.

Wasn't upgrading this year anyways, so I'm fine, I think the notch on the X is weird looking.

I switched full time to Apple products back in 2014, will never go back to Android or a PC.

I am tired of the trend of constantly having the company pull money from your pocket. First with software subscriptions and now with hardware. I will never use one of the carrier installment plans or even Apple's iPhone upgrade program.

Yep, I am done. 3 years late on features they say they innovated......Samsung has had them for a long time. My Note 8 I have now after my iPhone 7 plus is awesome.
What's cool is you can transfer stuff from samsung note 8 to os x and vise versa.

Moved on a week ago to S8 plus. I would like to move from my iPad as well after using this screen.

Not until a Windows computer company is able to build a laptop line up as reliable, well crafted and simple as Apple :)

I'm not done with apple. But I dislike many new X features like the ears and faceID. They have very clearly sacrificed a lot of their guiding principles to look cutting edge with the edge to edge display. The funny thing is that is isn't even truly edge to edge, and lacks the presence that the display on the s8 has with the curved sides.

The ears are plain stupid. They are the most un-Apple like thing I have ever seen. And I can't believe it made it to the final product.

That said, I won't pretend like I'm not stuck in apples ecosystem. And I will likely upgrade to the X just to be on the newest phone. I still think they made design faux pas, but what can I do at this point as a loyalist? Just hope the next model brings back Touch ID under the glass and loses the ears.

See ya, I hear Nokia 5190 is on sale on Ebay. Might want to get one of those. I also saw a $20 phone at Walmart, may want to check that out.

My 64gb 6S Plus cost $850, a 64gb 8 Plus is $800. Am I missing something?

that was the mid tier model, and your phone is old, apps will take advantage of the new chip set, and will be larger, as well as recording video in 4k 60 fps.

For $70 more... a huge performance increase, the screen, and iOS make it worth it. No?

It's £130 more here and if we wanted 256GB you are looking at £280 more for the iPhone x over the note 8 which is nuts

That said I will likely get the iPhone x if I don't get the note 8 soon lol

Have to wait it out and see the contract prices on EE and compare

What were you expecting... seems like $699 for the iPhone8 and $799 for the 8 plus is about right. For example the competitor you may be looking at could be Samsung S8 at $724US or the Note at $930US.

We understand and will welcome you back in 6 months with open arms. Seems about the average length of time before the separation anxiety completely kicks in for my friends.

The best way to handle it seems to completely hate Apple. Then others can at least understand why you prefer substandard products for a premium price.

I for one am not leaving, the eco system to important to me.

With that said, I am not going to say the phones aren't overpriced, I would like to see them a lot cheaper. Truth is these are not devices that need to be upgraded yearly or even always have payments on. Most of us here were spoiled by carrier subsidies and/or prices that have allowed us to do the annual upgrade, when in fact Apple has made the phones with the intention of them lasting (and supporting them) longer than just a year. The 6s is still an option if your looking for a cheaper option (and don't already own that or newer model). Apple would not be selling the 6s if they would not be planning on supporting it for several years to come. They make too big of a deal about the number of phones on the latest iOS, so it's not like buying a 6s or a 7 now will mean it will not be able to stay relevant and upgradable for next few years.

I have not skipped an iPhone, and most likely will buy one this yr as well, but at these prices and the quality of Apple products I may have to start keeping phones longer than a year. Just because we can't have every shiny new toy, and may have to skip a generation or two knowing what we have will actually be good for years to come is not reason enough to leave an amazing ecosystem of products and services along with all the apps I've already invested money on. However, if having to skip a model is enough to drive you away, it is your choice. I don't see the overall value in doing so.

I don't leave a product line or company because of what they don't do. I leave FOR another product line or company because of what they do.

Currently there is nothing out I prefer over the Apple products I own.

This is probably one of the best posts of the day. Well said! While I'm underwhelmed by today's announcements, I'm perfectly happy with my other Apple Devices and the ecosystem, and not going to bolt from that just to satisfy my "desire to upgrade to something new and shiny". What I have is still the best for me and for my money. My wallet will open for something that is impressive and provides value too. Apple didn't do that today, but neither has any other cell manufacturer. So, my wallet stays close, and I still stay happy with my existing apple equipment (and I have a LOT).

I am getting closer and closer to being done with Apple. I will ride out my 6s+ as long as I can and then will look elsewhere. They raise prices and then don't give the consumers the best option for space. The best option is 128gB. Yet they only offer 64 or you pay extra for 256 gB.

They have us by the balls and I am officially fed up with it. Samsung has better displays and the same features for much less.

I'm done with new iPhones is all. Reasons for why can be found in many of my posts here so I won't risk being pummeled or moderated by mentioning those reasons again.

But I'm still going to use my PowerPC Macs, my iPhone 4s, my iPhone 5, my iPad Air 2 and for the time being my 6s+.

Upgrading to a different phone in the new year though.

Same thing, I no longer want latest and the greatest. Just an upgrade every 2 years, pay a full price and upgrade which is this year this time for an 8.
